Banning Twitter in Nigeria is a petty and thoughtless move by the FG. But then, in the first place, Twitter shouldn't have the power to delete a president's tweet (any president whatsoever).
The Nigerian government and Twitter have both equally erred!

Twitter is a company and every user has to abide with company regulations. The President is head of his office, while the company official is also the head of his own office too. Everybody behave well in his own lane. You are not above regulations because you are a President.

Therefore, Twitter us done no wrong banning Buhari.

We Nigerians are too egocentric, and we don't understand where someone's authority begins and ends.

You're very funny.

Well I actually called you a fool first, but it wasn't meant to be an insult. You called Buhari a fool for banning twitter, so I said that no reasonable government would tolerate a foreign power (Twitter in this case as a western media power) imposing it's rules in it's country. So I meant that you might actually be the fool (wasn't supposed to be an insult). But you took it that way.
I would have apologised, but reading this your funny comment has actually reinforced the belief in me that you're more foolish than I imagined.

Any instruction by Muhammadu Buhari’s Attorney General of the Federation to arrest and prosecute Nigerians still using Twitter is null and void and ultra vires. There is no law criminalising the use of Twitter, and Buhari cannot make laws. He can only implement them. The policy of the Buhari administration to suspend Twitter’s operations in Nigeria is not a law. It is a policy. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees all Nigerians the right free speech and freedom of association. Thus, ignore any such unlawful threats by Buhari’s Attorney General of the Federation

Twitter has played a huge role in politics. Take a look at how Turkey got saved after Erdogan's tweet to the world abt an insurrection. Germany, France and other nations have benefitted from the gateway effect, the control that you seek decries the very existence of the platform
If twitter allowed people to post what they like without getting banned, then no problem.
If they delete tweet they find offensive on the platform or ban people instigating violence without bias, then no problem. But these companies are biased.
People have posted worse than Buhari, they didn't ban them. Even at their early stage, Facebook and twitter where looking for more users so they allowed equal right for all. They didn't remove any post that wasn't ponographic or irritating.
Now that they're big companies with billions of users, they can select who to and who not to ban. At this point they are no longer a free media platform, but a publisher and will be treated like a news media, instead of a free social media platform.
Social media platforms aren't meant to play any role in politics. If they ban far right contents, they should also ban far left contents. If they ban only one group because it violates their policy, then there're playing politics and therefore should be treated as a publisher and a foreign threat.

No one is above the law. They deleted some of Trumps tweets and even suspended him let alone the president of one of the most backward nations.

Tomorrow he will start begging other countries for money to borrow without payback.

What will you tell those same people when a war or genocide breaks out from misinformation? You obviously don’t understand the issues at stake.

You people think a war is a joke, better stop being white puppets.

Justdogood:
I have read on alot of social media platforms. How the pro-buhari guys are all out supporting this decision to ban twitter.
Am not here to banter words with them I just wanna make common sense.

It all started with a tweet from @mbuhari, cautioning peoole from a certain region of the country and reminding them how they were dealt with the first time and how he wouldn't hesitate to deal with them again.
Twitter being a private firm with its rules and regulations decided to take action and delete the tweet.
Our almighty president without thinking decided to saction twitter. but because they dont have any office in Nigeria, he bans them from Nigerian cyberspace.

Now back to the guys supporting this.
1. What will you tell the twitter handlers of the big, medium and small companies in Nigeria who were employed just to either be twitter customer service representative or twitter account manager.
Companies in the banking sectore, oil and gas, telecom, health, name them. These guys woke up today to see that their jobs are at stake just because of our president's ego?

2. The genuine guys who do their major marketing and sales on twitter. Who buy stuff and sell online. Who cannot afford to pay for a physical shop and are making ends meet by using the social media platform.
They are out of jobs or no longer gonnna be able to use twitter to do that. And they have lost their customer base cos of just one man's inability to take correction and admit error.

3. What of the social media influencers. Those who make a living by helping promote or market companies or brands on twitter and are paid or make good money they use in helping their families. Some of these guys have nothing else doing other than affiliate marketing or twitter marketing.
Guess, the companies will be forced to terminate such contracts and plunge these guys back to the ocean of job-seeking . All because we have a president who is infallible and must be right no matter what.

I heard some comparing and saying that
Nnamdi Kanu or whatever that his own tweets weren't deleted. But I ask a question.
Does that decision take away means of livelihood from any nigerian.
He Mr president is the father of the nation, must he take such decision disregarding whose ox is gored?
Why not ignore and delete yoir account or tell Nigeria government and government officials to stop posting any official info or government related information on twitter.

But he instead decided to kill the fly that perched on his scrotum with a sledge hammer.

What will our mother nation tell these young men and women when they get to work on monday and there is a letter on their desk pleading with them to stay at home for now till further notice, that they are redundant. Or if they are merciful enough, the give you a huge pay cut.
Just because our number one father's ego was touched.

Of what use is politics without society? What use is social interaction if it does not border on issues concerning society like politics. To separate the two is idealogically impossible. Socio-economic and socio-politics are phenomenally intertwined. Freedom of speech cannot be underated at a time such as we are in. But we are different and must show to the world our folly. Shame on us

The easy way to prevent Twitter from being used to start a revolution against a government is for that government to be responsive to its people. The problem isn't Twitter... it is the fact that the people themselves are fed up with a government that doesn't work for its people and simply exists as a parasite, sucking the very life out of the people they are supposed to defend and protect.

I tell people that if Nigeria and US exchange leaders, US won't change. The fact that they're ruling US would cause their head to reset and start acting properly or resign. Whereas the US leaders in Nigeria will continue the corruption and oppression of Nigerians
Nigerians are docile and weak people. Nobody respects or fear a weak person. If someone is oppressed he/she wants everyone to help him, but if another person is oppressed he'll turn a blind eye and mind his business. If someone is brave enough to stand up for the oppressed, the same oppressed people will act as if it doesn't concern them and laugh at him if he doesn't succeed. People only care about themselves and what they'll gain.
If the government does something bad or a politician steals money meant for the people, then you'll hear people saying that God will punish him. If you have a politician friend or connection that helps you with a favour, then God has sent a helper to bless you.
Our leaders take advantage of this attitude and push us to the extreme knowing fully well that we're too greedy and divided to even think of acting.
Nigerians aren't fed up with the government. If they're fed up you'll know

Does the Nigerian constitution guarantee that soldiers can shoot on unarmed civilians during a protest. Does the Nigerian constitution guarantee that soldiers can whoop people on the street like animals. But these things occur in Nigeria.

Open your eyes. You live in a lawless country and therefore you have no right.

You know why there hasn't been another world war? Because we have a few countries with weapons to keep others in check. Without checks, democracy is just a disguised dictatorship. Wonder why our National Assembly is a mess? Because it has become rubberstamped — no checks on the errs of the presidency whatsoever.

Twitter has rules and these rules are one of the little ways to keep these power hungry mo.fos in check.

Why don't you allow Fulanis to wail over their inability to get jobs?

Why na una dey cry for Fulani man wey nor fit get job?

It is fools like you that criticize Twitter's suspension by saying that the FG is violating freedom of speech of Nigerians, while forgetting that the President himself has rights.

The President does not only have rights but responsibilities and powers.

Twitter is too small to prevent the President from protecting Nigerians, and that includes against Twitter, which has, over the years, shown itself to be platform that promotes division, rebellion against constituted authorities and violence.
