I generally like to read comments here to amuse myself.
I'll drop this here for people who can think.
For context, I started e-hailing with a corolla, moved to a Civic 04 (dru23) and now I use a Volvo S40.
In my opinion, the corolla is not worth the hype and the hassle. There's more to a car than fuel efficiency and I must say that the corolla is not exactly fantastic in this regard especially when you contrast it against the sacrifice of performance and comfort that you're making.
In April 2017 my corolla was bought for 2.2m and sold last year for 1.230, that's a hit of 950k. In those 3 years, I changed the hub and suspension assembly, AC components, then it had a brain box issue later NO engine/Transmission issues.
April Last year I got a used civic 04 for 450k, spent about 1m on it for the 1 year I had it. Oven bake, suspension assembly, AC, electrical ish and regular maintenance inclusive. I sold it last week for 530 without issues. So give or take a 1m hit.
Got my S40 for 1.7. CLEAN civic EX trim was priced at 1.9 (that's the least I saw) Corolla, lol, we know how far so no need.
While the S40 is not giving me the fuel efficiency of the civic or the corolla, performance and comfort is millions of miles ahead of the Japanese. My S40 is FULL OPTIONS, leather, power everything, parking sensors EVERYTHING and it moves like a dream. Add the humbling it gives riders when I pull up and they enter inside. Since I got it, no rider don talk rudely to me lol.
Now the numbers. While the S40 is not doing the fuel economy of the corolla, it is 800k less to buy today. For clarity, my corolla was doing 1ltr per 10km, S40 is doing 1.15 per 10km. So that's Ask yourself, how long will it take me to spend that extra 800k on petrol?
The parts of the S40 I HEAR are cheaper than the Corolla, I say I HEAR because I have not had to change anything yet. I know for sure that engine and transmission are much cheaper than the Corolla sha. So where exactly is the economy?
The 2nd hand value myth, I have debunked several times here. Mind you, the figures for the Corolla was only purchase price. In those three years about 700k was spent on maintenance. Add that to 2.2 then subtract the price it was sold for. I didn't talk much about the civic because its own parts are much much cheaper than the Corolla parts, imagine changing complete hub assembly (hub, brake discs, brake pads, ball joints) for 16k. Compressor was 15k. Parts were cheap And they lasted till I sold the car.

I primarily felt the need to post this because I adviced someone who had saved up 1.4 but was looking for a loan to add so he could get a toks corolla. I told him to take that money and buy a toks civic 04 or 05. He said na corolla or nothing, as he no see toks money, he bought a naija used and now he has his mechanic on speed dial.

There's nothing in this business like driving your own car. If you have saved up something go and get a used civic, BE SURE to do your due diligence before buying, but I will tell you categorically that your risk exposure is less with the civic. You will make the same amount of money but you'll spend less.
I have said this over and over again. Learn to think outside the box. Like 2 months ago, my hub started making that stupid noise, I changed the whole assembly except ball joint for 5k. Yes, you heard me right. My car engine(borale), thats engine without gear and other accessories cost less than 100k. My AC compressor is 20k. I got the car 9ja used for 800k. I 've used it for a year without any serious repairs done just normal wear and tear. Fuel consumption is at per with corolla, ruggedity is very okay too, Not a boring car, handling on high speed is superb. Infact you'll be tempted to keep pressing the gas pedal till you reach 260km/h if you're not disciplined. My point is, how can you have 1m and still be doing rentals or looking for higher purchase with a deposit of 1m. Is your village people after you? With your 1m, commot like 50k keep for one side for gazzuzz to help inspect Cars within that range that can fit for the hustle. There's nothing as sweet as driving your own car on this hustle. There are times I do 1 to 2 weeks not driving when I feel like taking a break, I work at my own time. For a while now, I've sticked to indriver only cos of the freedom the app offers. I value/ enjoy my peace of mind.

I have learnt my lessons, buying brand new tires for this job isn't worth it. Because anything can happen to the tire and that's it. Money is gone just like that, I traveled to ikorodu through the epe axis after driving on that bad road I noticed car have started wobbling.
Got to alignment and tire was racked, that's how I lost the tire
most of those brand new tyres are low quality china tyres. Buy grade A, summer and recently manufactured toks tyres and rest.

In this hustle you have to be street smart hence our mechanics will send you back to your village. Some months back, my car stopped on the road due to my negligence. Some strands of my auxilliary belt broke, instead of me to use blade to cut everything off, and drive my to destination like that and park till I could get another belt, since its AC and power steering that wont work. My car doesn't overheat since its the timing belt that controls the water pump, the mumu me kept driving car like that till the strands found its way to the timing compartment and car jumped timing. Mechanic came and we discovered 11 valves bent cos mumu me was still trying to start car even with the obvious sound that car wasn't cranking properly. Mechanic said valves were 1500 each totaling 16500 I said okay. Called my parts supplier, I bought valves for 800 each totaling 8800. When I was using camry 2004, there was a time 3 of my coils went bad according to rewire. I was there when rewire was testing which was bad, I paid attention to how he removed and tested all. He said a coil was 5k at the time and also charged me 5k for labour. I told him and I wasn't ready, I gave him 1k for his stress. Next morning I was in Ladipo myself, got the coil #3500 each and fixed it myself. I even discovered it was only 2 that was bad. I ended up spending less than 10k for a job that I could have spent 20k for. Some of us will be forming big man on top nothing, go to the spare part market and buy it yourself even though you have to be smart too when dealing with the spare parts dealers too. This days, my mechanic don't even answer me if I ask for price of a defective part from him cos he knows I can always get it myself and cheaper. Be street smart my people.

