If there is no infrastructure what would you want to defend and fight for then?
Defending life of citizens comes first. If there are no citizens who will use the infrastructure?
Even the few left can't use it.

You are shifting things, no one is saying countries shouldn't spend on security, Issue was can a country like Nigeria arm itself enough to fend of an attack from the US, once again, the answer is HELL NO. enough said. We arm up to be the neighborhood strong guys, that's about it, other than that let's focus on our people
Who asked the question?

You don't need to be as armed as the US or NATO or Russia. Just give who ever your enemy is a reason to reconsider their actions just as North Korea did with US, same with Iran. That is all that matter.

No nation is as armed as US but they select who they want to go to war with. They will reconsider their actions more than 100 times to engage some country in war, some like 10X and some need no consideration at all.

This is not because US won't win any of them but they also want to avoid losing citizens not even their military personnels.

I'm saying there needs to be a balance btw both.
The convo we were having was can we arm ourselves good enough to deter an attack from a country like the USA, the answer is no, not affordable, on top of that it will take decades to modernize our armed forces etc, why waste all that money when tens of millions of the people are jobless and poor
I completely agree with this.

I would add also add, because of the high number of Nigerian professionals based in the US, it gives us political leverage to lean on. It's sort of it's own deterence.

However we need to be armed enough to deter the likes of France from attacking Nigeria.
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by sizzorchan: 9:33pm On Jun 19, 2021
Isn't that what I've been saying? yessss, they have to consider other aspects of such conflict, we are saying the same thing. I'm tired grin.
But to say we can be armed enough to make the US think twice before attacking us? lol, that's a funny joke, do you have any idea how many billions that we don't have, we would need to spend? grin grin.
Anyways, balance, that's all we are saying here, don't spend grocery money on bullets.

Lol

Arguably I think would apply for Africa in this context of most advanced etcetera factoring in both Egypt and Algeria but definitely the most advanced and equipped in sub-saharan Africa and that includes South Africa and Ethiopia.

We hear Egypt's Rafales have been stripped by France of its software capable of delivering nuclear weapons. Algeria has some potential.
Something is definitely wrong with you.

This is barbaric, why do they have to burn poor peoples property and houses. The police should be arresting and letting courts decide guilt according to the evidence, not being worse than the criminals

Your right, I just don't understand why Kenya makes it's defense purchases secret. There is no reason for a small country like it to do so. It's biggest security challenges are internal, there is zero risk of an external nation aggressor
90% of the so called "classified" information doesn't actually risk anyone's safety. Open and transparent tendering process is the way to go. It even leads to better equipment because of the competitive nature of open tendering with various manufactures trying to outbid each other inorder to get the contract.

Kenya Airforce's QRF did an induction of its new C-145 skytruck multipurpose aircraft. The induction exercise was led by members of the US special forces.
The C-145 is expected to replace the Harbin Y-12 aircraft in Kenya airforce inventory.

This is how serious people induct aircraft not am expensive political campaign styled induction.

Even if we have all these modern war tools but the morale of soldiers are down.. these useless terrorists bh/iswap/fulani herdsmen on motorcycle with locally made guns will give own troops a fatal attack. we have seen it before.
Rise up soldiers.

Today, 21 June, the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO), celebrates World Hydrography Day.

In 1951, RSA joined the IHO as a member and thereafter established the South African Navy Hydrographic Office (SANHO) in 1955.

In 1972 the South African Navy acquired its first purpose-built survey vessel, the then modern Hecla Class SAS PROTEA, which is still commissioned and in use by the South African Navy. Throughout her career, the SAS PROTEA was upgraded and modernised with the latest hydrographic and positioning technologies in order to stay relevant and produce world-class surveys.

Equipped with 2 organic Survey Motor Boats (SMB) and additional SMB in reserve, she and her SMBs are fitted with multibeam echosounders, single beam echosounders, highly accurate global navigation satellite positioning systems, modern commercial off-the-shelf survey acquisition and processing software.

