Good evening guys, I need your advice on this: I am pressured by my family not to travel to Taraba state for job due to various news about insurgency whereas I served there. My parent don't want me to leave and I find it difficult to stay at home please i need your suggestions..

Being a man is taking a decision and standing by it. I didn't go back home after service. In hindsight, it was the best decision I made. It's a starting points, but tomorrow brings much better.

You are not going to be in Taraba forever, go and get the job but be fervent in prayer to avoid the unforeseen circumstances.

It is too risky not to take a risk and if at all you take the risk, take a Godly risk and God will back you.

Op listen good, ignore those telling you how they are succeeding or succeeded in the north coz i am very certain they are all muslims or in skme ways tribally or culturally close to them. I did my secondary school in a place where not a single xtian reside and I wouldn't wish my experience on my enemy meanwhile my cousin who was a muslim had a much better experience. Muslims are somewhat cruel and hnkind towards the other religion, it gets worse when tribalism sets jn.
Liar. Where in the north? By the way, Taraba State has more Christians, even their governors are always Christians.

Who in their right senses goes up north in the face of this insecurity? What sort of job is in Taraba you want to risk your life for?

Biko sit yourself at home while you apply for jobs and learn skills. Up north ko, taraba ni

Don't mind this guy who lives in the 15th century. I think it is better to consider the opinions of people who advised you based on objectivity and/or experience.
Anybody who has adviced OP was an ex corp member who stay in the North less than 3years, i am not after the security situation of the North, but economy, the North is not a place for a young graduate.... Life is more than cheap which is no longer cheap in the North. Coming from someone who has stayed more than 25 years in the North.

This is not true.
Tell me one state in the North aside Kano Jos and Kaduna that have 5 medium scale companies.
Even in those private companies you will see the true defination of tribalism, don't stay in Lagos and predict what is happening in the North, ask someone that have spent atleast 20years in the North.

Working in Taraba is ok. But don't just put fear in yourself. Believe that nothing will happen to you.

Don't listen to your parents bro. Go and secure the job asap.

I served in Ogun, ibafo precisely. I had alot of opportunities to secure a job there, but my mum insisted I must come back to East. I got a teaching job in the East but the pay wasn't ok. I had to move down to Abj to join my friend in POS business, I started mine but I was robbed of all my savings. Currently doing nothing now and patiently waiting for the day I will rest in peace.

I can't take it no more.

Don't do anything funny bro. You have God who listens to prayers.
I don't know if you are a Christian; just be silent before him everytime you pray and he will guide you!

Some people like u believed that all the northern states are not safe, but I can assure 100% that Kano, taraba, gombe, jigawa and bauchi are lot safer than all the states u consider safe. Night life in Kano is second to none, cheap foods, cheap houses and even cheap transportation. Security is 80%
Hahaha baba you too dey jump into conclusion, I served in Lafia in 2017/2018, I traveled to few northern states like Kaduna, kano, sokoto, jos, Niger just to mention few...Nigeria was safer then, I won't advise the bro to go on a suicide mission, unless he's planning to fly. Do you know how dangerous the roads are lately? Haha.. I don't even live in the country anymore but northern part of the country isn't safe lately.. Its better to safe than sorry...

OP,
If you like Taraba state, the people and their culture, and you're sure of getting job in the state, I think you should consider going there.

One thing people don't know is that, getting a nice job in the Northern part of the country is much more easier than any part of the country.

Of a truth, the place of insecurity can not be overemphasized, but then I don't think safety is guaranteed (to a very large extent) in any part of the country presently.

I had my NYSC on the Plateau, Jos precisely. I was advised to stay back by my employer, I was able to convince my parents and they agreed. And I can say that decision is one of the best I've made in the last decade.

I will just advise you @OP, to channel your job search to the state capital, the state capitals in the North are always safe, at least to some extent.

Another thing is, they don't employ you based on the class you graduated with, it's none of their business, since you're good at what you do and you can deliver, you're good to go.

Most importantly, pray about it, let God direct and order your steps. You're more safer than save.

Selah.
l'm currently in Plateau but outside of Jos where I finished service late last year. I would really love to move to Jos if I can get job opportunity. Please could you be of help in any way

I am not trying to discourage you but the North is not where you wil hustle, forget the cheap food in the North, you will look at your life in the next 10years and find out that you are in same level.
The lifestyle of the Northerners made it that way.

How! Can you please expatiate?

Cost of living is cheaper in the north compared to any other part of the country.... And the north is the best place for a young graduate wanting to start a business.

Same with Kano state, I can't wait to be done with school so I can return to Kano

I laugh when I see people on this platform taunt the North for her insecurity issues like the south does not face her own fair share of it, it took me moving to Lagos to realize that Kano and in fact most Northern states are way better than whatever you could get down south
exactly, bro

And the cost of living is low. It made me save a lot when I worked in Lafia. Honestly if not for insecurity when travelling there, most northern cities are chilled.
you are right. I love this place coupled with the 24v hours electricity in the capital. Although I am planning to relocate back to the south soon.

People die even at their doorsteps. The victims of Igangan (RIP) didn't leave their home & death still had its way. Just try to convince your parents & have their prayers. If they insist, don't go against their words, please, so the daily thought of your safety won't send any to early grave.

Good luck, bro!
