This is our final semester here in school. Today, I was in a deep conversation with a group of my course mates, and we were talking about our performance and grades so far in school. Being their best student they were shocked to hear me tell them that I'm actually on a 2:1 and not a 1:1 and specifically within the range of 4.25 to 4.3 cgpa. Their Shock also shocked me lols grin. Like what were they thinking? And somehow they were disappointed too.

As for me I don't care about their thoughts or opinion about the subject matter, I'm not from a rich home perse, so most at times I spend my time on things that will put money in my pocket rather than books to survive here in school. I even barely read my books, but I'm a very fast learner when I grab a book.

They couldn't fathom why I couldn't make a first class even when they considered me a genius. Anyways, that doesn't matter, maybe some other time in the nearest future things like this won't matter any more. I simply wish myself the very best in life. Graduating top of my class is not an easy feat and I thank God for that. If any of those 1:1 students embark on 10% of
the thingss I do in campus to survy, they will find it difficult making a 2:1 not to talk of a 1:1. So I'm really proud of myself. Glory be to God. Amen!

Reminds me of my university days son. Though mine was the reverse. Was always hustling, never attends lecture or seen reading in school, especially those who sleep in school reading. Nobody knew my MATRICULATION NUMBER. Until same final year when the lady who's matriculation number is next to mine found out and it casted. I was on a guaranteed 2:1. grin

Lol... Them don expect my name for "Advised to withdraw" list tire. cheesy

Grades matters a lot so please stopthis nonesense that grades don't matters, they fact you didn't come out with one you shouldn't discourage people who wants to grade with a good grade.

Grade+Grace+Hardwork=Success

Remove grade from that your equation and see that success can still result. Yeah right though that excellent grades matter but it is not entirely exclusive for success, most especially in Naija!

Some things I have seen

First class graduates who expect to be treated like King Solomon when they start work. Nah that ethic that helped you to get the first class is what we are looking for. If you like come in and don't keep working hard - bye bye.

First class graduates shocked that a 2.2 is rated as having more potential than them. Of course work is not school. Look at football. Go and look at the best u-17 footballers. Very few of them are at the top. People improve in life. Different races, different paths. Those that play football manager - how often has youth intake come in and you misjudge your number one talent.

People deciding that first class is not good. It is good. It is an achievement in life. It is something you can look back and tell your kids.

OP you tried. You should give yourself a pat on the back. I am just like you too. I needed to take care of myself during my post graduate studies and skipped so many classes just to put food on the table. I graduated with a not too bad result and I couldn’t care less. When I heard the grades pf others who didn’t work half as hard as I did as a part time hustle, I gave myself a very big pat at the back. But thank God now, I am fine. People like you will be alright at the end of the day by God’s grace.

This is a very funny mindset to have. What about the 1st class graduates that are employing 3rd class holders? I am not a big fan of grades but whatever doing is worth doing. If you decide to go to school, do your best within your limits.

This is ignorant and self consolatory talk!
Lol..it's not only self consolatory talk. Good grade is important but it's not all that matters. You can pass a message without sounding condescending.

You are absolutely right. It's not all that matters and that is not the point. The point is, while you can do your very best to make excellent grades.

Apologies that you find my post condescending, not intended. Please have a bottle of fresh chilled palm wine.

This summed to how I was in the university, at a time the Dean of my faculty called me... and told me ‘ you’re the smartest in the class’ this class he called me smartest, was 35 students, 3 first class, 22 students in the 2.1 mark of which 16 of us were 4pointers, I was only in 4.2... I asked him why he called me the smartest knowing fully well I was not a first class student.

Then he said a very shocking thing, he said, he knows I give my time to many very active activities (business/work, school & secular politics, campus fellowship) and I still maintain such grades, then he ended it with ‘ for me to even be a politician, it’s because I could deceive people, at that point I laughed, but went home to ponder on those words.

Thanks to everyone for your well thought-out advice and inputs, I really appreciae them.

To those who feel I need some kind of attention or bragging, please don't get me wrong I stand to gain nothing from that as this is a faceless forum.

Anyways, I never knew it was gonna make front page tho. Thanks Mod.

Thanks to you all, remain motivated!

Everything you can do with a first class, you can also do with a 2.1.