There are two version for super Tech ..

1. Super Tech 10k miles oil change
2. Super Tech Advance for 20k oil change......

I will bring in mostly the Super Tech Advance... This will give protect ur engine from wear and tear .. And most importantly protection from sludge.....

In terms of oil change ..my advice is to read owners manual in terms of when to change oil ......since engine oil has improved over the years .. Some oil are. good till 10k to 20k before change... If anything at all I will only do 10k miles Top ......

In terms of pricing.. When the goods arrive will have the final price.. Either way I will make it more affordable to everyone

Baba, if you look at what the man has said critically and in different perspectives, you will see there is an actual sense in what he stated.
It’s good to encourage people to do things (this I’m in support of), but it’s equally bad when you do it in a way that could be detrimental to you or your livelihood.

All a zealous and determined person needs is word of reassurance on a path he’s thinking of taking, it’s not really necessary he sees results, and if he so determined he’ll make his findings and take his decision.

There’s a lot of strings attached to sharing your earnings online bro:
From the perspective of the state Government
To the App companies
To the riders
And To that man somewhere who’s probably now thinking of quitting his Job cause he thinks cab drivers make more money

Have you thought of what their submission will be?

Well said bro. Apart from being childish, I don't think a typical Nigerian wants to show you the way where he or she is making real money. Can't remember when Gazzuzz or radautoworks shows how much they make to encourage others as those displaying their earnings claim. Besides, someone making close to 500k per month shouldn't even be on a forum like this again. Should have fleet of cars by now. Awon dashboard geng, but not reflecting in their accounts or lifestyle.

I repeat Na level of their maturity

I have being following this thread silently since last year and also reading everyone comments here..
But something always caught my attention each time I'm reading most guys comments especially the talkative ones.

There comments is all over this thread and they have been doing this E-hailing for more than two years but still don't own there personal car.

They re always looking for a car on rental.
If you click on there profile you will see topic created by them like " I'm looking for a car to rent and ready to pay 25k weekly"

I want to ask...Are these kinds of people not ashamed of themselves?

Ona cum Lagos cum work do E-hailing for ona mate till ona old?

I don't want to mention names here but I want these persons to motivate themselves..

I was riding okada here in Lagos last year and was able to save 1million in a period of 11months to buy a mini bus just in a period of 11months o..
There is money in transportation but some people re lazzy and don't know how to discipline themselves..

I don't like dragging pespective with ppl, cos I'm of the opinion that all man is entitled to what works for him, I just hate when someone tries to foster his or her opinion on others.

It calls for concern when some says he used 1m to fix a car within the space of one year. The only question that crosses my mind is, how much does in make in a year? My first car did not cost me up to a million, the same car produce the money for the second one and it's still very much Ard. The second one have produced money for the third one if I so wish( I appreciate the fact that I'm on kind of profit race henceforth with the kind as cost of investment has been over meet). I have changed the gear once after a year usage for 90k and that can happen to any car. The only issue with the car now are the legs from shocks to lower arm bushings, probably linkage and the oil seal leakage. Best if I can push for baking as well. All this is not up to 150k after using it on the roll of 2 years. No regrets atall

Xghost, nobody is doubting you. What we are only saying is that price is higher than the market price of corolla that year

shollywendy1:

You got a wrong figure in the calculation because you bought the corolla at a very high price that time. Corolla used to be btw 1.5 - 1.7 as against 2.2m you bought it.
Please recalculate using the average market value of corolla that year compare to the amount you sold it off, then you will understand which one is better.

That's what am trying to show him o, he sold a car he has used for 3yrs at 1.2m, car that market price at time of purchase was 1.6m. In 3yrs he has made approx 3m from the car if it was on rental and 6m if he drove it. Repairs and servicing already accounted for.

With the Volvo let's see how frequent or less he visits d mechanic, how much he spends on replacement parts, how long they use to trouble-shoot and repair, downtime and how much the car will be worth after 3yrs of use.

If it's comparable, then by all means we will jump in the Volvo train grin

weight is a lot more important than brand tbh. What brand does is mostly make you sure that the weight on the jug is exactly what's in the jug.

That's why I stick with what is known to b true and real...
All these Nigerian synthetic blends of 8k, 10k in the market today...only God knows what they mix inside container and plaster 5w30 on container for us.
