KingKingKing:I disagree with the bolded. Hausa seems to be the most widely spoken language in Africa, that is after Afrikaans, not Yoruba. Although Yoruba is spoken in about two more west African countries including Benin Republic. It is also a strong language in Brazil where the yorubas and yoruba culture is a significant part of the Brazilians. I however agree with the rest of your submissions. |

BabaIbo:Mister Man go to countries like Brazil were Yoruba is an official language. Yoruba remains the ONLY African culture that is indigenous in South America. Don't dull yourself. Travel. I used to think with 'local' brain like you until I got my passport and started traveling the world. There is hardly any country in South America were Yoruba culture is not practiced. Go to Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, etc. and see how the Yoruba culture is embraced wholeheartedly. Again travel and liberate yourself from foolishness. |

YungMillionaire:You're dense, you know nothing when it comes to Nigeria languages in diaspora. All the 3 major Nigerian languages are spoken in foreign countries. You are sitting in one mud house in Ogbomosho to spew trash. Just as Yoruba is spoken in those countries you listed, that is how Igbo is also spoken in United States, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Belize, Barbados, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, Equatorial Guinea. Do you know that the first king of independent Haiti is an Igbo slave? You don't know. Hausa is also spoken in other countries, mostly African countries. |

BabaIbo:Guy Igbo not on the same level with Yoruba in Caribbean or South America. Not even close by any stretch of the Imagination. I have been to most of these countries you are listing. i am talking from experience. Yoruba culture is the single most influential African culture BY FAR in the Carribean and South America. In fact, there is a religion simply called YORUBA or Santeria that spans Brazil, Columbia all the way to Cuba and the Dominican Republic. It is based on IFA and the Yoruba gods (Sango, Yemoja, Ogun etc.). Amadioha is not recognized, my guy. Don't argue with me on this. You will embarrass yourself big time. I have receipts. Back away now that you still can. In this aspect of life, Igbos have no standing whatsoever. |

Mikecold:Yoruba is one whether Muslim or Christian, we get along and it's been like that before your father was born, unlike you and the north, you SE and SS discriminate against your tribe people who are Muslims and the north discriminate against their tribe people who are Christians |

YungMillionaire:Shut the fvck up please and stop this empty rant. I don't type things that are not backed up with facts. Yoruba culture is the single blah blah blah. Aside from Brazil, you have no sizeable presence compared to Igbos in any other countries in Southern or Northern America. Support your assertions with official documents or facts, don't come and be using your usual "nigbati nigbati" brain here. Even in Canada, the numbers of Igbos there is higher than that of other Nigerians ethnic groups combined. I don't want to go to other continents, that one na finishing for you. Igbos are way ahead of you folks in all spheres/faces of life. Henceforth, I will only respond to your mention if it includes facts/official figures. LOL, Nairaland is a faceless forum where some people thinks they are better or more traveled than others. |

BabaIbo:Your brain is clearly disconnected from your typing fingers. We are talking about indigenous culture and this one is talking about the population of Igbos that got visa to leave Nigeria for Canada. You seem to be confusing Canada with Cambodia. But that's a debate for another day. Where is the video of South Americans or Carribeans (in South America or in the Carribean) worshipping amadioha and speaking Igbo language? If you can produce just one video, I will post 10 were black and white South Americans/Carribeans are speaking Yoruba language and worshipping Yoruba gods. Name one country in the Carribean or South America where Igbo is recognized as an official language like Yoruba is recognized in Brazil? Santeria is a huge religion is Cuba, where is the Igbo equivalence? I have warned you to desist and save yourself while you can. I will use you to flex muscle on this thread, just for my amusement. |

BabaIbo:They don't because it's useless...... nobody concerns themselves with useless stuff, plus Igbo and Swahili shouldn't be in the same sentence......Yoruba is a tribe on the rise, our destiny is to rule Africa. |

illicit:I tell you! The UK intellectual Property office need to tell Nigerians, the specific law they were referring to, in this appropriation. I cannot imagine whether it is their level of ignorance or just mischievous racism, that would drive them to make such a mistake, to appropriate a Race, Religion, People, Nation, to a single Company that lied to them that Timbuktu is a "location in nowhere"! Shame on those who made that decision, whatever the foolish reason they can come up with. |
| Re: UK company's 'Yoruba' trademark sparks outcry by Mayeldah(m): 6:08pm On May 26, 2021 |
If only Timbuktu Global knew the meaning of the name 'Yoruba' they would've long discard the idea to trademark it. They should ask the Fulanis what that name means |

Mitishi:Maybe one of the original owners was a Yoruba person. It still does not change the fact that "Yoruba" as a phrase, cannot be Trademarked by anyone, if you know what that entails to the people/Nation or Race themselves. ![]() Imagine if someone in Pakistan trademarked "Biafra" and tell you that you cannot use that name, except with his permission? ![]() |

BSdetector:Typical sophis.ticated mor.on. A tribe that made all your dirty villages habitable. A tribe which their lifestyle(Apprenhentice etc) is being studied in top institutions of the world. I don't time for silly people. Always making mouth, either you like it or not, Igbos are greater than you folks. Left for Igbos, you could have been a full time slave to Fulanis. |
