Buffalo-area woman named Judith
Smentkiewicz fell ill with Covid-19. She was
rushed by ambulance to Millard Fillmore
Suburban Hospital in Williamsville, New York,
where she was put on a ventilator. Her son
Michael and his wife flew up from Georgia,
and were given grim news. Judith, doctors
said, had a 20% chance at survival, and even
if she made it, she’d be on a ventilator for a
month.
As December passed into the New Year,
Judith’s health declined. Her family members,
increasingly desperate, had been doing what
people in the Internet age do, Googling in
search of potential treatments. They saw
stories about the anti-parasitic drug
ivermectin, learning among other things that a
pulmonologist named Pierre Kory had just
testified before the Senate that the drug had a
“miraculous” impact on Covid-19 patients. The
family pressured doctors at the hospital to
give Judith the drug. The hospital initially
complied, administering one dose on January
2nd. According to her family’s court
testimony, a dramatic change in her condition
ensued.
“In less than 48 hours, my mother was taken
off the ventilator, transferred out of the
Intensive Care Unit, sitting up on her own and
communicating,” the patient’s daughter
Michelle Kulbacki told a court.
After the reported change in Judith’s
condition, the hospital backtracked and
refused to administer more. Frustrated, the
family turned on January 7th to a local lawyer
named Ralph Lorigo. A commercial litigator
and head of what he calls a “typical suburban
practice,” with seven lawyers engaged in
everything from matrimonial to estate work,
Lorigo assigned one of his attorneys to review
materials given to them by the family, which
included Kory’s Senate testimony. The
associate showed Lorigo himself the the
material next morning.
“I was so convinced by what Dr. Kory was
saying,” Lorigo says. “I saw the passion and
the belief.”
Lorigo immediately sued the hospital, filing to
State Supreme Court to force the facility to
treat according to the family’s wishes. Judge
Henry J. Nowak sided with the
Smentkiewiczes, signing an order that Lorigo
and one of his attorneys served themselves,
and after a series of quasi-absurd dramas that
included the hospital refusing to let the
Smentkiewicz family physician phone in the
prescription — “the doctor actually had to drive
to the hospital,” Lorigo says — Judith went
back on ivermectin.
“She was out of that hospital in six days,”
Lorigo says. After a month of rehab, his
octogenarian client went back to her life,
which involved working five days a week (she
still cleans houses). Her story, complete with
photo, was told in the Buffalo News, causing
Lorigo’s phone to begin ringing off the hook.
Doppleganger cases soon began dotting the
map all over the country.

You know, when you first mentioned this drug. I asked my wife about it. She told me some patients have been asking her to prescribe this drug to them as profilaxis. She said it's very similar to deworming drugs used in Nigeria to treat kids with worms..

However; like most drugs, it is currently undergoing trials to check it's efficacy for Covid treatment. What Nigerians like to call due process. Everything doesn't have to be about conspiracy theories.

Why should they ban doctors from prescribing it?To the point that the relatives have to go to court to force the hospitals to administer the drug which has been in use for a long time albeit for other maladies?

That's a case of someone not being treated because there is really no drug for covid-19.

During Obama's tenure there was high voter turnout in California especially LA and other major cities due to minorities concentration in those urban areas and I understand why. So the election landscape has been made to favour the democrats for at least the next two decades in presidential elections.

To be honest, no one would have beaten Clinton in the Republican Party except Donald Trump because he came and passed a different message that appealed to a particular democratic voting block though that are not actwually democrats (we call them the Reagan democrats). And they perceived him as an outsider who's not a regular party establishment, a successful business man who would put his business experience in governance.

Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio and the rest wouldn't have hit those punchlines that would have motivated people to come out and vote. They would have pretended and formed political correctness just like Bernie Sanders blew his chance to finish crooked Hillary and grab the nomination when her email and corruption case came out. The same reason he can never be president of any country. He's running a weak campaign, forget his base. He doesn't know how to play the game of politics.


Trump has opened a pathway for republicans to white house so even if California gives the democrats 15 million votes it won't be a determining factor to victory. The founding fathers foresaw this period and created the electoral college vote to checkmate over population in such cities. Meaning no state is more important in presidential elections than the other. Every state no matter how small got to play a role in electing a president, hence the effectiveness of the electoral college.

That's why the Dems don't want sanctuary cities to be closed because those immigrants and aliens make up a large voting block for the them.

Trump has given the republicans a lifeline, they would be ever grateful. No one saw that coming.
The Dems may not get to see the presidency anytime soon due to trump's precedence.

I'd actually prefer the debates without insults. Last week, Benalvino2 began an interesting debate about Critical Race Theory. I was actually expecting the supposed non-combatant members (as I myself was in 'combat mode' for two whole days before then and would only have come off as aggressive if I did debate it so I took a back seat) to debate it with him. I kept returning, my ban regardless, hoping there'd be a debate for and against it. Sadly, there was none as the people he tried debating it responded with only insults.

Missed opportunity to genuinely share ideas and perspective about a topical issue.

You know what would be better than the Sunday Rule? Agreeing anyone who insults at any point of the day would be banned by the moderators. A week of constant bans might deter everyone and make them insist on debating issues.

I could decide to be inactive today then go on to insult from tomorrow. That's the limitation of the Sunday thingy.