This enables the SAS PROTEA to conduct coastal as well as deep water surveys down to 5 000m. Her SMBs enable her to conduct inshore surveys, as well as harbour and approaches surveys to depths as shallow as 2m.

Since the establishment of SANHO in 1955, it has played an essential role in supporting safe navigation at sea in the South African region. This led to a hydrographic service that is recognised as the best in Africa and also observed globally by the IHO as one of the leading hydrographic services. It is here in Cape Town where hydrographic data and products produced by the SAS PROTEA are further processed in order to render paper as well as Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs).

Not only does the SANHO produce these vital products that are critical for safe navigation around the RSA coast, it also maintains a network of tide gauges around the RSA coast and Namibia monitoring and reporting the state of tides and producing the annual South African Tide Tables publication. Amongst others; the SANHO produces and maintains the following:

● Charts in the National Nautical Chart Series
● International Nautical Chart Series charts for RSA and Namibia,
● ENCs,
● General Bathymetric Charts of the Oceans (GEBCO) charts,
● Various Training Charts and Small Craft Charts,
● Ocean Navigation Plotting Sheets,
● Monthly Notices to Mariners (for the correction of Charts and Publications) as well as 3 volumes of Sailing Directions.

In the 2019/20 Budget, approval was given for the commencement of procurement of a new hydrographic vessel, and accompanying support vessels and technologies. The contract - an international competition - was granted to Southern African Shipyards (SAS) and partners with an 80% local content threshold.

It is expected that the contract will be fulfilled by the fourth quarter of 2022.
PIC 1 is the current SA Navy Hydrographic vessel;

PIC 2 is the new vessel, currently under manufacture in Durban, South Africa.

Just the ticket for them! The rear door makes a huge difference: paradrops are more accurate while casualties and cargo pallets are easier loaded.

If this softcore Civil War was happening in Nigeria with hundreds of civilians & soldiers dying/captured a day the Global media would be having a field day. grin "Nigeria breaking" "Country Collapsed/Failed" "worst military in Africa" "worst country in Africa". It would be never ending. But it's Ethiopia so it's being surprisingly downplayed in global media and Ethiopia despite this conflict with hundreds dying a day and remaing one of the least developed countries in Africa is still for some reason being touted "THE LIGHT OF HOPE IN AFRICA" "AFRICA'S FIRST SUPER POWER IN THE MAKING"! grin

Seriously the God Bless these unfortunate Souls. cry

Nigeria gets more scrutiny because we are an important country.

Whatever happens in Nigeria has the impact to reverberate across the world. This impact is harder if the effects occur in the southern part of Nigeria.

Nigerian Navy Ship NNS Karaduwa on a port visit to Ghana in 2019.

NNS Karaduwa is the first locally built vessel to visit a foreign country.

In Ghana she participated in the International Maritime Defence Conference.

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1:
NNS Karaduwa is 40 meters long, and is armed with a 30mm RCWS , secondary 2 x 12.7mm HMG, 40 mm Grenade launchers, GPMGs and a VBSS team.

Similarly her 45 meters long sister-ship, SDB 3 is currently been outfitted and would be launched in August this year.

After launch of SDB 3, project SDB 4 would commence. I suspect SDB 4 would be mucher larger than SDB 3.

Currently Bureau Veritas, the world's largest ship certification company has been employed to class SDB 3. This should make it easier to export locally built vessels from Nigeria.

Countries such as Cameroun have show serious interest to buy ships from Nigeria.

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 8:10pm On Jun 24, 2021
In case you're wondering, this is SDB 1, NNS Andoni.

Launched in 2012 and equally armed with a 30 mm RCWS, she is 31 meters long and currently serves in the Eastern Naval Command alongside NNS Thunder and NNS Okpabana.

All locally built vessels are expected to serve the navy for a minimum of 35 years.
