I travelled to PH by road in February this year. From Lagos and back to Lagos.

My opinion

People travel daily. It's not a death sentence.

Go with any of the recognised transport companies like GIG, Libra, GUO etc
I am in delta State and delta to PH is very busy every day I don't know were the fear is coming from

Don't travel at night. Depart Lagos in the morning so you arrive PH before evening.
My trip from Lagos to PH took 12 hrs. We departed Lagos at 6.30am.

Have extra cash for any unforseen situation.

Try and avoid late night movement within PH as well.

Air fares are not smiling, it's beyond the reach of so many people.

Lagos to PH by road is about 10-12k. By air probably in the range of 30k or thereabout.

For me I love road trips.

Go in peace.

It's no longer news that there's so much insecurity in Nigeria at the moment and agitation in the South East.
Please I need to hear from PH Residents or anyone who has traveled by road to PH recently.

How safe is it in the city at the moment and those who have traveled there recently

The road is safe, just make sure you are not entering at night so that you don't get exposed to your fears .

Bus drivers do not pass through the East. They go through Warri.

Some still go through that route depending on traffic, location and some other factors especially those sharing boundaries with Anambra but if you are coming with public transport from Lagos you don't need to bother, the drivers always pass through warri except on rare occasions so you don't need to bother about IPOB, unknown gun men palava.
Just make sure to arrive pH before 8pm because of the Curfew mounted by Gov. Wike that starts 8.30pm so that security men won't use you and shine, like I heard if you have I.d card to support whatever claim you're making, you will attach 5k to it for quicker attention, if you don't have that one I cannot answer.

My point is try and arrive pH before 8pm.

[quote author=floss post=102500029]The road is safe, just comply with military checking points once you arrive Onitsha head bridge... never you put on black upon black or any red cap before you're mistaken for an IPOB soldier...
Safe trip, once you pass Control at Owerri, you are already closer to ph.[/quotehe has no business passing through onitsha...a lag-ph trip is through Benin, Delta n bayelsa.

It's safe but try enter portharcourt before 7pm else, police checkpoint will milk the hell out of you. Police extortion in Rivers State is alarming. ₦500 per checkpoint and you can meet like 20 checkpoint on a 1km stretch. Plus make sure your papers are complete. I went to pH recently and I just got back to my base 3days ago

#500 at checkpoint for what? except your papers ain't up to date or complete or tyres are expired or you don't have complete accessories na there FRSC or Police go use u shine. Drove from warri to port Harcourt and vice versa without paying a dime for the last week only problem I had cos I'm moving to a new state and I carried my freezer without receipt and they held my freezer for a week now that I should go and bring the receipt but I never get chance to go collect am

Port Harcourt is very safe. Only the SE is boiling.

You have nothing to fear about PH. Gov Wike has deal with the Ipob terorists and chased them out of PH.

You are welcome to the Garden city. The Treadure Base of the Nation
Sorry for yourself, u don't need to turn everything into tribal war.

Port Harcourt is the safest place in Nigeria today. No more militancy and very minimal rate of kidnapping.

I don't know about Lagos to Warri. But Warri to PH is free of hoodlums.
Note I cannot give any assurance for night journey.

In all ,just put God first before embarking on any journey.

Port Harcourt and it's environs are very safe but I can't vouch for the interstate roads between Lagos and Port Harcourt.

If money is not a problem go get a flight ticket.

The road is safe. I came into Lagos recently and it was good. I suggest u use GIGM (Executive/1st Class) if u want to enjoy ur journey.
If ur driving, just get prepared to talk and talk and talk and beg and settle over 120 Police checking points from Ogun State to River State.

What route did GIGM follow? Warri or Imo route
Re: How Safe Is A Road Trip To Port Harcourt This Period? by Nobody: 11:15am On Jun 08, 2021
Its relatively safe as long as you don't drive in the night unless you have an APC vehicle.
Vehicles come in and go out PH everyday, don't know what the hype of safety is.

Don't let couch potatoes who live in basements scare you from embarking on the trip.
PH is safer than any skull mining state in Nigeria!
