Are this mods literate?

Mods want to slow Seun down. They are not doing him any favors by slowing view counts. They censor the conversation and the revenue. Nairaland has become very critical at this time, these mods will only limit its influence. They do not understand the time and cannot respond to it appropriately.

Oba Erediauwa of Benin, in his book: I Remain, Sir, Your Obedient Servant, corroborate the above assertion, when he affirmed that “the Onitsha indigene (i.e. the native Onitsha Division) would frown if you called him or her Igbo. He is an “Onitsha man or woman” and would refer to all others as “those Igbo people.” This distinction is easily understandable having regard to the facts of history which tells us that the natives of the present-day Onitsha town migrated from the ancient Benin Kingdom.

Nnamdi Azikiwe, in My Odyssey, An Autobiography, affirms that “in tracing my paternal lineage, I could say that both parents of my father are direct descendants of Eze Chima”. As for his maternal ancestry, Azikiwe is “the first son of Nwanonaku Rachel Chinwe Ogbenyeanu (Aghadiuno) Azikiwe, who was the third daughter of Aghadiuno Ajie, the fifth son of Onowu Agbani, first daughter of Obi Udokwu, the son who descended from five kings of Onitsha. Five of these rulers of Onitsha were direct lineal descendants of Eze Chima, who led his warrior adventurers when they left Benin to establish the Onitsha city-state, in about 1748 AD.”
+++
The meaning of the word Onitsha
Azikiwe further went on to narrate his knowledge of the origin of Onitsha as told by his grandmother thus:
As grandmother found me a willing listener, she used to enjoy entertaining me with stories relating to the early history of Onitsha. One day, I asked her the meaning of the word ‘Onitsha’. She explained that it had historical significance. The terminology meant one who despised another. It is a contraction of two words, Onini (to despise) and Ncha (others). So that the two words when joined together mean one who despises others.
R.N. Henderson conciselyfurther explains this attitude to non-Onitsha Igbos when he asserted that both Nri and Onitsha people employed the succinct proverb “igbo have no king” (igbo enwegh eze) to set their neighbors apart from themselves. Onitsha people refer to ndi-gbo as “those who do not wash”, alluding to the traditional custom in the uplands of rubbing the body with palm oil as an aromatic, odor-masking substitute for bathing.

As an example out of hundreds…. the prime minister of the Asaba Kingdom is the IYASELE. The prime minister of The Benin kingdom is the IYASERE.
On a serious note. Ok let’s agree Ibusa was settled by Igbos and Asaba by Binis…

Enechi
I’ve read that account. I have friends from Ibusa and will refrain from further comments.
Food for thought: Every account of igbo crossing the Niger to found towns includes a calabash which fell down - by divine intervention - Coincidence or just plain old FABU?
It all looks like a romanticization of history.
Talking about Evwreni, for generations, the elders spoke of having migrated from Elele.
A completely unthinkable proposal since at the time, to go from Evwreni to Elele, the only road was through Warri and Asaba and Onitsha.
Didn’t seem plausible until the Warri port harcourt road was created, and it all made sense.
Bottom lineD People know their roots and their traditions. You can’t cancel them.
If they say they’re not Igbos, respect them. If you choose not to, don’t stand perplexed by their antagonism…
You can’t have both.
I rest my case

I can't agree less with Chief Silvan Ebigwei's assertion.
I'm from Ogwashi Uku in Aniocha South LGA of Delta State but I was born and have lived all my life in Lagos. When I was much younger, my mom always correct me that we don't speak the Igbo language but the Ogwashi Uku own. This was strange to me because I could discern that our tongue with the Igbos in Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi states are almost similar. Based on her up bringing, acculturation and idiosyncrasies, she has a bias accepting Igbo as the tribe we come from. Something must have been amiss why this happened which a well written historical background and not oral tradition will help clear the air for our generation and the many more coming after us.
A man like Chief Ebigwei should write a book on the Origin and Culture of the Anioma people in Delta State if he hasn't.

Is not funny that one of the main reasons the Igbo is marginalised is because of a coup headed by two Igbo sons from Okpanam and Onitsha, yet we hear their people say they are not Igbo? Una dey try.

Nnamdi Kanu Has United The Niger Delta People by spearman(m): 3:14pm On Jun 10
The notion of the minority tribe of the Bight of Benin and the Niger Delta forming a federal union as appealing as it has been was always difficult to pursue. The Niger Delta is made up of small nationalities that were easy for the Nigerian state with the help of their two southern neighbors will isolate and destroy any agitation. And so the strategy became to wait for a group like the Yorubas to awaken and make their way out of Nigeria as the Yorubas by language geography and culture formed the most natural country of all those in Nigeria and have been hurt the deepest as their whole territory has been invaded and occupied by all others. So the strategy was that of watch and wait.

And then came Nnamdi Kanu and his map of Biafra. The innitial Niger Delta reaction was to ignore it as it was too insanely preposterous as not to pay it any attention. You see many outside of Igbos never thought anyone was even going to give that hideous map a second look. Not Biafrans. They immediately started salivating at the prospect of Igbo authority over a large expanse of LAND. Niger Deltans were awakened to a full occupation as this expansionist land grab took on a life of its own.

It got worse Kanu screamed and yelled insults all day long to any who dare protest his dictat. Kanu who all along had been seen as an Igbo problem now became a Niger Delta irritant. It was an insult to them to have this strange creature speak for them in such absolute and condescending voice. A lie told often becomes truth seems to be the Igbo strategy here. Though it makes no sense to anyone as to how they think they can manipulate the millions of people that make up the Niger Delta into the Biafran plantation they pessist in this laughable and amateurish schemes.

"What are Biafrans doing in Warri, Ubiaja, Agbor, Asaba, Eket, Uyo, Calbar, Port Harcourt, Ogoni, Yenogoa? What is this madnesses?". And so ended all arguments about strategy and form. Every nationality within the region bonded instantly and resolve to form a united federation in the Niger Delta, come what may.

The Niger Delta have arisen with one voice saying, "We are not Biafra. We have formed a federation of our own. Thank you Nnamdi Kanu for uniting and focusing us. Now run along and leave us alone. Good luck to you and the true South East Biafra. We hope to be good neighbors".

Igbos can claim the credit for creating the Niger Delta Republic. Thank you Nnamdi Kanu.

Igbos might have been a majority in terms of number of people, but when it came to political strength, igbos have been the minority of the minorities.

Igbos should keep quiet when other political entities are speaking.

There was no Igbo nation in the past. If it existed, where was its military?

What territory was its military responsible for protecting?

Without territorial integrity, there is no nation and this historical "no nation" situation was brought about about by the fact that Igbo people did not have it in them to foster political structures beyond the village or clan levels.

That is why you never heard of the igbo military or anything of that sought. But you would hear of many inter-village wars (or inter-clan wars) between Igbo settlements. That was the reach of their capacity to create political units.

So when we ancient kindgoms with dynasties spanning centuries speak, I expect igbos to be quiet. Igbos are the real minorities ethnically, when it comes to things that matter. And maybe that is why they relentlessly misbehave all over Nigeria. Civilisation does not run deep in them hence the complete non-existence of ethnic decorum.
