Please what's the most effective method of dealing with termites? There is a termite Hill on Site

Do whatever you can to get rid of them before roofing. I roofed a site with a termite behind the fence. Those guys finished the treated wood I used to roof the gatehouse. We treated it 2-3 times but they kept coming back.

We let you see the transformation.
Before and after...
Feels good to give quality to a government project of what it didn't have before...

The power to do good is in our hands as Nigerians. Irrespective of the nature of what we do to serve humanity through our various medium/platforms.

If government project can be transformed to this for government at no cost from government. smiley

Read through step by step process of this transformation here...

Good morning, on rare occasions i've seen builders install WC's and wash basins correctly. Why must there be cracking of walls and floors every where? Is it not possible to install both without any obvious sign of tile cracking just a completely neat job?. We shouldn't even be seeing cement or the line of cracks and joints. Thank you.

I guess this pic's what Egunmogaji2 was talking about, done by Muyi and shared here. I did something similar but do not have it's pic and had to save this image for reference purpose.

Since you are building on a budget, adopt what you see on this image and ensure a DPM (what the layman calls polyethylene or leather) is spread on the blocks before the concrete is applied.

A very good friend went through the rigours of doing a German floor but without laying a DPM because he felt the ground was dry and stable. It failed, as one could still see rising damp on certain parts of the building wall.
Wish you speed in your project.

Against the counsel of N3xt & the house I didnt do pillars(sad face)

My foundation concrete was 3" thick

Foundation depth 1ft 6"(hard soil)

Mortar mixture used 1bag of cement, 12heapan of sharp sand ( please is this good enough?)

For the concrete. 1bag of cement, 8 headpan of sharp sand and 7headpan of granite( is this Ok too?)

4 coaches has been achieved and the surrounding roads are lower than the estate. Next stage is filling and German Floor

I have insisted on the german floor, I am being pressed to continue building and do that later

The area is not water logged, please what advantage does the German floor have and why should I do it?

Hmm! I learn from this.
GoodFaith:

You need the German floor done before your continue building
If the building is having problem Like line coming down from the wall (wall crack )
It will not go always to you foundation
If you don't do German floor it will crack always to your foundation

Good morning, fellow nairalanders. Please I am about to start the finishing of this apartment in July. I just want a kind of estimate that could finish the building. The structure of the building is 1 bedroom self contain (5rooms in total). Each of the room has 2 windows.

Soakaway
Abestors
Aluminum sliding glass
Iron doors for main entrance
Wooden doors for kitchen and toilet
Flooring
Plastering
Wiring
Plumbing.

How much can finish this building ?
My budget is 2million. Would it be enough before I embark on this stage ?.

My dilemma is that all these people advising did not see where lintel was done halfway, only the windows carry lintel.
There are millions of bungalow with no single pillars and it has not fallen.

I am not a builder but I have seen so many and my bungalow with no pillars but 9 inch vibrated blocks.

I did a project for a client with no single column and no parapet, we did a roof beam and used 6inches blocks all through.
The building is about 6years old now.

Is it possible if this roof beam was to have a parapet(concrete fascia) attached to it would there have been some sort of failure at that section of the build?

Well, it depends on what everyone wants or can afford.
If you are not following the height specified by Ur architect which you can find in the sectional drawings then you may adopt 2.4m/2.7m3.0m or even more.
Mind you; staircase has it's own role to play.

The total number of the
standard windows for the room is 10 as each room as 2 windows.
kitchen 5 windows
toilet 5 windows

As for the size. I don't know the size. But I am sure it an average size of my window.

Yes. There must be columns at least at the four corners of the building when constructing the concrete fascia(parapet).
