Why is he angry? Does he want to monopolise everything?
Re: Mele Kyari On Refinery: Dangote Not Happy With NNPC Proposed Stake Acquisition by Oleys: 8:02pm On Jun 29, 2021
I don't blame Dangote if he's not happy with the intention of NNPC taking 20% in his refinery. We know the dismal performance of anything that has the imprint of NNPC. Is it not sad that NNPC is the only national oil company that does not prospect for oil in the whole world. It relies on the contract sharing profits of the figures given to it by the multi national oil company sharing partners.

20% is a whooping percentage. It means Federal Government through NNPC will be a major decision maker that will sit on the board.

This will encourage red tapeism and nepotism in this private initiative.

However flipping the coin to the other side, NNPC involvement will give it a political drive internationally.

On the long run, I still believe it is welcome development.

Let us keep our fingers crossed and let us see how it is going to play out

$19B for 20% of the project?? How much is the whole project again?? Cos I'm not understanding.
Re: Mele Kyari On Refinery: Dangote Not Happy With NNPC Proposed Stake Acquisition by Spidermon: 8:07pm On Jun 29, 2021
I think this is a lie.

Why the emphasis on the point that Mr Dangoteis reluctant to sell shares??

If the share value is inflated and NNPC as usual handles their board position with levity as expected, it might actually not be in Nigeria's interest sef...

BTW, wasn't CBN instrumental in providing funding for the construction??

Funny stuff...

They're really just interested in the profits. They won't be directly involved in the daily running of the refinery.
Cos they invested heavily on the project.

Dangote is standing tall thanks to successive govts.

He should play wisely.

They are not afraid to tear him up like they did so many before him.

Recently I posted an unproven opinion that Royal Dutch Shell Oil company secretly owns or controls the NNPC. Freedom of speech. wink
Now PMB has had six years to clean up the NNCP but I suspect the northern elders are too much of a force for one man to battle. See how they decimated Magu from the EFCC when he started going after corruption in high places?

How soon we lose focus and forget the news and the players.

From Wiki

"Shell Nigeria -Diezani Alison-Madueke

She returned to Nigeria in 1992 and joined Shell Petroleum Development Corporation working in the estates area of operations in the Lagos office of Shell as well as acting as an architectural consultant. She rose to the position of Head of Civil Infrastructures and then became Head of Corporate Issues and Crisis Management Unit in 1997. Upon completion of her MBA program at Cambridge, she was made Lead Joint Ventures Representation Adviser in 2004.[7]

Alison-Madueke was appointed as an Executive Director of Shell in 2006. She was the first woman ever to be appointed by Shell as an Executive Director in Nigeria.[9]"

Only multinational oil companies have an easy $19 billion to invest in Dangote's refinery and try to bleep it up from the inside. No shade on GEJ, just adding some thoughts to the thread to show how deep Shell's tentacles go. NL always said she was knacking him read good.

ABUJA (Reuters) - The Nigerian government has accused former President Goodluck Jonathan and his then oil minister of accepting bribes and breaking the country’s laws to broker a $1.3 billion oil deal eight years ago, a London court filing shows.

I understand this is capitalism but Dangote is GREEDY.

He is yet to understand that; A capitalist in the capitalist economy can NEVER be too RICH than the government of that economy.

Wealth is another term for power and the amount of wealth in your possession determines the amount of power you have, but you can NEVER be POWERFUL than the government in the state. The government of the state is so powerful that; it can take her citizen life at will and no one can do anything about it otherwise, you will persecuted for treason against the government and locked away or even killed. Let's get back to capitalism:

You cannot be too rich or powerful than the government. A case scenario was John D. Rockefeller.

Rockefeller was richer than the U.S government (not the today's Bill Gates and Zuckerburg money but long and strong oil money). The U.S. government realising how powerful Rockefeller was becoming due to his money now had to force him to break up and split his company (standard oil) to different companies (Shell, Total, Chevron etc), and these companies will be owned by share holders.

