theTranslator:Yes, I’m a Yoruba nationalist and I have always been since I started digging into Yoruba history. It opened my eyes into a lot of things and I think if there’s ever going to be a great African nation, Yorubas are going to be the ones to build it. What Europeans achieved with Magna Carta Libertatum in the 13th century was already being practiced in Yorubaland long before then. I don’t think people know how great Oyo empire was and how its civilization was way ahead of its time. What robbed Oyo (and other Yoruba kingdoms) is that Europeans never got the chance to witness its greatness before its collapse (they only heard about it). They only saw its ruins. That said, I don’t do emotions, I only do logic. When you read extensively on the history of different countries and how they were able to build functioning nations. And you do a comparative analysis with Nigeria, you’d see that Nigeria shares similarities with other failed countries. The only difference is that the failed countries ended up being balkanized and the independent countries that emerged became great countries. I understand what you mean by restructuring now and secession later, which means we need to crawl before we walk. However, you don’t go to a negotiating table asking outrightly for what you want. That’s why we have not been able to get restructuring. You go there and ask for something extraordinary and negotiate to a compromise. |

You dont know his history, he has always been like this. He was imprisoned as a student union leader, he was named Prisoner of conscience. He has visited demilitarized zone between North and South Korea 31 years where nuclear weapons are kept. The problem with some of you is that you're ignorant and you're comfortable with it. That's one the major problem with our generation. He kmows what he saying. Imsoblessed: |

brickswrites:Self determination is an internationally recognised human right. It is also recognised by international law. But this illiterate called Olawepo- Hashim is acting like self determination is something from planet Mars Britain created Nigeria, yet Britain gave one of its Regions, Northern Ireland, a referendum in 1972 for them to decide if they want to carry being part of Britain The same Britain gave another Region, Scotland, a referendum in 2014 The same Britain used referendum to leave the EU. But Olawepo Hashim is here talking nonsense |

Built2last:All he said suddenly reflected in u. It's just abt extreme enmity, jealousy, with no proper plan that motivate ur way for secession. Ethno-religious phobia of Muslims is what is pushing u for these unnecessary ranting. Go to almost all Muslims Students Society in Northern Universities and I'm upbeat you'll find out that most official members are Yoruba, Igala and Ebira; there is no room for tribal sentiment in Islam, this is pure mischief and usual propaganda which a good Muslim can never enage in. The only people who do justice and make clear clarification, unbias analysis about true Nigerian state are either Yoruba Muslims nor Northerners but the rest allow their argument to be derived from religious house instead of the actual state of the Nation. |

Hmmm! Too bad many people didn’t take their time to read this. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim obviously knows what he’s saying and has what it takes to lead. He’s not like the regular politicians we have in Nigeria. |

Governance is not about emotions and critical issues about the future of our country should subjected to sound and convincing logic..Majority of the reactions posted here in reactions to Olawepo-Hashim position on Nigeria and the balkanisation agitators are largely driven by emotions, and unfounded logic. I agree with him that most of the agitators are either mischievous or too empty on the history of Nigeria. Our problem today is not about the size of the country or its diversity (in fact, that is our strength), but the mismanagement of the country resources which is done by the vultures from all tribes. In fact, we should be grateful for the voice of reason like Olawepo-Hashim, that has become the lone voice in this present wilderness of confusion" Olawepo Hashim was a year ahead of me in the Mass Comm dept of University of Lagos, and we are together in the Students Movement. He is not frivolous. I can testify. |

theTranslator:I have never liked you, but you just got my attention. You made sense when you said we should go for restructuring before secession. But that is how far the brilliance goes, that is just the end. The north are not dundies. They will never go for a restructuring in your own terms that will favor you. They will rather go to war than accept a restructuring that leave holes for separation. The north sees restructuring as secession. Restructuring can only happened in their own terms. |

theTranslator:It's good this aspect of you is coming out, don't let it go down. The yorubas have a great history, one that could rival any other. Yet, this great history is stunted under Nigeria. |

The present "Break Nigeria" choristers are made up of three groups: Political actors who have lost out in the power game; activists who are tired or seeking more relevance and an uninformed army of youth/elders goaded on by the first two groups. I want to submit here that even at the height of the fight against military rule, the 'National Dialogue' of July 1990 packaged by the Alao Aka Bashorun-led National Consultative Forum, NCF was not about break up, but about addressing the Class relations and proper democratic structures in the country. The Kaima Declaration of 1994 by the people of Niger Delta was not about break up, but about democratic governance and Resource Control. Likewise the Yoruba Agenda signed by prominent Yoruba Leaders of Thought on the 11th of May, 1994 was not about breakup, but about fashioning an "opportunity for self government within ONE NIGERIA". Lets read out history. Lets look at these documents Nigerians had always want to be one. Lets address the problem. Just like what Olawepo-Hashim said, #WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER |

Fejoku:ABEG SHUT UP. Because you don't like Buhari, we must break up Nigeria. Where was your loud voice in the 16 years of southern rule and looting by PDP? Was it Fulanis that were looting? Are Obasanjo and James Ibori and Diezani and Stella Oduah and Orji Kalu and Madam Jonathan et al Fulani people? Do you know how many billions of dollars we can count between JUST those 6 southerners? When your people were looting and wrecking the economy, you did not want break up. Get this: NIGERIA WILL NOT BREAK UP. If you cannot wait for the next elections in a year and half to choose the next president, MOVE TO ANOTHER COUNTRY. Traitors. |

theTranslator:Our unity will not produce any results, sadly. The national assembly is rigged in favour of the north. put all our representatives together, we will not still match their figure. And you can not lobby any member of them to go against the north agenda in that regard. Until that fraudulent 1999 constitution is thrown out, we can not do anything. That is where the power of the north lies, and they will do anything to keep it so. |
