Trying not to get carried away by the comfort In bank A

But what you desire in BANK B is not certain! Am a risk taker but i think this is not looking good; considering the outlook of this country.

I will ask that you continue with BANK A, since its not certain BANK B will give you exactly what you wanted.

Stay with BANK A, take courses, acquired more certification, and PRAY..

You are young. You will GROW!!!

Oga you won come accessbank wey go use you and your destiny join just becos of nonsense car that they use to tie down their staff like slaves. Accessbank is not a good bank to work cos you will end up doing 3 peoples job alone. They use people like slaves in that bank. Pls beware and stay put where you are.

Hi guys,

Pls I need the advice of the public here.
I have been an ET with bank A for about 20 months now at the bank’s head office in a department I don’t like and that doesn’t have a career path. So I’d basically be doing the same thing for years to come. The pay is basically 200k which is quite comfortable monthly. I have tried changing departments within the bank all to no avail. I want to leave the Dept asap so I don’t get stuck there due to age. I’d be 25 later this year.

I started the Entry level recruitment for Bank B a month ago, maybe to start again as an ET probably in a better department with a better career outlook. Right now, I am almost into Bank B’s training school. Bank B pays lower than Bank A, but comes with better perks such as a car. But I’m worried about having to start again and lose 20 months of work experience. The issue is I’d have to be in Training school for some months and collect about 25% of my current salary monthly until TS is over. Also, I don’t know what Dept I’d be posted to assuming I take the Bank B job offer.

What advise can you give me pls?? Also note both banks are in the top four banks in the country.

Should i remain in Bank A and keep trying a change of department or a change of Bank as an experienced hire which is a very slim chance

Or

I take the ET job and start all over from Training school in bank B

From the way you have explained it’s like you want to move to ACCESS BANK, my advise for you is to stay where you are and keep growing, I once worked at UBA and one thing on your letter is that they would post you to any department they feel you can work and remember 20months in a place is experience, if you are supposed to be due for promotion in 2 months you would have to start counting again from the new place, if you move because of this what happens if you don’t get your desired department again, you get stucked and then start again?

I will advise you stay with bank A since their pay is higher thank Bank B and the only reason is department, still having no idea if you would end up in same dept in bank B....

On the flip side, I need a job, vacancy no de even for IT in your bank? Am a graduate with no job, even na the bank security self. Help my career abeg

At the end of the day, it is your choice chief. I am an explorer and a risk taker. I can't even survive a job I don't enjoy doing for 6 months.
There are other people who would stick to bank A due to FOMO and that's fine too.
From the little you typed, you sound pretty much smart enough to always get back on your feet.
I'd say ditch the job you don't like and find a new path MIGHT enjoy. What's 20 months to spending another 48 - 60 months doing something you don't like? That's the origin of frustration and depression.

Like I said, it's still your choice to make if you are a FOMO or an explorer.

Best!

To earn 25 percent of your income is something I'd really advice against. Better offers will come in the future, your 1.5 years of experience will go a long way in helping secure your desired position.

What's ET?

You have not worked for up to 2yrs and already complaining, the problem with most of these millennials is that you aren't patience.
if you keep changing jobs at this rate the next set of employers will see you as a non loyal employee.
You are just a young blood for goodness sake, don't be over ambitious

This is a great thread full of wisdom.
I work as an IT Officer in a Microfinance Bank for 4years now. I really want to improve more on myself and quit for a better opportunity. I'm the ATM Custodian, was trained by Interswitch for that . Also I will be inducted as a member of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) this August.
Preparing to go for a training on Mobile Banking next month. But after all these , I see myself been stocked in a particular position in the bank with low pay. I started as a Cashier before moving to IT department, Please I need an advice on the way forward , If there is a particular certification I should embark on please let me know.
