I studied Agric Econs for my 1st degree, then I sat for JAMB UTME in final year and now I'm in 200L. I've never regretted my decision for a single day..In some countries , you must have a degree before going to Medical school..It's Medicine or nothing for me, that was my mantra.

That's because Medicine in Countries like the USA is equivalent to professional doctorates. Same as Law you do a Juris Doctor Degree. SO in those countries you don't go to spend 6 years after your first degree or pre-med course

That's because it's an MD (Doctor of Medicine) a professional doctorate just like law JD(Juris Doctor). Good to research in full before giving out information

When I entered University newly, one of the guys that took us chemistry tutorials went back to study medicine.

He was already in 400 level biochemistry, and top of his class.

I never considered going for Medicine after 1st degree due to many factors; one is sponsorship as I'm the one sponsoring my Masters.
Another one is pursuing MBBS after degree in Nigeria doesn't just worth it; in Nigeria.

If I have opportunity to go abroad, I'm taking my career further in Microbiology.

Yeah! I read Public Administration as my first degree. And I'm now studying Law. At least I'm planning for my retirement. Believe me Law profession is worthwhile in old age.

Dear if you really have strong passion for medicine,I advise you to pursue it if you have sponsors.I studied biological science and got second class upper,served and hustled with it for 2 years but I was not feeling fulfilled and my passion to be a doctor was so intense.I have to pursue that dream and travel to Ukraine in my late 20s to start medicine from year 1 and graduated in my mid 30s to God's glory. Currently I am into residency program and feeling fulfilled. You are still young and can pursue your dream.I bet you ,you will not regret it!

Well, my own acquiring of two degree was quite different. My parent allowed me to follow my passion by studying business administration. I didn't pass too well, cos I came out with 3rd class. This made my dad insist I go back to study banking and finance, 3years after my first degree. All these I did before 28yrs old. I finished my first degree at age 21.

I didn't re-write jamb or waec. I went to one of these private schools that offered me direct entry to 300L. I finished the program in exactly 2years

I actually did after my first Bachelors in Nigeria.I had to after moving outside the country, I had to research courses that align with the country’s needs and high demand. Computer science did the magic and I haven’t had any regrets with the years spent in college. Initially I had friends that laughed at me but today they are envious of my progress within a short period of time.My advice to those moving to the US or Canada, I don’t know much about other countries, is that they should research and go for courses that are in high demand in their respective countries. I have friends that came to the US to study international business. Today many of them are depressed and one has even resorted to yahoo out of frustration.

I spent 4yrs in uniben studying nursing that made him happy...
Long story short, after graduation I secured a job which I was paid 25k monthly BUT while I'm sex school I was very good in Maths, further maths & physics. I was able to save some money and I put in for poly-JAMB after successful 2 yrs of studying I obtained a National Diploma in Elect Elect Eng.(distinction) that made me to join a reputable oil producing company...Soon after joining I went straight for HND, I made Upper Credit by God's grave I'm a master degree holder and very happy with what I do.


In conclusion bro, pursue your dream.

My wife graduated with a degree in computer science. She barely made a 2.2. She went back for BSN (Nursing) and just finished with a perfect GPA, all As in 140 credits, about 52 courses.
Forget the grades, I just shared that for more details; and you can see how transformative passion can be. If what propels you is external you see challenges, but if you are intrinsically driven and passionate about something, you see opportunities. You are young and it’s worth the time.

If that's what you desire. It's very possible with less difficulties than you think.

I myself, I graduated from UNN (Bsc Plant Sc and Biotech).
I went for youth service and that same year took the bold step as well.
I even have to write WAEC again sef bc I had 2 results which is not acceptable in medicine.....
To cut the story short, I passed through all the hurdles and currently in the department of Medicine and Surgery, ESUT College Of medicine.
Attimes, delays in doing things reduces the passion for it. Get up and move now, stop wishing. With determination, you are closer to ur dreams than you think.

