i said some of thing to a general one setting time and he say, the police and any law enforcement agency in this country have to write to military police unit whether in the navy , army and air force before prosecuting any military personal all the military unit have their police unit. i remembered he said that they have the necessary power backed by law to prosecute both serving and retire solider. he said, if a military personal is being arrested by the police without a statement giving to is police unit for authorization, then the military unit involved have the right to go and rescue their personal. i support the military on that because our police are unprofessional to worked on military personal case, they can be manipulated .
There's no such things written anywhere! The military is only immune when the acts are committed in line of duty e.g crowd control that turns bloody. In this case it'd be a court martial.

A lot of radarada we see is because of past military rule. All I see is bloody bureaucracy

Say it as it is oga. The Generals you mentioned are igbos and not from the north. You people on this thread, in your bid to come out as nationalists, try so hard to not say the conspicuous truth. I pity the southern
recruits whose lives will be wasted in Borno.

Seriously, i don't like this selection. Maj gen Yahya is of 37rc. We skipped at least 15 Generals. They might retire Sarham. Look at Maj Gen Ahanaotu for heaven sakes. That is a very high ranking and experienced officer. Look at Maj. Gen Ezugwu too. Anyways they have their reasons.

I think we have to also look into how we retire Generals in the military. It's best appointment is made based on seniority i.e If appointment for the COAS is to be made then selection should be done from the most senior course in service or if we are sticking to this model of appointing anyone then we should figure out a way of retaining or keeping those Generals that would have fallen casualty as a result of an appointment in the service because I believe they still have alot to offer. We can't be spending huge amount of money to send these men on expensive courses only to end their career abruptly. The way things are going any President can wake up one day and appoint a Brig.Gen as COAS
Haba, its not been haphazard abeg. Its obvious the criteria is experience in the theatre.

For me, experience over seniority any day (Although I preferred Ahanotu). I also agree that we need to find a way to keep some generals. Probably strategic offices in DHQ?

This is the major problem I have with his appointment as the COAS, I would have loved someone from either Armour, Artillery or Signals with experience in intelligence to have bee selected.
Our approach to this war needs to shift from majorly relying on infantry to other things.

I cannot discuss the speculation/allegations of corruption, if those alleging him have evidence, they can sue him or raise it during the senate confirmation process.
Our immediate past CDS was from the Army signals. I just want a smart tactician. Someone with guts. I don't really know much about the incoming COAS. I agree with you on changing our approach in the COIN war. If i was C-in-C, i won't appoint someone with corruption allegations. Maj-Gen Sarham was the best man for the job. Remember 2019 elections, when he was GOC 6 division in Rivers state. How he exposed the massive inappropriate electoral practices by the parties.

Wrong, military men are subject to both the civil and Military law.... That is the position of the law.
Non learned minds , keep thinking Military law is above the civil law .
If a military man commits murder not relating to line of duty, the court with jbetter urisdiction would be the civil courts.
oga i am not here to argue with you, i am telling you to go and confirmed from military official. any offense committed both in operation and out operation is meant to be treated in military court. and any personal being arrested by any law enforcement agency , the agency will have to write to the military police if for the Nigeria army , if he/she is an airforce personal they will have to write to the air force police and if he/she is a navy personal they have to write to the naval police for authorization. oga go and ask and stop bring point for argument

Does it mean that most southerners are retired in time, compared to their northern counterparts? In your bid to defend decisions,
you end up exposing the truth.

I know four Generals that also were theatre commanders that are his seniors and I believe the over 27 Generals that will have to go atleast seven to ten of them may have been theatre commanders at one point in time. My own is that we should find way to retain some of these Generals when such appointment is done, than just relieving them of their duties even if it means posting them as instructors. Their experience matters alot especially to junior and mid-level officers.

No even call Sarham if you're accusing this present COAS of misconduct. It was under his watch in River state we saw soldiers shamefully meddling into the Governorship/Presidential elections. Infact he was removed because of the controversies it generated. This present COAS is competent to occupy that seat.

I will be very pained if Oga Ahanotu choose to resign or made to, mehn that man is an intelligent, smart, a no nonsense general and of course a battle tested veteran. His name is forever engraved in the history of Nigerian Army Armour corps, his emotional intelligence is also top notch.

Truly the system of retiring experienced Generals need to be reshuffled. The Country has invested so much on them to see them retire abruptly.

Congratulations to the new COAS I pray his reign is Way way longer than the 21st and he is led to have the right set of people around him, that would help him "kick the ass of those Bastards"- words of Ahanotu.

NASS TEAM IN USA TO ASSESS PROGRESS OF WORK ON NAF A-29 SUPER TUCANO AIRCRAFT

As part of their oversight functions, the National Assembly (NASS) Joint Committee on Defence and Air Force are currently in the United States of America (USA) on inspection tour of Embraer Defence Security Incorporated (EDSI), manufacturers of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) A-29 Super Tucano aircraft. Specifically, members of the joint committee are in the USA to assess the status and progress of work on the NAF A-29 Super Tucano aircraft. On arrival at EDSI yesterday, 27 May 2021, the NASS team led by Senator Michael Nnachi, was briefed on the progress of work on the NAF A-29 Super Tucano programme and the scheduled date of delivery.

