Maybe he meant "only a fool goes to work when he's sick" (forgive my pidgin, lol). The thing is, Nigerians abuse the system and call it being smart. An employee has a certain number of sick days in a year. Asides from actually being sick, he can use these days for stuff like doctor's appointments as well (vaccination and stuff like that). In fact, it's okey to take some of your sick days if you're just feeling down or moody. What is not cool is taking such days for Friday fun. What will then happen when you eventually need them? Your salary will start getting prorated of course.

People just need to be careful with what they post on social media. I still remember when I got my present job after scaling through several interviews, I became friends with the HR Manager and she informed me they searched for my social media accounts ( LinkedIn, twitter, facebook) and checked most of my posts before inviting me for the final interview. This was way back in 2012.

Just be careful what you post on social media.

I remember for Yankee, na after 3 days, you gatz bring doctor's note. But no go think say you can do it every week or every month. I no officially work, so na from 2nd hand experience I dey talk, as in from people wey dey work. Europe get the best working system in terms of workers care, maybe not pay, but care.

Life na balance until bending corner reach, so this is a case by case situation.