What is fueling your passion is important in this case, and likewise how brilliant u r too is important, cos jamb and post utme requirement for medicine is somehow competitively high, do u have the fund to pursue this course, are u considering private institution or public? Add 8 years or 9 years to ur age by then, well its better at that age. What i will tell u is pray pray and pray. See, me too dey pursue medicine like my whole life depends on it, i did jamb like 5 times and until i prayed and i was lead to choose engineering in a university, gbam i got admission then and finished well, Gods way might not be our way sometimes, all we need most time is to surrender, but if u have a burning passion telling u to go for somethings , no 1, it might be God telling you u that ur current position is not wha he wants for u but due to ur impatience u accepted ur current degree, then. No 2. it might be another time wasting strategy of the evil one. just pray about it. God will guide u

My story

I am a graduate of Biochem (grad 2017). My dad's friend influence his decision to choose Biochemistry as course for me. I don't like a bit about the course but who am I to say no? I graduate with 3rd class. Now I have picked a Jamb form to study Geology n Mining, I damn love this course.

I am set to pursue my passion. May God help me.

Why Jamb again? Just go through DE. Abeg it's worth it if it's medicine you wan go for. You go finish and within few years you'll catch up with most of your mates that finished that chemistry course.

Bros, forget timing and go for what will make you happy. Are you so concerned about time that you are willing to live in regrets all the days of your life, time is there to make us do things quick not to cast our happiness aside. I am in a state of dilemma now. Choosing between going for masters and pursuing my passion of studying medicine is quite difficult for me.

I studied chemistry Education, graduated well, served and I'm now teaching. I am barely two years into the profession and I am already tired of it. I feel I deserve a career not just a work. A career in medicine for me is something that I belive will make me happy. it's something I can do even if I'm not paid for....I'm 25 years and I feel I have no time again.

I hope to go pick up a JAMB form this week to pursue my passion and happiness. I will not want to make any mistake here. So I believe hearing from people who have been in this shoe will guide me.

There’s actually no limit to what you can achieve. Had my first degree in banking and finance (first class) wasn’t satisfied, I’ve gone back for another degree which is obviously my passion and I’m 3years into it already. So you see if it’s your passion then go for it. You’re still pretty much young. There are some of my classmates in sec school that are still writing jamb till date. So you see it’s not really late until you accept it is

Hello @spark2 great to hear that you want to pursue a 2nd degree. Well I am currently doing a 2nd degree in Medicine and am in my final year(shoulda graduated buh COVID) . I read Microbiology and tried Direct entry 3times right from my final year of my first degree. Got rejected 2times buh God made a way the 3rd time. If you want to study medicine for a 2nd degree go for it. I remember when I was doing my Youth Service, my fellow Corp members in my PPA made jest of me to my face, buh I have not finished medical school and yet they call me to ask for medical advice. What of in my family, every family member extended and nuclear family wants to associate because i had an opportunity to go work abroad even as a student doctor. I was 25 when I got in then now am 31. Don’t be discouraged. That brain of yours can save 2000lives.Pick up that Direct entry form or Jamb form and go for it with prayer. Mind you some of my Colleagues in final year are Masters Degree holders who did Direct entry too. Don’t let negativity deter you. Go for it.

I agree with the term " FOLLOW" your passion and heart in achieving and fulfilling your dreams .... Surely you should but I must remind you that studying "MEDICINE" as a course in Nigerian Universities is not as easy as it sounds.... Especially if you are a lone ranger...
Most students who study this course are either sponsored by their religious organizations, societal clubs , family members , villagers, rich men etc which made the course easy: in return your favours will be required ....

I will like to suggest that you should save enough financially as you embark on the medicine journey because you might not have some spare time for side hustle which leads to frustration, succidal thoughts and withdrawal from study .... Lest you forget with your age blinking in your face ....
In summary it is a great choice , as per it saves Humanity .

Please follow your dreams and don't be discouraged, as long as it's your passion..I graduated and served over 10years ago , did Bsc computer science during my first degree , got a job immediately after serving within the health sector , I grew passion to study medical Radiography and I went for it. I have a year left to get the degree now plus am already in my late 30s, married n got kids� but I don't mind, all I want is to succeed..

I too graduate from chemistry and I just got into medical school, I still have some month in my service year but no regret whatsoever. I choose having a fulfilled life cus there's only one life to live
