DedeNkem: A big lie without showing any evidence. I know buildings paying as much as 20million naira per month. Big Malls pay above 30m per month. Now we are talking about OAU campus with thousands of AC units, sewage and water treatment plants, student hostels housing thousands of students using hotplates and pressing irons and a lot of staff residential quarters. And people have even stated here that they have about 70-80% availability. Offices that have their own transformer and have 70-80% availability, do you have an idea of how much they pay monthly? Find out pls. Then extrapolate their size to OAU's. To set up a solar power system that can comfortably carry just one (1) 2HP AC, you'll be spending more than a million naira. Even with the advantage of economy of scale, the amount you mentioned cannot set up a solar power system for the power requirements of a big campus like OAU. Btw, 80million naira is just 195,000 dollars. |

2 million on Diesel? That is not true! In fact I spends more than 1 million on Diesel every month let alone a whole OAU, beside the OAU i know does not have stable electricity so this news is fake OAU should be spending nothing less than 100 million on diesel every month 1 Like |

agabusta:Dont mind that poster he doesn’t know anything 2 billion Naira solar project can not power OAU INFACT SOlar is the most expensive source of electricity in Africa where solar Panel and batteries are too expensive The worse is you have to replace the battery every 2 years and that would cost you another 80% of the amount you bought it 2 Likes 1 Share |

mecussey: Is the power requirements of OAU 300KW? The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) 8.03MW power project for the supply of electricity to the University is on-going and almost completed. Even though the above may be overdimensioned to account for expansion and possibly supply to neighbouring communities, OAU power consumption can never be as meagre as 300KW. 300KW is roughly 375KVA. So you are saying a 375KVA gen can power the whole campus of OAU? This is a joke right? Then also tell me what you mean by 20yrs lifespan. The batteries included? Smh |

The man is right. The campus is metered and it is being read for billing so there is no way he can collect more than the amount billed. Also we know student will always use electrical appliances that consumes power and judging by the size of the school, it's very possible. Afe Babalola University is paying more than 20million, this is a school where the student are not using electric cooker o. So the 80m claim might be right. Although we can't trust ourselves in Nigeria |

uuzba:hmmm nawa oooo... privatization of these tertiary institutions will be the best but what of the poor that wouldn't be able to afford it...coz it's glaring that government is giving too little concern to educational sector...this is what happens when we have President that doesn't pass through school... so he is less concerned coz is not attending university that made him a President today... 1 Like |

awoo47:I have been trying to decode the billing. A month is = 30days~ So therefore; Cut out NEPA entirely. Spend at max 1,000,000N on diesel for each day. Which is = 1,000,000 x 30 days = 30,000,000+/- Do you know how much is 80M? NB: maintenance is another separate bill. |

RioCarputo:That is it. To be a big man in Nigeria is by gun & gra-gra, anyhow behaviour. The only time it can begin to work is if graduates and other educated people can develop systems that will provide: 1. Security (without this one nothing can work) 2. Water, food, shelter and power... 3. Production company, making anything exportable for Nigeria's GDP and $$$ foreign exchange. - It can be food, or technology. -- In America, they first started by everybody carrying guns. Nobody can try any nonsense. I blow your head. Once everybody understood that one, all forms of madness cooled down. Graduates can only perform when everywhere is cool. As long as everywhere is upside-down, graduates cannot arrange it properly and perform. -- In the absence of that, Buhari and leaders will never be interested in Education and will keep cutting lecturers' salaries. Universities will just be suffering and lecturers complaining every year. I graduated 2002, na before my time, dem don dey complain, till now, for more than 30 years. 1 Like |

agabusta: If you had read well, you will see @ aiming 1mw for half a billion in my write up. Now, tell me what are they consuming to be requesting for 8.03mw. What are they producing, If not consumption only? Consuming 8mw without producing anything is a waste of energy. They should not use more than 1mw of electricity. However, if they must use 8mw, why will they pay 1B Naira a yr. Australia built 50mw of solar power with $20m. Who is deceiving who? Well, Australia is Australia and UAR is UAR |

jte author=Kingluqman post=102559997]Great Ife!!! Truly, light na 24/7 for inside campus. The campus night life is top notch but spending that much na lori iro[/quote] It's actually possible, but he didn't break it down that OAU has a powerhouse where people with shops on campus pay and also those who stay in quarters also make make payments to buy units of electricity....everything is metered. So to guess they make a huge chunk of the money already from commercializing it. There's the Buka, the new market, those that make photocopies in academics, those that stay in quarters, maintenance hostel etc. So it's not like the whole 80m is actually sourced for from the University's purse. I don't know the status of things on campus now but for the generators, they only power the Senate building back then and the street lights. Don't know about now. |
