blasterman: Do you know what examples stands for? Did you read through the lines I did advise him on his career pad? Shallow minds yapa for here that’s why I rarely comment or quote in this forum since it’s a norm in nairaland that if you wish to quote someone it has to start with insult. My only words to you is go back and ask your friend to tell you the truth. |

I'm quite surprised at a lot of the comments I see here. Not all Nigerians in the UK do menial jobs you know. There is very good prospect in IT and shortage of highly skilled professionals in this field. If you know your stuff, network with the right people and gather some good professional qualifications, the sky is the limit for you, especially in London. I have never done any menial job since over 10 years I that I moved to the UK and most of the people I know are working professionals like myself. Even if you do menial jobs for the first year or so when you're still a student, it's mostly because of the work restriction, only 20 hours. A lot of people end up in professional jobs after graduating. Please tell your friend not to come to the UK with that mindset that he will end up with a menial job. You can succeed and have a good career. Speaking from personal experience and trust me, there are MANY Nigerians are doing very well here. 2 Likes |

ibedun:Mumu check my bio before you come on here and display your foolishness ... I'm sure your family has realized it wasted money on your education but you don't need to expose it to everyone. If you don't have facts to counter my arguments please shut up... I blame Netflix for letting people like you think they understand how things work in the Civilized world. Some concepts will remain strange to you till you leave that jungle. |
Good dey guys..... I was discussing with a friend of mine. He wants to move out of the country(uk) but his parents are trying to cajole him to stay ( he’s from a well to do family and they are financially capable) His plan is after nysc he would go for masters and find his way. He is 21 and currently serving (he’s field is IT) But the issue is that his parent are trying to fine tune his head to stay (he’s the last born) Their excuse is that 1) you would do menial jobs there 2) there is nothing there 3) even if you get a good job there, it’s difficult to rise as a black man 4) you will be lonely Their main bone of contention is that there is nothing there. Note: his dad and 4 other siblings out of 5 studied in the uk tho. My friend doesn’t even want to stay atall, most of his friend are in the uk, he doesn’t have friends in Nigeria except a few. He doesn’t like going out because he said his mind is not in Nigeria. If you see him ehn you will know that he’s depressed. All he wants is to move to the uk. He’s not even a badboy he doesn’t smoke, drink He’s not a womanizer (2 of his siblings have been in the UK SINCE early 2000’s and are already citizens) The dad also isn’t saying he should not go, but after service, he should get a job first probably with Goverment (due to job security because his dad retired with the government) then work 2-3 years before going for his master. His point his that he wants to go now that the funds and everything is intact. What if something should happen in future nko? My advice for him his to leave immediately after service after all he has siblings who are in their early 40’s there to put him through and also a lot of family friends there What would you advice Hmm I guess he's the only child with his parent for now that's why they don't want him to go so they won't be lonely, as for me o since his mind is not in Nigeria again he should go to avoid had I know issue and try and look for someone to be with his parent like someone in his family around 15years of age to avoid issues or little maid to be with them so they won't be lonely. |

SmartyPants: Let me address your first point, you said i can play game and all that. The question is where and how? You mean someone should go out there in that terrible cold weather to play football or drink! Who ll play football/drink in that horrible weather except professional footballers who have no choice than to do what they had already signed for. The weather is too bad for anyone from Africa-Nigeria to enjoy anything outdoors in UK. You ll need to wear about 3 clothes with big heavy jacket just to eat out but in Nigeria all you need is your shirt. Parking and congestion charge are another problems one must take into account before venturing out I don’t know if you have lived in a white dominated area before like Bromley South, you ll realise that no matter how low your Hifi stereo is, these bastards ll still find something to say. Even my mum was shocked when she came around and heard them complaining about my stereo. Guess what! My mum couldn’t even ear the sound in the bedroom but my next door neighbours came to knock on my door to inform me about how the stereo was disturbing her life 1 Like |

Mrnairalandd: Again, it comes down to your personal preferences. The weather might be an issue for some but me I enjoyed it plus inside the house was well-heated so no need for wearing layers of clothing. I also played football throughout, with county league teams. In winter the only time we didn't play was when the pitch was water logged. Yes, it could be uncomfortable and if you don't wear gloves your fingers will ache when you get in, but it was still fun for me. Parking can't be your issue when England has such an efficient public transport system. Besides this is you complaining about the cost of social life, not that there is none. So if you can afford it, England does have a great social scene. I lived in Bradford and our home was detached so no reason for neighbors to come complaining. |
A cleaner doing a full time job in UK is paid better than a Director in Federal Civil Service. But if his reasons for leaving Nigeria is because all his friends are in UK then it’s not a good one. On the aspect of being lonely might be true depending on the part of UK he’s planning to stay. (But don’t forget white babes the rush Nigerians o, lol). For there’s nothing special in UK might also be true but don’t forget that nothing too special is in Nigeria too. At least, you will see usefulness of being a human in UK. For career wise, as an IT personnel that guy will get a better Job that will pay him nothing less than £60k p|a all he has to do is doing a little upgrade courses here. Finally even if he ends up as an Care Assistant, at the end of every month, he goes home with nothing less than a million naira after Tax and 500k savings after monthly expenses. So, how many Jobs in Nigeria can guarantee you that? [/quote Your comment is the most reasonable here. |

Do you know how much they pay IT (CS) engineer in the U.S.A? Your friend is one of the highly sought out for in the world. If he gets a job he in that field from even an average company, trust me he will be making atleast $4,000 dollars daily. Your friends should disappear ooo. That's my advice. |

Let him move to where ever his heart desires, happiness brings success, as long as he isn't happy here in Nigeria he will not be successful, only if his mindset changes, U. K isn't easy yes but it is far more better than Nigeria where no one has peace of mind, so much fear and uncertainty, if one move to U. K don't expect to make it big within 3-4 years, consistency, focus and hard work matters wherever one finds himself. Let him go to U. K and I wish him all the best. Medical doctors Nurses have a high demand for job with wonderful salary, if you have money to fund tuition fees then carry on. |

If you are suffering ask for help. We are talking job benefits you are here thinking of leeching off the system... What kind of yeye gig are you doing that doesn't offer health insurance , education reimbursements , stock options and 401k or pension after 90 days for starters? If God forbid you start as a cleaner after 10 or however many years you remain a cleaner the problem is not the system its YOU. School don close abi? Your mates wey dey live well no go find wetin dem dey read or do to improve themselves stay on the internet spewing insults .. Las las you'll end up doing wire wire in your old age.. Ekuke like you. Oh and list where youve travelled to shebi na you dey here forming know it all.. |