This is the same thing the Nigeria government (NNPC) is trying to broker with Dangote but GREED is not making him think clear or he is clearly ignorant of history. Or probably want to be powerful than the Nigeria government.
shell and total was never part of standard oil please.
Re: Mele Kyari On Refinery: Dangote Not Happy With NNPC Proposed Stake Acquisition by King44(m):
They should make their refineries work and leave Dangote's refineries, they are using Nigerians as leverage to buy the shares. Make your refineries work and don't ruin his business.

They waited for him to almost complete the refinery before proposing to buy 20% stake a whole 20% not even 5% na ment.

They should stop trying to reap where they didn't sow, had it been they have good record of management of various refineries I would have said "It is a very good move" but from the look of things they want to have a say where they shouldn't, that is a day light robbery.

Nonsense, why will he be happy. Reaping where you didn't sow...NNPC want to come and scatter Dangote refinery and make it moribund like their own
I once heard that Shell built and developed Port Harcourt Refinery and the Nigerian Government took over it.
Re: Mele Kyari On Refinery: Dangote Not Happy With NNPC Proposed Stake Acquisition by masseratti: 8:56pm On Jun 29, 2021
Energy security my foot, government has no business doing business, how can you force your competitor Dangote refineries to have a say in the way he is running his business and be on his board? How do you effect competition, is that not monopoly? NNPC is moribund and should be sold, it's of no use.
Allow DPR and the ministry of petroleum to regulate the industry period.

What this man is saying is akin to Government saying Old nitel must have 20% stake in Econet, Mtn and Glo back then, where is Government Mtel today now?

Where the GMD got me laughing is when he tried to change the name of fuel subsidy to under recovery, this people must think we are stupid.

19billion dollars to buy stake of 20% what is the value of the whole refinery it self.

We just don't have an effective legislatures and most of our lawyers are sleeping while they should be in court contesting this day light robbery.

You are thinking along my lines. Everything in Nigeria seems to be powered by fraud. All the talk of Dangote doesn't want them to buy 20% stake at US$19 billion is just psychology and hogwash!

How has a US$12 billion to US$15 billion refinery investment become valued at US$95 billion overnight without having refined a single drop of oil? Even when the oil market is facing the doldrums and uncertain future in the face of alternative energy sources and the rise of electric cars? Haba. Nigerians are masters at fraud.

Why not use part $19bn to work on our existing refineries to make it work. Is it a must NNPC buy stake in Dangote refinery
Re: Mele Kyari On Refinery: Dangote Not Happy With NNPC Proposed Stake Acquisition by Yankee101: 9:10pm On Jun 29, 2021
Kyari further said that the NNPC is seeking the authority of the Federal Executive Council to close the deal which he said is worth about $19bn.

$19bn for 20% stake?

Must every dollar contract be padded in nigeria?

Valuing the firm at $95bn, na beans? What was Dangote's networth? How much did he borrow? What happened to the CBN fx discounts he got? What of the import concessions?

Becoming a billionaire is very easy if you're handed over the keys to a big country, just like they did with cement, sugar and now oil for dangote.

Nonsense.
Re: Mele Kyari On Refinery: Dangote Not Happy With NNPC Proposed Stake Acquisition by RiceProducers: 9:17pm On Jun 29, 2021
Big lie. Kyari is trying to deflect. Dangote is owing probably $10bn or more on that refinery. He needs to partner with a sovereign to reduce the liability and assure the creditors.

Only kids on Nairaland believe these tales about him not being happy..as usual

If you don't know how businesses are valued why not shut up.
It is the business valuation not the project cost. Actually with the market size i am projecting, which is the entire West Africa and probably 1/20 of the international market in some ptod7ct streams, $95bn is conservative.

Are you certain of that?

If they truly invested in the project, they wouldn't need to be proposing to 'buy/asking' for a stake in it, because such an investment would naturally have come with an inclusion clause for the federal government ab initio.

Unless what you meant by invested is not financial investment, but the various waivers and tax cuts they've been offering the Dangote Group as a whole over the years.
