Good day guys, thank you for all the insights shared, my question is, I am about to pay for my SEVIS fee, but if I don't end up going for the VISA interview or probably I don't get a Visa, then I defer my admission till Spring (January 2022), will I still need to pay SEVIS fee when going for VISA interview for spring 2022 admissions? This is because I learnt the SEVIS fee is valid for one year.
Thanks.

SEVIS Fee is for a year. So if you are not going to embassy this fall, it will still be valid till June next year assuming you paid this June. Best

Dear Scholars on this forum,
Please help me clarify this, I received a GA of $21k leaving a deficit of $4k. The deficit on my I-20 indicates personal funds which I actually have well covered since I’ve worked in a good firm for sometime now. I see most people use their family or relatives to cover their deficit. Hope this won’t be an issue that I used personal funds?

asking for a friend who is experiencing this.. how did you merge the old profile

Please guys,, help me review my revised  transcript. MY INTERVIEW IS TOMORROW...Questions with asterisks means I'm not sure if their responses are well constructed.

ME: Good morning Sir/Ma
CONSULAR: Good morning

CONSULAR: Pass me Your Passport and i-20
[ME]: Okay Sir/Ma (passes it)

CONSULAR: Why Are You Going to the US?
[ME]: I am going to the US for my Master’s degree in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics at the Western Illinois University, Macomb.

***CONSULAR: How did you hear about this school?
[ME]: After coming across a research paper written by Professor Shankar Ghimire which was very useful to me during an undergraduate study, I grew interested in the scope and works of Professor Ghimire. Furthermore, I complemented Professor Ghimire on the excellent knowledge he shared in his research paper and I also informed him of my strong desire in having a graduate degree in an analytical field of Economics. Professor Ghimire who happens to be the program advisor of the quantitative economics program at the Western Illinois University informed me of the scientific economics program they run that would fit my description. Dear All,

Is there any implication using yourself as self-funding if you have the relevant statement of account to back it up?

Especially where the school does not offer any funding or assistantship.

What are the chances of success with a VO?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by jojoey: 3:00pm On Jun 09, 2021
Guruindahouse:
I saw your thread from Study in Australia thread but i will give you few advice.

My friend told me that before Donald Trump left office, he had changed alot of student visas to the extent that it is almost impossible to get work visa after studies unless someone studied Space Engineering or Aeronautics. I am not sure about this but do your research.

Another thing is that, If you are still single, ofcourse, USA is not a bad idea since you can find a good girl while studying to settle down with after your studies.

Check Canada out also.
All the best.
I will need to ask you some questions about Aussie. Can I send you a pm?
This is not entirely true if you get a job in tech after studying, and a course like business analytics almost guarantees you a job after school, your organization will file all the necessary documents for you, including your green card.

Hello All,

I did my visa interview today at the Lagos embassy and was denied. The reason was because the VO said there is no proof that I got a tuition waiver from my school but I showed her where it was written on the I-20 but she said it’s not enough proof. I attack the I-20 screenshot below.

Transcript
VO: Good Morning. Pass me your I-20 and passport.
VO: Why are you going to the USA
Me: I’m going to the USA for my masters in Industrial Engineering at LSU
VO: Why LSU
Me: After I completed my GRE exam, I went online to look for universities that offer admission for Ms in industrial engineering and LSU was part of the universities that came up in the search. I emailed the departmental coordinator with my credentials and she gave a promising reply and went far as saying I can merit a tuition waiver from the graduate school with my credentials which I was later awarded.

—That is where the problem started, the VO said she can’t see any tuition waiver award on my I-20 but I told her it’s right there under the remarks with a ** and she said no.

Then I brought out a printout of the email from the graduate school where they gave the tuition waiver award and she said that is still not enough evidence and she will be denying my visa.

Normally total cost of attendance is $47,600 but with my tuition waiver it’s $22100. But yet this VO is not taking it.

Please help me guys, I am trying to reapply, could you please advise on what need to be done?

I just emailed the department coordinator, graduate school, and ISO office to notify them about this and request an official letter of the tuition waiver award but no reply yet coz I think it’s still very early in USA.

