It's a must to sell shares in your company I guess? Why can't they buy shares in dangote cement. Why refinery wey never even start.
The refinery you fail to build for your country. What a country!!!
If I am dangote, I will never sell shares to the government. This People are just too funny..why not fix your 4 refineries and leave dangote alone. This country doesn't support industrialization at all. How do we find ourselves in this country called Nigeria. Can you imagine? See the way he his even talking as if they wished well for the refinery in the first place.
Let the drama begin.

Don't think someone would get this far in business if they lacked some amount of foresight.

He will collect 20b now, but the gov. Gains 20% power in decision making, 20% from any profits in the future.
So, would you collect 20b now, and give up a large chunk of control, and on potentially making 10times that amount in a few years to come?

If you don't know how businesses are valued why not shut up.
It is the business valuation not the project cost. Actually with the market size i am projecting, which is the entire West Africa and probably 1/20 of the international market in some ptod7ct streams, $95bn is conservative.

Please how are businesses valued from your point of view? I would like to know.

S-Oil Corporation of South Korea that owns and operates a similar 650kbpd Refinery in addition to other business areas has a current market valuation of around US$8 billion down from over US$9 billion in 2020. Petrobras with over 2mbpd combined refining capacity has a current market valuation of US$72 billion down from US$104 billion in 2020. Practically all the major oil firms have lost value in the last one year. All these firms have established revenue and earnings that are not mere projections.

Now you have Dangote Refinery, built with US$15 billion, hasn't worked a single day, has no oil well and no established revenue. And it is suddenly valued at US$95 billion which is more than 5 times the major asset value (i.e. the refinery)! Please can you give basis for such valuation?

Don't forget that other Dangote business have only given him a personal net worth of less than US$12 billion based on their current stock prices.

Why not use part $19bn to work on our existing refineries to make it work. Is it a must NNPC buy stake in Dangote refinery

They may be taking bribes to keep the non-functioning refineries, non- functioning.

This Nollywood classic did high honours to the issue.

I understand this is capitalism but Dangote is GREEDY.

He is yet to understand that; A capitalist in the capitalist economy can NEVER be too RICH than the government of that economy.

Wealth is another term for power and the amount of wealth in your possession determines the amount of power you have, but you can NEVER be POWERFUL than the government in the state. The government of the state is so powerful that; it can take her citizen life at will and no one can do anything about it otherwise, you will persecuted for treason against the government and locked away or even killed. Let's get back to capitalism:

You cannot be too rich or powerful than the government. A case scenario was John D. Rockefeller.

Rockefeller was richer than the U.S government (not the today's Bill Gates and Zuckerburg money but long and strong oil money). The U.S. government realising how powerful Rockefeller was becoming due to his money now had to force him to break up and split his company (standard oil) to different companies (Shell, Total, Chevron etc), and these companies will be owned by share holders.

This is the same thing the Nigeria government (NNPC) is trying to broker with Dangote but GREED is not making him think clear or he is clearly ignorant of history. Or probably want to be powerful than the Nigeria government.

Dude, Standard Oil never became Shell or Total because those are Dutch and French companies respectively.

Good to know we so many people who are reading between the lines on Nairaland. it is obvious that dangote has run into cash flow problems with this refinery project and the cost of getting FX is not helping his cause hence the proposal by NNPC to buy off shares in the refinery. my question is the valuation how was it suddenly valued at $95bn when it has not produced anything? and the NNPC wants to get a 20% equity. This is just another fraudulent means by goverment to fund Dangote who in turn would smile to the bank because he would not only recover the full cost but would make huge profit without the refinery producing anything. All this talk of Dangote not being happy is just smoke screen and all na wash to deceive the public as usual.

Not all the 200m Nigerians are fooled.this is the original game plan from word go.why will nnpc not find 20b USD to buy 1 percent share of Saudis aramco?

DANGOTE IS PURELY PRIVATE. LEAVE HIM TO RUN HIS REFINERY 100% PRIVATELY. NNPC ALREADY HAS FOUR REFINERIES. YOU'RE ADDING DANGOTE'S INVESTMENT TO MAKE NNPC REFINERIES FIVE. UNLESS YOU'RE GIVING THE ENTIRE $19bn THAT YOU WANT THE FEC TO APPROVE TO DANGOTE? AS YOU CAN SEE, DANGOTE DOESN'T WANT THE INEFFICIENCY OF NNPC INTRODUCED INTO HIS PRIVATE ENTERPRISES. SO NO CORNERING BUSINESS FOR DANGOTE'S BUSINESS.

NNPC can't run their own refineries, yet they want to take a 20% stake in Dangote's. On what basis? This is just another avenue for them to chop chop

Yes they did. And it's part of the agreement.
They want security.
if that's the case then Dangote would not have been 'unhappy' has alleged since, he giving up such equity stake is dependent on him accepting this investments from the government. Don't forget that tax rebate or cut and other waivers is the norm when you're involve in such high level investment in a nation or state, that will increase the employment rate and living standard of the people. By becoming a board member of the company the government is making the refinery sector more political and invariably killing competition that should be encouraged. Aside Dangote there about three others private refineries in the offing this can't be good news for those fellows. Government should maintain is regulatory power and stay out of business, Nigeria has never fared well as a socialist economy
