Mayng01:so what is the IGP suggestions for better security? no single suggestion, rather we should remain in this police status that has refuse to work for almost 60years now Atleast, we have use the federal police for close to 60years now, let us give state policing a try and see the difference, we cant keep doing sth one way and expect a different result, The truth is that the north is afraid because they constitute over 90% of the police force, hence their various states cannot absorb their police force personnel when we adopt the state policing policy, This clarify the PEST mantra of the north FRAUD COUNTRY 3 Likes 1 Share |

That is true.. Those state police would eventually turn to state anarchists. In a particular state in the north who doesn't support #ENDSARS used a certain state agency/paramilitary against peaceful protesters which result to lost of lifes and properties. |

What is wrong with these people. Stick to your job and leave that for people and their representatives. Same way attorney was talking off point the other day. What is happening. Anyway, am not surprised, confusion is part of Elohim's plague on Pharaohs. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Albert Einstein is reported to have said 'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result' The current system of policing has shown itself to be totally defective. We are operating a Federal system of govt and as such the states and LG's are supposed to be fully autonomous. The idea of one centralized police force in such a structure is aboharant. We need state police and even LG constabularies. There will still be a role for a 'Federal Police' which will be similar to the US FBI dealing with inter state crime and backing up the state police forces. 1 Like |

spacechuks: The northerners just say No to everything. No to restructure, No to state police, No to ending quota system. It's like they are happy with the current mess of a country and just want to maintain the status quo. Just as was done with the Asaba declaration, the South needs to keep speaking with once voice. As long as we do that, we can move things forward in this country. Unity is strength. 1 Like |

PissfulProtester:If truly we want to move forward as one nation then state police is inevitable. What the IGP was saying goes to show his IQ level. State police will be independent both in funding and administration, it will have a National Police Council drawn equally from all the states that will oversee it's functions and also deal with petitions against it, the trainings will still be done at national police colleges, the only difference with what we have now is that the entire workforce has to be from the state or the geo political zone. Crime is local, policing also has to be local. Anybody that is against state police is directly calling for the disintegration of Nigeria. This is 2021 not 1981, we have all surpassed our elastic limit. Things must surely change. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Nigerian police! Are you guys not an instrument in the hands of Nigerian politicians to oppress opposition? Who are you fooling? Suddenly they are concerned about opposition politicians? I'm not in support of the state police but this reasoning by Nigerian police is daft at best. The IGP is only concerned that the powers at the central level will be diluted and it will be bad for 'business'. |

Crownbefitsme: Nigerian is gone. Over to southern governors to propose for dissolution of nigeria into two and send same to UN,USA and UK but this should be the last option . The open grazing ban should be addressed by the state house of assemblies and thereafter a letter should be written to NASS AND FG demanding for restructuring and national dialogue . If these dont take place, the southerns and some middlebelters should organize a peaceful protest across the two regions for 5 days with international media coverage ,requesting for annulment of 1914 and a referendum. It's achievable and Nnamdi Kanu should be warned not to interfer with the protest or we banish him from southern nigeria. |

Crownbefitsme:Northern Nigeria will always be plagued by illiteracy. Ordinary IGP has the guys to berate governors who are represented by their people. Even if their call is suspicious, it is legitimate and it's not within the purview of a policeman to make comments I political matters while in active service. |

PissfulProtester:There are two sides to this. It's true that most governor's will misuse the opportunity but the current structures is not effective in crime fighting. It still then goes back to our mentality as a people who can't use public instrument for good. 1 Like 1 Share |

PissfulProtester: state police is the way to go finito.A smaller federal police with overiding authority will serve as control-its not as if most states in Nigeria doesn't have local vigilantes already, but giving them constitutional power will help them be more effective and better trained. Is the federal government already not using the police and military to fight it's opponents? Most peeps against this are those who have continually enriched themselves through the imbalance in this country and who refuse to restructuring this country 1 Like |

Civilized countries that have the State police also have fears that there will be abuse in their utilization. That is with these countries have implemented checks and balances to ensure the state police is not abused. In Brazil there is state and local police and then a Federal police that steps in when there is abuse or compromise of policing at the local level. In America there is state police that is independent. The FBI wades in when there is abuse or compromise of policing at the state or local level. How can the IGP of Nigeria just dismiss state policing in Nigeria without conducting any studies or even pilot adoption. Its irresponsible! The central police is not working becaise everything ckmes from Abuja! A police man that wants to fuel his van in Adamawa has to wait for funds from Abuja! Its a mess!!! Police barracks nationwide are death traps because everyone is waiting for money from Abuja! Its not working! Instead of the IGP to advise on another system that works, he is ignorantly and dogmatically dismissing the state policing model that has worked well in other countries. Makes you wonder if these guys are deliberately rooting for insecurity in Nigeria or are just grossly and overwhelmingly incompetent! 1 Like |

Nnannapat:Your idea makes sense but the model is faulty. We want to break the Central policing system in Nigeria because of the bureaucracy involved. If we adopt your model we will be replacing one bureaucracy with another. Everything would still have to be routed through Abuja with your model. If we have state police, states would be able to budget for their unique policing needs. Nobody waits for apprival from Abuja to do anything. BTW, we already have an Police Service Commission that is similar to your National Police Council and its as dead as the police force itself. |

However, if you are from south you won't even care and you would always do the bidding of those in abuja. |
