Dear Scholars on this forum,
Please help me clarify this, I received a GA of $21k leaving a deficit of $4k. The deficit on my I-20 indicates personal funds which I actually have well covered since I’ve worked in a good firm for sometime now. I see most people use their family or relatives to cover their deficit. Hope this won’t be an issue that I used personal funds?

No. It doesn’t matter in as much you can afford or pay for your deficit. Go ahead and get your visa approval.

Good evening all.
Please my wife interview F2 visa interview is coming up this month but we have issue with her name

The name on her passport is her maiden name and that was what was used to prepare her I-20. But she has done change of name and she filled her new name on ds-160. Please I hope this will not cause any problem.

I mailed the international office to change her name to her new name but they said the policy is that they should use only verified names and names are verified through passport.

Hello house, kindly help me in reviewing my transcript. I have posted it somedays ago but the few people who reviewed it said my responses to the questions are so long. So I have made adjustments to my responses.

ME: Good morning Sir/Ma

CONSULAR: Good morning

Hi, Your wife should fill a new DS-160. I-20s are issued by the US immigration and not the School and they work with your international passport data. If she wants her new name she should get a new passport with her new name.

If you're newly married, she can explain that the passport validity is why she hasn't changed her name, that's if she's even asked. All the best

Wow, Congratulations to all those who were approved.

From observation, it seems the rate of F1 approval this fall 2021 is kind of high compared to previous entry years.

I believe President Biden has some influence on this, and I am happy America is a viable option now.

Left to me, these people shouldn’t bother sharing their transcripts if they intend leaving out important information such as name of uni, how they got funding etc.

All this xgx , dry, wpc transcript are annoying.

I am okay with one being discrete about their profession, company name etc. Few years ago when I began this journey, I skimmed through from part 1; page 1 to the most recent post, I could barely see anyone being discrete with name of schools or amount of funding. It was a thorough and insightful transcripts all round. This platform is beyond any form of self-centeredness; I refer lot of people to this platform each time my old pals reach out for student visa or travel guidance. I hope he realized that the journey is beyond getting visa.

What ever name on her passport is the name she should fill in DS 160 then in the space for "other names you are known by" she should add your name.

"Guidance" being the operative word. Most people asking for names of schools, amount of funding etc., are not looking for guidance, they are simply too lazy to do their own research so they come here, hoping to just crib off someone else. If you were here for guidance, you don't need name of school, the process is more than enough. What did folks do before Nairaland existed?

Passport, I-20 and DS-160 forms are all immigration documents, you absolutely need to maintain the same name across all three to avoid unnecessary hassle. The easiest thing would be to fill out another DS-160 form and use her maiden name all through.

Just curious, what is wrong with getting schools with good funding from Nairaland? I would argue exploring all 16 parts of this thread either for interview transcript or finding good schools is also a form of research and due diligence.

My thoughts exactly. This thread as i understand it to be from the title is primarily about guidance on ways to prepare for your f-1 visa interview. Other info are secondary and can be mainly acquired from your own personal research. But for interview transcripts, i doubt whether you can get them abundantly elsewhere as here.

Emphasis should be on the transcripts so people can learn what red flags to avoid as well as as to give encouragement to people in similar situation. Nobody should be castigated for sharing or not, their name of school or funding details.

If you need further information, reach out to the fellow or better still, be diligent enough to do your own reearch.

rehearse your statement of purpose. Also, try to come up with a coherent research proposal with good research questions, and most importantly a research area that is virgin and suits the project of the faculty members. Lastly , study the overview of the intending course, why USA and that particular school, and write out questions you will also ask them at the end.

Hello All,

I did my visa interview today at the Lagos embassy and was denied. The reason was because the VO said there is no proof that I got a tuition waiver from my school but I showed her where it was written on the I-20 but she said it’s not enough proof. I attack the I-20 screenshot below.

Transcript
VO: Good Morning. Pass me your I-20 and passport.
VO: Why are you going to the USA
Me: I’m going to the USA for my masters in Industrial Engineering at LSU
VO: Why LSU
Me: After I completed my GRE exam, I went online to look for universities that offer admission for Ms in industrial engineering and LSU was part of the universities that came up in the search. I emailed the departmental coordinator with my credentials and she gave a promising reply and went far as saying I can merit a tuition waiver from the graduate school with my credentials which I was later awarded.

—That is where the problem started, the VO said she can’t see any tuition waiver award on my I-20 but I told her it’s right there under the remarks with a ** and she said no.

Then I brought out a printout of the email from the graduate school where they gave the tuition waiver award and she said that is still not enough evidence and she will be denying my visa.

Normally total cost of attendance is $47,600 but with my tuition waiver it’s $22100. But yet this VO is not taking it.

Please help me guys, I am trying to reapply, could you please advise on what need to be done?

I just emailed the department coordinator, graduate school, and ISO office to notify them about this and request an official letter of the tuition waiver award but no reply yet coz I think it’s still very early in USA.

Please advise on what I can do about this.

Also:
What process do I need to take to reapply for my visa? Do I need to fill in another DS-160? Could some help with a high level view of how I need to reapply for appointment because I am trying to reapply today ASAP to get a date sooner.

Truly, a critical look at the screenshot of your i20 shows nothing about the funding/tuition waiver. You will need the school to prepare another i20 for you which will show that the COA=$47600 and *funding from school/tuition waiver=$22100*, family fund=$25500.
Without the asterisked part spelt out on your i20, the VO will not believe your story and the proof from your email. The school should give the proper breakdown on your i20, if truly you have the tuition waiver.
