PRESS RELEASE

TACKLING SECURITY CHALLENGES: POLICE ARREST 84 NOTORIOUS CRIMINAL SUSPECTS IN SPECIAL OPERATIONS

· Foil attempt to kidnap Catholic Bishop in Zaria

Following the ongoing implementation of a robust security action plan to protect citizens and critical national infrastructure across the country, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, have arrested a total of eighty-four (84) notorious criminal suspects within the past one month. A total of forty-five (45) sophisticated firearms and ammunition including 1-GPMG, 1-LAR rifle, 17-AK47 rifles, 2-Pump Action rifles, 20- locally fabricated firearms, 3-single barrel guns, 9899- live ammunition of different calibres, 80-fake vehicle number plates, 1- Toyota Camry with Reg. No. AA 792 HJA and 1-Toyota Corolla LE with Reg. No. QAP 622 AA, were recovered from the suspects in the operations.

The suspects were arrested for their involvement in series of violent crimes including terrorism, banditry, kidnap for ransom, possession and proliferation of illegal weapons, armed robbery, unlawful production of vehicle number plates etc. While many of the suspects were arrested in follow-up on cases of violent crimes under investigations, many others were arrested after being subdued following gun duel with the police who took the battle to the doorsteps of the criminals.

Notably amongst the cases is the arrest of four (4) members of a notorious criminal gang responsible for carrying out some of the high-profile kidnap for ransom operations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kaduna, Niger, Katsina, Bauchi, and Plateau States. The suspects are Umar Abdullahi ‘m’ 40yrs of kali Kura village, Giwa LGA, Kaduna State, Yusuf Tanimu ‘m’ 23yrs of Kurena, Zaria, Kaduna State, Mamuda Suleiman ‘m’ 40yrs of Barkin ladi, Plateau State and Abubakar Yaro ‘m’ 38yrs from Wase village, Plateau State. Investigations revealed that the gang are linked to series of kidnap for ransom crimes including the kidnapping of some senior staff of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, family members of notable political appointees and business entrepreneurs in Kaduna State and other contiguous State. Investigations revealed that the suspects were at an advanced stage of operationalizing their plans to kidnap a Catholic Bishop in Zaria, when they were apprehended. Investigations further revealed that the gang, in addition to their kidnapping enterprise, also supply arms and ammunition to Bandits at Birnin Gwarri, kaduna State, Niger, Katsina and Zamfara States. One (1) General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), two (2) AK47 rifles, six thousand, five hundred and nine (6,509) live ammunition were recovered from the syndicate during the operation.

Similarly, the Police team arrested a 7-man criminal syndicate that specializes in the manufacturing and supplies of locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and ammunition to bandits in forests along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway and funtua – kankara expressway in Katisina State. The suspects are; Dung Michael ‘m’ 26yrs, Dung James ‘m’ 29yrs, Bulus Iliya ‘m’ 25yrs, Markus Danladi ‘m’ 25yrs, Danjuma Dachu ‘m’ 25yrs all from Jos South and Samaila Abdullahi ‘m’ 45yrs from Toro in Bauchi State, Maek Danladi ‘m’ 30yrs from Chukum, Kaduna State. In a similar vein, one Abubakar Mohammed a.k.a Mallam Buzu from Mali who is a transnational gun-runner was arrested by the Police team in Tsamiya, a border town between Benin Republic and Nigeria. He was arrested with a GPMG ammunition chain drive with holding capacity of 1,600 rounds of ammunition.

In addition, three (3) suspects responsible for production of fake vehicle number plates including replica of number plates of government, diplomatic and security agencies were arrested. Investigations revealed that the suspects supply the number plates to criminal elements who use same to beat security checks during their operations. A total of eighty (80) fake number plates were recovered from the gang.

The Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, while affirming that the kinetic and non-kinetic approaches targeted at re-ordering security in the country are already yielding positive results, reassures citizens of the renewed commitment of the Force to the fight against crimes and criminality. He calls for sustained support for the Police and the security community as efforts are intensified to enhance public safety, peace and security.

All the suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigations.

PRESS RELEASE

ISWAP TERRORISTS DECIMATED IN DAMBOA, ABANDONED SUICIDE MISSION

Nigerian Army troops operating as part of Operation Hadin Kai in conjunction with Air Component of the Operation have today Wednesday 2 June 2021 inflicted heavy casualty on Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) Terrorists group who launched a futile attack on Damboa LGA of Borno State. The terrorists attacked the town in multiple waves with Armoured Personnel Carriers and 12 Gun Trucks all mounted with Anti Aircraft Guns, as well as Locally Fabricated Armoured-plated Vehicles loaded with explosives and motorcycles.