While briefing the NASS team, Colonel Authur Ford of the United States Air Force Fighters and Advance Aircraft Directorate stated that 10 out of the 12 aircraft were ready for delivery while 2 were undergoing modification and integration to NAF specific operational configuration. He went on to state that 6 of the aircraft are scheduled to arrive in Nigeria in July 2021 while the remaining 6 will be delivered before the end of October 2021. The NASS team was assured that the aircraft, expected to play critical roles in the fight against insurgency and criminality, would be delivered as planned.

Responding, Senator Michael Nnachi commended EDSI for the quality of work on the NAF A-29 Super Tucano. He however queried the long duration of time from the date of full payment to expected date of delivery, which he estimated to be between 3 to 4 years. In response, the Col Ford informed the team that the long duration was due to the challenges of configuring the aircraft to fit NAF’s required specifications.

The visiting team which also included Honourables Babajimi Benson, Shehu Koko, Abubakar Maki and Honourable Abass Adigun were received on arrival at Jacksonville, Florida by the Nigerian Defence Attaché to the USA, Air Commodore Jibrin Usman, the Lead Foreign Liaison Officer on the A-29, Air Vice Marshal Sule Lawal and senior management staff EDSI.

A must watch

Very informative documentary..."modern day combat is like an orchestra...". "When you start a war you cannot control the events". And one lesson for Nigeria from one of the experts "you either co-exist or you don't exist at all".

And I'll add for the current administration in Nigeria dialogue with society and the elders of the land for a new workable constitution for justice and while you invest in modern arms to annihilate criminal groups also seek ways to douse the tension and bring healing to the land which will reduce the overstretch of the military and stop the opening of new fronts of war because in reality you can't kill everybody.

War is bad. May peace come to our world.

A bus driver has been physically assaulted by a Nigerian military man for stopping on the highway for schoolchildren to cross in Lagos.

In a video posted by Instablog9ja on Thursday, the soldier in military camouflage got down from his motorcycle and asked the commercial bus driver to get down from his vehicle.

He was seen beating the driver with his hands and kicking him, as the helpless man got off his bus and tried to beg him.

The driver and passengers pleaded but their pleas were futile.

After the military operative drove off, a passerby asked what transpired between the duo, and he explained that his offence was waiting for the children to cross to the other side of the road, adding that the military man accused him of applying brakes unexpectedly.

“I waited for students to cross the road because I could not hit them. That was why he came to start beating me. He said I applied the brakes suddently because he was behind me on the lane,” the assaulted driver said.

Passengers and onlookers were seen in the video hurling abuses at the soldier as he zoomed off after he realised he was being filmed.

Some stuff we allude to military brutality may fall under PTS.
I still believe looking into the mental health of soldiers would solve most of these issues.

Hajia Hajara Usman Baba, President of the Police Officers Wives Association and wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has decried the proliferation of beer parlours in police barracks, describing it as a bad influence on children and the future of Nigeria.

She stated that she would immediately send a signal to the Force headquarters for the outright relocation of beer parlours from police barracks, threatening that whoever flouted the directive thereafter, would be ejected from the barracks.

The POWA President was on a three-day working visit to familiarise herself with POWA members in the state and also to access the Police children school, to improve the general standards.

She noted that beer parlours should be located at a given distance from the barracks as stipulated by law.

Addressing POWA members at the POWA hall, Ikeja, Hajara said, “During my inspection yesterday (Wednesday) I saw a lot of beer parlours in barracks. I know it is you people that encouraged such. You should try and speak to your husbands to follow the rules and regulations of the barracks.

“I grew up in the barracks because my father was a policeman. Then, there was no beer parlour. And with the future of our children in the barracks, we should be careful because these children are more intelligent than us.

“We are going to send signals immediately, for the relocation of the beer parlours. If you don’t keep to it, you will be ejected out of the Barracks.”

She also lamented the dirty state of barracks in Lagos and announced the commencement of environmental sanitation, every Saturday. She informed that she would personally take part in the next one, after taking a 30-minute walk with POWA members, as part of activities to mark her visit.

She said, “What I saw at the barracks was devastating. The barracks were unkempt. It was very dirty. If there is no sanitation nationwide, can’t you sanitise yourself, or don’t we have barracks leaders? There is going to be sanitation henceforth. It is going to be a continuous exercise until we are retired.”

Noting that policemen had been demoralised due to happenings in the country, she admonished POWA members and other wives of policemen to be supportive at this moment, by being submissive to their spouses, adding that this was not the time to nag at home, as such would go a long way to affect their husbands’ efficiency at work.

Why does the Federal Government behave like that? I wonder why we always want to do things the stupid way. Why can't we select from the top. That way everyone can be motivated to work his way through, and there will be a more effective military. No wonder The Military can disobey the constitution because of the federal government.
