Abagworo:Umungasi can no longer be called a village, it's in Aba close to brass junction. The guy is building a mall/super market (Uhuru mall) around that axis, and he is doing the connecting roads to join. Another diaspora guy is doing almost same at etche road (a strip mall and it's surrounding roads). Hopefully this trend gets better and better. Michael Emenalo the former Chelsea is from umule in Aba, but someone with such pedigree has no tangible investment back home.Imqgine the connections and ideas someone of that nature can bring back home? 2 Likes |

horsepower102: Electricity is just about 20% of the reason cities in the south-east don't have a skyline marked with highrises! Anyone saying otherwise is either being evasive or not in the know of the real reason! To start seeing highrises over 10 stories and skyscrapers in the south-east, the status-quo has to change....either TOTAL restructuring of the polity in Nigeria, or a independent Alaigbo or Biafra! 1 Like |

IGBOSON1: I agree with everything you said except for the 20% that you gave for electricity. To me, Electricity is 60% Lack of major steel industry is 20% then, lack of supporting infrastructures like good roads, sewage system etc is the remaining 20% |

This is an interesting topic,I must commend everybody for his/her contribution towards the developer of ala Igbo.. But while going through the comments I realized that there are major development factors we may have not touched here.. Factors like sewage tunnels to control floods and erosion, especially in places like aba abia state where floods and erosion are reeking havoc.. Underground tunnel supposed to be the first planning in every developing cities so that there will be less damages in building it, rather than waiting after there are major development like buildings... Another factor is channeling or piping of water across the cities, because we can't keep depending on bore holes and over head tanks as source of water, all these stuffs are to be done first before total building up of cities to avoid destruction of buildings on the process... 3 Likes |

horsepower102:we have a vibrant steel industry in the East now (inner galaxy) they are into production of steel beams and truces .There are insinuations that the did the Anambra airport roofing, but I know for a fact that the are doing steel construction work in a cement factory up North. 1 Like |

eduj: Trust me I know of them. but they need to increase their capacity massively because once people start building high-rises all over the south east, their current operation will be so tiny to sustain demand for steel. I think the owner should open up shares to his company so that people like me and you can fund his expansion. Their operation in my opinion is very small and will not sustain future demands. |
Re: Rapid Urbanization And Expansion Of SE Cities by horsepower102: 12:02am On Jun 14, 2021 |
Brimstone77: You made very good points. This is why the south east desperately needs a development bank to finance all these infrastructures. I mentioned SEFCO which is currently planned by SEREDEC. If something like than can come to fruition, it will help in building all the major critical infrastructures that we are lacking. I trust that the diaspora will buy lots of shares in such company to help with their development aims. |

mrvitalis: This is why I'm not happy with ndigbo and kanu. Ndigbo have left all our planning for kanu. Kanu is planning our defense, planning our future, planning everything. Kanu is just one man. How can over 30million people leave just one man to do the planning? Doesn't make sense to me |

Brimstone77:well said the sewage connection is bad during Sullivan regime in Enugu he really tried in doing so I think Abia state needs a visionary leader who can do so in is state or we need Biafra another thing is "touristy" we have not greated or done something about this is lacking behind |

Igboid: My point remains that division usually seems an easy solution but not always the best. You can learn that from divided businesses and families. Division comes as a last resort. @bolded those who were benefitting from Okorocha are still benefiting. I and Okorocha are almost financially equal so he cannot do much for me. I supported him cause he was a good Governor and nothing more. |

Abagworo: I have been one of your great fan here on Nairaland cos of your unbiased views in things about igboland despite your mom (having Roots from Ekepye).. Its interesting to know that you aren't really financially down like somepipo think you are! Thumbs up for that But hope you aren't doing against what we are all preaching against here, by investing away from home? I believe if you have such riches, you should also in your little way, be doing the things you can for the better growth of alaigbo. Rich regards... |

Abagworo: Lol! Nigeria is not a family. There is no way Ndiigbo are family with Yorubas and Fulanis/Hausa. On the business part. Infact cutting off bad business partners is essential part of business growth if you don't want the business to crash. 2 Likes |
