Which year of corolla did u buy for 2.2m in 2017?

Secondly, u have to drive ur Volvo for minimum 1yr on ehailing before u can really compare it with the Corolla and Civic that u already have a first hand experience with.
Until then, it may be erroneous/misleading to paint a picture of the Volvo S40 being good enough or better than corolla/civic.

Still wondering why u sold an 04 civic without issues for 530k in this 2021. Full disclosure please. Or did u do give away?

Corolla was 06... I've stated it here before.
I bought the civic for 450k and sold it after a year for 530.
I bought it NAIJA USED and sold it after a year of e-hailing
How much is the general going rate for a naija used 04 civic is a question you should ponder on.
How much would have been a fair price for you?

My thoughts on the Volvo being a superior car to the corolla is obvious. Their apec sheets tell the performance story. The corolla uses a 1.8ltr i4 engine producing 120 horsepower the Volvo uses a 2.4ltr 5cyl engine producing 168 horsepower. List of amenities on the Volvo can't be compared to the corolla, it smashes it. Appearance nko. All the corolla has going is fuel efficiency and honestly, I don't mind.

How's that for disclosure?

I generally like to read comments here to amuse myself.
I'll drop this here for people who can think.
For context, I started e-hailing with a corolla, moved to a Civic 04 (dru23) and now I use a Volvo S40.
In my opinion, the corolla is not worth the hype and the hassle. There's more to a car than fuel efficiency and I must say that the corolla is not exactly fantastic in this regard especially when you contrast it against the sacrifice of performance and comfort that you're making.
In April 2017 my corolla was bought for 2.2m and sold last year for 1.230, that's a hit of 950k. In those 3 years, I changed the hub and suspension assembly, AC components, then it had a brain box issue later NO engine/Transmission issues.
April Last year I got a used civic 04 for 450k, spent about 1m on it for the 1 year I had it. Oven bake, suspension assembly, AC, electrical ish and regular maintenance inclusive. I sold it last week for 530 without issues. So give or take a 1m hit.
Got my S40 for 1.7. CLEAN civic EX trim was priced at 1.9 (that's the least I saw) Corolla, lol, we know how far so no need.
While the S40 is not giving me the fuel efficiency of the civic or the corolla, performance and comfort is millions of miles ahead of the Japanese. My S40 is FULL OPTIONS, leather, power everything, parking sensors EVERYTHING and it moves like a dream. Add the humbling it gives riders when I pull up and they enter inside. Since I got it, no rider don talk rudely to me lol.
Now the numbers. While the S40 is not doing the fuel economy of the corolla, it is 800k less to buy today. For clarity, my corolla was doing 1ltr per 10km, S40 is doing 1.15 per 10km. So that's Ask yourself, how long will it take me to spend that extra 800k on petrol?
The parts of the S40 I HEAR are cheaper than the Corolla, I say I HEAR because I have not had to change anything yet. I know for sure that engine and transmission are much cheaper than the Corolla sha. So where exactly is the economy?
The 2nd hand value myth, I have debunked several times here. Mind you, the figures for the Corolla was only purchase price. In those three years about 700k was spent on maintenance. Add that to 2.2 then subtract the price it was sold for. I didn't talk much about the civic because its own parts are much much cheaper than the Corolla parts, imagine changing complete hub assembly (hub, brake discs, brake pads, ball joints) for 16k. Compressor was 15k. Parts were cheap And they lasted till I sold the car.

I primarily felt the need to post this because I adviced someone who had saved up 1.4 but was looking for a loan to add so he could get a toks corolla. I told him to take that money and buy a toks civic 04 or 05. He said na corolla or nothing, as he no see toks money, he bought a naija used and now he has his mechanic on speed dial.

There's nothing in this business like driving your own car. If you have saved up something go and get a used civic, BE SURE to do your due diligence before buying, but I will tell you categorically that your risk exposure is less with the civic. You will make the same amount of money but you'll spend less.

Sometimes driving your own car is not always what is crack up to be .... My advice is to learn to drive for others by getting the experience .. If you can maintain a rental car than it is a good start.....

People don't realize the expenses that comes with this job .. The maintenance and looking for good mechanics that know their onions.. The downtime that you will face.. A single repair can eat up all your profits in two weeks in 1 day .. Or even bankrupt you

And if you are driving for yourself and you don't have the discipline and experience to manage all these challenges you will end up broke up. Driving for yourself is an advantage but it is not an automatic win. You need discipline.......