Please advise on what I can do about this.

Also:
What process do I need to take to reapply for my visa? Do I need to fill in another DS-160? Could some help with a high level view of how I need to reapply for appointment because I am trying to reapply today ASAP to get a date sooner.

Chai, she was denied today after the following transcripts as at 7am this morning :

VO: Which school are you going to?

She: I am going to xyz college.

VO: What course are you going to study?

She: am going to study Health Science.

Typing...... Gave out blue paper. Tell her to reapply.

Could it be that the late Sevis that she just paid yesterday or what? Please help

And you think you need response that could help her while you are hiding the school she is going to... I don't know why people start this hiding of information. It is well.

I think it’s luck coz I saw a guy transcript where he presented his email as proof of his funding and the VO accepted that.

I don’t know why she did not accept my own email proof. Well I’ll try again.

I still have question that no one answered yet:

—Since nothing will change on my DS-160, do I still need to fill a new DS-160 to be able to apply for a new appointment OR I should just proceed to apply for visa appointment using my previous DS-160 confirmation number?

I think you need to fill a new one so to put the new ds confirmation number in your visa appointment page..
You can still maintain all the information..

Just went through the i20. The funding wasnt included. So the VO was very correct. If you can, request for another i20 before reapplying. Because if you reapply with this same i20 you might get same result.

I have never been to the embassy for F-1 visa before but from reading so my transcript here, I personally think you brought that followup question to yourself. There was no need for that (the bolded statement) instead you would have told her how what LSU was offering aligned with your interest..

Anyways, Best of luck on your next interview. Just pray for grace and favour in the sight of the VO. There is nothing God cannot do.

Are you looking for a funded MSc/PhD position in Canada?

These Profs (at Western University) are seeking students for specific research projects.

The list is not exhaustive, so you can "cold email" other Profs there.

Bro, i am talking from what one of my friends experienced just last year in USA. He studied MSc in Biochemistry, and he didn't get any job. He is searching for a girl to marry now. That was the information my friend gave me.
jojoey:

This is not entirely true if you get a job in tech after studying, and a course like business analytics almost guarantees you a job after school, your organization will file all the necessary documents for you, including your green card.

Good morning NL

Please my friend has a situation and needs help.

She has a funding of 30k and a deficit of 13k
She was denied visa 1st of June and wants to reapply.
Please is it advisable for her to make changes to her DS 160? In her first attempt, she filled the school as the sponsor and her actual course of the study.
Now she's not sure whether to leave the school as the sponsor or use her guardian who will be covering the deficit.
She's also not sure whether to change the course to the one on her I-20 or leave it as the one she initially filled.

Please kindly help.

Thank you.

Yes!! He can fill the name of his guidance as his or her sponsor now and evict school sponsoring him already. The ignorance part is that he or she wasn’t fully funded as that is when you can select your school been responsible fir your educations but if you have any deficit your parents or a family fund like uncle , Aunty etc will be responsible for that.

My sister, I can tell you that he is tired and drained after he got his PhD. He recently graduated actually, and he had applied to everywhere in USA, pharma, manufacturing companies, universities and etc. He is going through alot, and that's the reason he is considering that option. He will be fine, I think.
This is the reason why I personally dropped the idea of studying phd in USA. If you are not into IT or medical sciences in USA, someone can really get frustrated.

Pls if you have any reliable contact in Australia, pls kindly link me up. I just want to know courses that can quickly lead to PR. Guys on Aussie thread are not replying o.

I think you need to fill a new one so to put the new ds confirmation number in your visa appointment page..
You can still maintain all the information..

Thank you.

You need to fill a new one.
Just retrieve this and get a new DS160 code.
Shadomaan7:

I think it’s luck coz I saw a guy transcript where he presented his email as proof of his funding and the VO accepted that.

I don’t know why she did not accept my own email proof. Well I’ll try again.

I still have question that no one answered yet:

—Since nothing will change on my DS-160, do I still need to fill a new DS-160 to be able to apply for a new appointment OR I should just proceed to apply for visa appointment using my previous DS-160 confirmation number?
