I wish owerri city gets a 15storey building soon, that would be sold out, in order to encourage other investors of the opportunities abound in the city.

I'm surprised that investors have not really discovered the gold mine in accommodation Owerri offers. I'm not talking about building of one or two storey houses for rental, I mean penthouses for residential appartments. In Nigeria, after Abuja, Lagos, and P.H, Owerri comes next in terms of rent costs, same with land costs. There are lots of rich individuals who for some reasons may not want to live outside Igboland if they can have decent environment to live in within the SE.

Solar has become increasingly more efficient and a lot cheaper, investors can build 10 or more storey serviced apartments in good and well secure locations and power the lifts with solar to cut maintenance costs. If people can pay up to 800k for annual rent in substandard flats, there are equally those who wouldn't mind paying 1.2 to 1.5 million annually for a highrise serviced penthouse. Once any bold investor takes the initiative, others would follow!

owerri has the highest number of 6-8 storey buildings in the East and they are still building more. Best thing roachas did was to massively expand the roads in owerri it gives room to add modern amenities when the time comes.

Yes, that's true. However, they're all hotels! It would be great to see residential and office apartments that are high-rises! It gives a perception of greatness to any city.

I also agree that Rochas did well by expanding roads and moving open air markets to the city suburbs but building substandard flyovers, roads and tunnels that wasted billions of Imo State money is unforgivable.

The current governor for whatever reasons known to him decided to return Eke Onuwa to Douglas road when he should have insisted that traders must move to those markets in the suburbs. How can you build modern cities when unsightly open air markets with its attendant rowdiness and refuse accumulation are sited in the middle of town?! That's a good example of how mediocre governors are holding Imo State back.

Returing the market to Douglas isn't a bad idea if he can put up a world class open air market (like we have in Dubai and china)- it will serve as a tourist draw also.
But if the plan it to put up a story little shops like is common in Nigeria, then it's a no.
About the flyovers , don't really know why successive governments have failed to repair it or bring it down. It's an icon of shame. Rochas built too many inferior roads don't truly know why

They're almost done with building what looks like a kitchen line! What they're building there is even worse than how Eke Onuwa was!

Only the most mediocre and wicked soul who doesn't want Owerri to modernize will allow that nonsense.

I hope that the ongoing high-rise building at okigwe road turns out to be mixed used building, it success will spur massive redevelopment of properties along wetheral road and bank road starting from Rochas plaza.
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Nobody: 4:54pm On Jun 15, 2021
The reconstruction of owerri-okigwe road has reached amaraku junction section

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Nobody: 5:51pm On Jun 15, 2021
Yeah... Owerri does need that and I think Owerri will be the first skyscraper city in in South East as soon as their power projects are completed. I really love that town

Of course, Igbos in general build high rise it's just skyscraper that's remaining although I've seen 15 stories in SE. Owerri has to be the next big skyscraper city in Nigeria if you consider the gas project and the hospitality status. This building is in SE and it's nice

Lol.

One can even count in one hand how many high rise buildings there are in London, Paris or Barcelona. Very few. And these are cities that started building for over 500 years.
What is the obsession in some people with high rise buildings in Owerri, in Imo state where no other place outside Owerri has common drainage systems, good roads or sustainable water supply projects? Pls don't quote me take ur stupidity elsewhere we are not on same page
If Rochas Okorocha continued as governor through his son-in-law, he would have bent to pressure and built high rise buildings in Owerri. Next governor will pull them down because of quack work, and they are not necessary for now.

Another good news

Okigwe the beautiful hill city must be accessed easily, expand and modernize. Same for Orlu, to stop population influx to Owerri. Public water supply, tertiary education institutions, industries, markets develop and expand a city, not by government putting most of the funds meant for development of a state to develop state capital alone.

If Okigwe and Orlu become modern cities, who will live in the skyscrapers some people are calling for in Owerri? No investor will build high rise buildings in Owerri for decoration purposes.

Planned should not be the word, rather developed should be used.
Owerri city is better planned, and has more ambience than Lusaka, but Lusaka is far more developed than owerri, by merely looking at the skyline of the city.
I agree on the development part that you are trying to illustrate, we all hope that owerri city gets to Lusaka level of development in due time

Abuja is federal capital territory which is treated like a state of its own.
Owerri is part of Imo state.

You are poorly educated.

Owerri is not a state of its own in Imo state; a well educated governor of Imo state needs to lay more emphasis on infrastructure for the other urban areas in Imo state but maintain what already exists in Owerri. But for lousy and primitive people in a part of Imo state, Imo governors must ignore urban development infrastructures in the other urban areas of Imo state, but pump all government funds into making Owerri look like London overnight.
Methinks, some of you from Owerri like to have a continuation of Rochas Okorocha’s style where more than 90% devt infrastructures of his government in 8 years were built in Owerri. Okorocha was trying to use what he was building in Owerri for his campaign to become president of Nigeria.

Yet your intellect did not tell you governor of Imo State can appoint a commissioner for State Capital Territory. Does you Abuja not of the shit hole called Nigeria. I guess logic or lack thereof seemed to be the benign of progress in Nigeria.

Such buildings are capital intensive, we just need one good high rise building that's mixed used, which was sold out, this will give investors the conviction to invest in such venture.

I don't have the list of names of communities affected.
But the good news is that there will be increased revenues due to recovered oil wells.

Oil wells located in communities recovered, you can't recover oils without the communities that it's domiciled in.

I know the oil wells are located in communities and the affected communities are recovered by Imo State but i do not know the number of communities recovered.

I am just trying to understand the basis or reasons you used to know that the number of communities recovered is 21. Did you just guess it is 21 communities.

Sorry for my inquisitiveness

I think in one interview I read which featured Opiah he made mention of about 21 communities, I search for that and make it available to you.