I know a driver on rental that thought he knew it all . He got his own car and drove for God knows how long . And back on rental again switching from 1 model car to another.. Now back to his own car .....so it takes experience and discipline to drive on ur own.......

@dru 23,
I agree with you on that discipline part, also getting to know mechanics that know their onions, n not d kazeems that r ready to rip you off.

Seriously, one should pray that the car keeps behaving and shouldn't develop issues beyond one's budget. It's not easy to maintain cars o.

What about looking for good quality parts . That alone can frustrate somebody to the max .......so in these business you are getting screw in different ways by mechanics and by part dealers... When I tell people the need to maintain their cars and buy quality parts etc .. They will say I want sell market etc .....

Now 1 of personal cars needs shocks and tires .. I have bought Tokunbo shocks in ladipo .. The shocks went bad again after few weeks. Now I Will be shipping brand new shocks and tires . The tire part is even crazy . I spend 54k naira on 1 tire the tire only lasted for two weeks ........The brand new tires I got in Yankee will cost $300 ..... Which is fine and I know in the next two years or so I won't have tire or shocks problems.....

It is the parts seller making big money and while the customers are at the lossing end .. If you think am the same amount used to buy these parts over and over again could have save enough money to buy brand new

The Corolla:
In 2017, a 2006 Corolla went for between 1.5m to 1.8m max for the highest grades. So pardon me, I am Just surprised u bought yours 2.2m.

The Civic:
For a car to be fit for ehailing, I suppose it is still in good condition; engine, transmission, ac, interior, body and other functionalities...if so then N530k is quite cheap for a buy and drive 04 civic, considering how much cars go for nawadays. Hence I asked for full disclosure. grin

The Volvo:
Like I said, drive the car for 1yr on ehailing then u do review. Ruggedity and receptivity to stress, quality and durability of parts, cost and frequency of change, ease of problem solving etc...so far what u know is purchasing cost and fuel consumption...

In this business, I think cost of startup is less important than cost of running/maintainance, let's not even talk about second hand value and ease of liquidation. However, we have to consider all 3 factors before establishing which car is best for the job.

I have learnt my lessons, buying brand new tires for this job isn't worth it. Because anything can happen to the tire and that's it. Money is gone just like that, I traveled to ikorodu through the epe axis after driving on that bad road I noticed car have started wobbling.
Got to alignment and tire was racked, that's how I lost the tire

There's a thread Currently on front page of a guy in-between working as a bank teller or as a bolt driver.

I'm not a fan of bank Jobs, and I won't say bolt is the best either. My problem now is the useless clowns posting earnings on the thread to encourage the guy who already thinks he can make the bank monthly salary in 6 days by driving with bolt.

One even posted December earnings to prove a point. I know you're in this thread but since they don't allow posting of earnings here anymore you decided to show your stupidity outside. I believe you should be a fleet manager by now with that earning.

Telling people they can make 80k weekly and 50k on special festive days is just all shades of wickedness if you ask me.

I addressed all 3 factors you pointed out.
Cost of startup is integral cos that to a large extent influences your break-even point. If I enter at a lower price point than you with marginally higher operating cost, I will most likely break even before you.
For perspective, it will take me 160 days of buying petrol of 5k daily to spend 800k on petrol.
Parts of the S40 as far as I know are at par or cheaper than the Corolla.
Plus build quality of both cars cannot be compared at all. Superior build quality usually translates to better durability.
So make of these what you will. Good thing you know how much a corolla costs and I've shown proof of mine.

All these lazy drivers grin ... He has given u proof and u r calling him useless, clown and stupid. Smhfu.
What is really the problem when people say they earn well in ehailing with proof to show...I still don't get. Is it bad belle, jealousy, resentment, envy of someone's achievement or disapproval, anger, hatred that the person is exposing a secret? I want to understand.
I can relate if you say it is misleading, because he is showing earnings and not profits but any reasonable person who wants to venture into any business must find out 360° what it will cost and the expenses involved before he dives in. So when u see earnings, do ur maths and find out what the profit is, other resources u may need and the work it will require to make that amount.
I don't see any difference with fx/crypto traders who say they make $10k every month. They don't tell u d gamut of software subscriptions, paid trainings, number of screen time, books and CDs they invest in to make that amount of money.
So please let's stop this attack on show of success, as far as d claim is not false.
