Why The Nigerian Manufacturing Industry Of The 80's Crashed. by LikeAking: 12:36am On Jul 02, 2021 |
The reason is simple, cheap goods from China. Cheap goods from China crashed manufacturing across the globe. Some people have been blaming the dead beat govt, but the honest truth is our importers flooded the market with cheap Chinese good. These cheap Chinese good have helped many Nigerian buy certain commodities that were big deals back them. Its obvious made in Nigeria goods are too expensive for Nigerian, so what ever product we are manufacturing in Nigeria should have the Nigerian price "Cheap" attached to it. We have to make sure we are not over charging our people in the Name of manufacturing. Please drop your own opinion. 2 Likes |

LikeAking: Sounds like you are saying cheap goods from China came to Nigeria on their own to come and crash Nigeria. No be we go de buy am? Still, if I am to remember correctly, it wss Made in Taiwan as far back as the 70s. And they were so crap that Made in Aba beat them often so no one wanted their crap, but today Taiwan fries the chips. If only Made in Aba had not died, is a case of what could have been. 2 Likes

budaatum: This is the kind of investments Nigerian govts should fund. Development is no longer about roads, bridges and schools. Some smart guys imported these goods into Nigeria. We should be patriotic. Made in Aba will come to life, bigger and better. What we lack in Nigeria is patriotism. The Asian guys have lots of it.. 1 Like |

LikeAking:The government is still to be blamed when they allow those guys import those goods. Why cant the government increase the tarrif and use the money to support local production? If it is electricity that's adding to the cost of production and consequently, the prices of goods, the money from the high tarrif should be channeled into solving the problem. So, I still blame the government. 1 Like |

nlreserve: True, the government should be blamed, but we know they will still smuggle these goods. Lack of Electricity is just a big lie/excuse by manufactures to sell expensive products. Its simple capitalism. The Nigerian greed. If companies go into palm oil production the price will sky rocket. |

mrvitalis: The major problem with Buhari is simple, he is not he leader, he just loves power. And power comes to to power grabbers. They main problem are cheap goods from China. The made in Nigerian products are too expensive for Nigerians till date. The Nigerian greed also contributed. The made in Nigeria goods are too expensive. |

Re: Why The Nigerian Manufacturing Industry Of The 80's Crashed. by LikeAking: 12:04pm On Jul 02, 2021 |
mrvitalis: Its the Nigerian greed. We love to sell expensive. Go on Esty and see Nigerians selling simple Nigerian clothes of 2k Naira for $80,$50,$30. Its just our nature. Cement is too expensive in Nigeria, yet we have the lowest cost of manufacturing cement. Including energy cost oh, despite the no light thing. Nigeria is not as bad as they claim. They have used the negative narrative to keep us out of sensitive sectors. In summary, Nigerian manufactures are exploiting Nigerians. Please try and visit a food/confec joint owned by the Chinese in Nigeria and also visit the one owned by Nigerians. Compare the price and quality of their product, you will discover the Chinese food joint in Nigeria have quality and cheaper products. Whats the excuse for Nigerian manufactures/business owners? |

The government entirely don't have a stable plan for manufacturing. There is no progressive manufacturing plan that is monitored till this moment because every government have one or two persons to support. Enriching dangote won't make goods cheaper or make us competitive. It can only enrich those that support him. The factor keeping almost all sector down is same factor that has killed more Nigerians before it inception: Tribalism. |

LikeAking: are you aware that we have Standards Org of Nigeria? and they give passmark to these substandard products to flood the market and plunge the whole country to substandard living. standards keep reducing till there is no more standard in this country. even milk now tastes like sh!t. please do not blame the chinese. if you allow goat and fowl to enter your bedroom then they will surely enter and even sleep on your bed. our government opened the door for rubbish to enter the country. government bad policies ruined industrialization and forced manufacturers to reduce quality |

superCleanworks: I am not blaming the Chinese, but I am blaming the importers, we and govt. Na so we go dey dey? We can still manufacture some small small goods like stove, etc at a cheaper rate than china. Its will get cheapers as many companies enter the steal rolling business. |

LikeAking: No, LikeAking! This is not the kind of investments Nigerian govts should fund! In fact, serious entrepreneurs should refuse government funds if offered because they should know that government hand is the hand of far too many and smart people know how that spoils the broth! It is what Nigerians should fund, but even in your op you said something about "too expensive", which indicates an unwillingness to invest, so here we are buying Made in Chinese who do invest in themselves and are now reaping the profit.
