Oluwo Akanbi: South-West Will Suffer If Nigeria Breaks Now by Kwanza: 4:34pm On Jun 02, 2021
The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun State, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, on Wednesday, warned that South West will suffer if Nigeria breaks up now and begged youths agitating for the Yoruba nation to calm down.

He said this during the official presentation of the Osun Youth Policy Document of the State Ministry of Youths by the State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, in Osogbo, the state capital.

The monarch lauded Oyetola’s administration for its good plans for the youths in the state and urged the youths to cooperate with the government to deliver rather than agitate for a breakup.

Oba Akanbi said only Lagos can pay the salary of its civil servants without waiting for money from the federal government, saying that other South-West states cannot pay salaries of their workers and that majority of people in the region were civil servants.

‘Youths are important’

Speaking at the event, Oyetola said youths are very critical to his administration’s sustainable development and explained that the Osun Youth Policy Document was developed to empower the young people in the State.

The newly-unveiled Youth Policy Document has four components -Youth Empowerment, Youth Engagement, Youth Entrepreneurship and Youth Education.

Oyetola said his administration had enunciated a clear policy framework to ensure that an enabling environment is created for the youths to maximally realise their creative and productive potential.

He said the Osun Youth Policy Document contains a commitment by the government, the youth of the State and the society in pursuance of youth development and growth.

He said, “As captured in the Policy, youth development is holistic and integrated, requiring the support and active involvement of all relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Youth Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations and the Public Sector, Private Sector and Philanthropists.”

Oyetola, who described youths as the most productive, efficient and energetic segment of the population, said his administration had invested tremendously in them as part of efforts to build a virile and sustainable economy and ensure all-around growth and development.

Oluwo I don't want to insult you, but let me ask you this, before the amalgamation where the Yoruba race not doing well? Before the discovery of oil where the southern side not living fine?
The only reason I think you and your kind are afraid of dividing the country is because what you gain as long as the country remain one not even because of your care for the Yoruba race....

I want you to know that breaking up doesn't mean to stop using the naira IMMEDIATELY, so trade and commerce would still continue with the denomination until each new nation can come up with their own legal tender, and even if there is going to be any thing like hunger, I want you to know that it won't be as severe as it was during the civil war, believe me when I say that mechanisms are in place to cushion the effect of the break-up

ThePriceSorcerer:

You made a valid point but don’t forget the fact that the so called amalgamation took place decades back and since then, the entire geo zones have been living off each other.

If Nigeria breaks now, all zones are going to experience set back but it all boils down to what we have on ground to ease the pain of breaking.

No sir, Nigeria have no future if a millitary spokesperson can come out and say that a repentant BOKO HARAM stands the chance to be the president of this country, I can't share same country with people like you who have sold their soul and conscience.

buckeyemedia:
And the reason people like you want Nigeria to break up is because they have nothing, & have no vision to emancipate themselves & imagines that an Utopia is better than the reality, not because he really cares for the Yoruba race.

maasoap:
Mehn, things have really gone bad in this country!

Only oil revenue keeps this country together, the fact is if a war happens they'd be no external assistance because the oil revenue is currently not enough for nigeria, compared to the 1960s when. There was a bounty for external influence.

That's one reason Nigeria can't break, regions without oil will suffer. Even with the oil how are we faring.. But the fact is getting out of the comfort zone(Nigeria and the reliance on oil) might actually unleash hidden potentials..

Definitely not the common man who plants his cocoa and sell it to whoever can pay him. Those who will suffer are those receiving free oil money like oluwo is doing.

Eran Ogun ni alawe yii.

Oluwo is a disgrace to the Iwo people.

I can't help but wonder why prominent sons and daughters of Iwo haven't moved to have him deposed?

The guy isn't a king. He's a rascal.

Southwest is the most endowed of the regions in Nigeria in agriculture, amazing human resources, natural resources and a crazy work ethic. They are even the ones with their cousin southerners that will survive if Nigeria breaks up. Yeye

The only thing holding Nigeria together is crude oil!

Nigerian elites' greed for crude oil free money without cracking their brains on how to create wealth from nothing is the only reason they don't want Nigeria to break up.

But this greedy Oba forgot that Yoruba can capitalise on educational tourism to become next UK for West African countries.....where everyone would want to travel to obtain good education.

They can also capitalise on Christian religious center which they are already doing well.

Cocoa is still a much sought after commodity in the international market......they can invest heavily in it and turn things around and build chocolate factories and beverage industrial hubs.

Ondo State have some crude oil.....it should be enough for southwest not to beg for crude oil from other regions.

These elites are completely useless and senseless.

The only region that will suffer after Nigeria's breakup is the North.......not because they don't have the resources to pilot their affairs, but because of their Islamic religious fanatism, they will never move forward instead will become another Afghanistan and Yemen.

All these Southern elites ought to have realised that Northern Nigeria is holding the rest of Nigerians down from developing. angry angry

Nigerian elitists dey fire die! The NASS show grow some balls and impeach that daft oldie in Aso Rock. That nonentity has no business being there. That will save this sinking ship.

@RisenJoe
You cannot use what happened several decades ago to compare the Nigeria of today. The population of this country has tripled now and petrodollars have made Nigerians lazy. Nigeria may just be worse than Sudan if oil becomes worthless.

PS: Whether the oba is right or wrong is none of my business.