The gallant troops successfully defeated the attack, destroyed the locally fabricated armoured-plated vehicles and neutralised over 50 ISWAP terrorists forcing the survivors to run in disarray under heavy gun fire from the resilient troops and Nigerian Air Force attack platforms. The so-called suicide bombers had to abandon their vehicles primed with explosives as they could not withstand the overwhelming fire power from the highly motivated troops. Several weapons and ammunitions were recovered from the depleted terrorists.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Major General Faruk Yahaya congratulated the troops including the Air Component for this great achievement. The COAS restated the commitment of the Nigerian Army under his leadership to ending terrorism and other violent crimes in the North East and the rest of the country. He further enjoined the troops to sustain the ongoing offensive under Operation Tura Takaibango until this noble goal is attained.

What kind of rubbish defeat is this...? All these are vehicles and ammunition they got from the Nigerian army...!! How is it a defeat....? They collected more than ten of your gun trucks and loads of ammunitions and you end up destroying 2 or 3 and some few ammunition which all belong to you in the first place and you still come out to shout we defeat them...!!

Gaskiya to me this is like pouring water in a basket and shouting that you are making progress in filling up the basket with water...!! For me I see zero defeat here...!!

Until we capture or kill the head of iswap and completely destroy their base and use their headquarters as our training ground...then we can be talking defeat of some sort...I no dey for any small pikin game and some mediocre hailing of the army for nothing....!! They should go out and crush these people...I don tire to hear and see how they captured iswap and boko people shoes, slippers, water melon farm and 2 rifle with no magazine....!!

What nonesense..!!

I said I don't know about other regions, but the south west. You can go and check my replies again. I've seen those type of local made AK-47 seized by soldiers in the North West more than 2-3 years ago on Channels TV.

I've never seen a local made AK-47 here in the south west before. And the ikorodu guy pic I posted, his gun is not a local made AK-47. Is guns can't use those kinds of rounds.

The lawmaker representing Benue South Senatorial District, Senator Abba Moro, has called on security agencies in the country to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the killings of natives by suspected herdsmen in four communities in the area.

The lawmaker made the plea during plenary on Wednesday after raising a point of order to draw the attention of the upper chamber to recent killings in Ado Local Government Area.

He described it as “a violent rising wave of Fulani herdsmen attacks in the Benue South Senatorial District of Benue State”.

He said, “The menace has spread like wildfire which poses a great threat to the continued peaceful existence of communities in Benue South Region.”

Moro further noted that on 30th May 2021, Odokem, Ataloga, Ndigwe and Nduobasi Communities of Ado LGA in Benue South Senatorial District were invaded by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

He said the assailants were heavily armed and that over 100 natives were gruesomely murdered with several victims lying critically ill in different places of treatment.

He said, “Sadly, note again that there have been recurring terror attacks on farmers and natives of the Benue South Senatorial District over the years by these herders, which attacks have been perpetually carried out with impunity with no suspect arrested by relevant agencies or operatives for proper action.

“One of such attacks again occurred in Odoke and Ezza/Effium communities of same Ado Local Government Area which resulted in people fleeing their homes to neighbouring communities and consequently the establishment of Internally Displaced Persons’ camps at Igumale and Apa-Ugogzu of the Senatorial District in fear of further attacks.

“Worried that as at the time being, no cogent intervention or panacea to tackling this ugly trend of Fulani herdsmen attacks on Benue South Constituents has come out from any quarter at any level whatsoever.”

There are some very powerful weapons that JuJu can't work against which were fielded against our forefathers.

Asking why Juju didn't bring prosperity and development in the days of our forefathers is like asking why is Christianity not bringing Cameroon prosperity since Cameroon become an independent country?

Asking why Juju is not helping to fight terrorism is like asking why is Islam not helping the Syrians in fighting terrorism?

The Defence Headquarters on Thursday said there was no planned mass retirement of senior officers in the Nigerian Army over the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff.

The new COAS is of Course 37 and has sparked speculations that it could lead to the retirement of senior officers.

Addressing journalists at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, the acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Benard Onyeuko, dispelled such insinuation.

He stressed that at this point, no retirement has been approved, noting that retirement for senior officers in the Armed forces was voluntary.

He said, “At this point, you are all aware of the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya.

“This has stirred up lot of rumours in the media about mass retirement in the military.

“I wish to use this medium to dispel such unfounded rumours.

“Retirement is only on voluntary basis for senior officers who desire to do so.

“At this point, no retirement has been authorised by the Military High Command.”
