Nigeria To Lose Decade Economic Gain Under Buhari – World Bank by Viktom(m): 12:00am On Jun 25, 2021
World Bank report says that Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari will lose the economic gains it made in the last decade at the end of 2021.

“By the end of 2021, Nigeria’s GDP is likely to approach its 2010 level, thus reversing a full decade of economic growth,” the bank in its new report said.

The World Bank’s projection comes as Nigeria strives to recover from the multiple recession that hit the country in 2016 and 2020.

The bank in the report said that there will be a constant decline in the country’s GDP per capita despite recovery from recession, projecting the country’s population to grow faster than its economy.

The bank further forecasted that despite the country’s gradual recovery from the 2020 recession, Nigerians masses will continue to suffer the adverse effect of the economic downturn.

Applauding Mr Buhari for taking bold steps to reform the country’s deteriorating economic condition, the bank advised the government to deepen its recent reforms that allow private sector investment for speedy economic recovery.

Nigeria in 2020 experienced its deepest recession in four decades.

The recession was believed to have been triggered by the economic shutdown occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 that same year.

Controversial fiscal and monetary policies of the Buhari administration and the Central Bank were also largely blamed for the recession.

Similarly in 2016, the country under the Mr Buhari regime plunged into recession, the first time since 1987.

However, the country’s economic growth resumed in the fourth quarter as pandemic restrictions were eased; oil prices rebounded, and the authorities implemented policies to counter the economic shock.

The World Bank reports imply that President Buhari since assuming office in 2015, has failed to positively impact the country’s economy which had suffered two record-breaking recessions under his watch.

If I ever had any doubt before, now it's all gone.
Any hope of maintaining this decline at the current rate is now gone completely. Expect it to start declining at nosediving rate. Only that we don't know how soonest it will crash-land.
God will surely save His.

There's no point complaining about Buhari because if the constitution allows for a 3rd tenure, millions will still vote for him. I only pity his successor for the debt he will inherit.

Nigeria economy did not start declining under Buhari, it started under Jonathan.

I am not saying Jonathan was responsible for the declining economy at the time, everyone with half brain knows what drives our economy since 1975, but people gazette know their readers are lazy, semi - illiterates who cannot do a little research.

When Jonathan took over in 2010, the GDP was over 10% , by 2015 when he left, it was less than 3%. The GDP began to tank immediately the oil prices starts declining in 2014, and the Jonathan government didn't face a quarter of the challenges this government has faced. From the Niger Delta avengers, to oil price declining to $25 and now the covid 19 pandemic.

When will you block heads realize that the performance of Nigeria's economy is directly proportional to oil prices and output?

If you do not have the senses to disprove any of my data or analysis, pls, do not quote me. I do not want to see any brainless slowpoke on my mention. Intelligent people only.

Nigeria is synonymous to retrogression

I have said it Buhari only became the president of Nigeria for 2 main reasons and he has succeeded in them.

Nigerians deserve the kind of leaders they get.
Majority of Nigerians are used to suffering and smiling, come 2032 they will still vote for another oppressor that will inflict more suffering on them.

What happened to the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) the government touted to diversify away from oil dependence? Blaming oil prices on bad economic policies is just a lame excuse undecided. Seriously the plan forecasted 4.5% gdp growth and failed miserably. Covid is the only somewhat reasonable excuse but the economy was stagnant before that. It's unreasonable to absolve this government of the stagnant growth and high inflation being witnessed when they impose all sorts of bans, strong naira policy, multiple exchange rates and which harmed other sectors of the economy. Lastly the failed to make any meaniful reforms which with the saw raising unemployment, inflation and stagnant growth at the same time chief.

ERGP that is still heavily reliant on oil revenue?

Until this government or next succeed in diversifying the economy, we will continue to be at the mercy of that single commodity.
