Nigerian Government Puts Cut-Off Marks Into Unity School At 134 Average For South-East, Anambra 139, As Low As 2 Marks For Zamfara State.

The Federal Ministry of Education pegs cut-off marks for admission into the 104 unity schools nationwide at 134 on average for the five South-East states, while states in the North have cut-offs of 20 marks and even below.

This cut-off is out of a total 300 marks.

SaharaReporters obtained the cut-off lists as released by the Ministry for the 2020/2021 academic year, showing the huge disparity between the cut-off marks which candidates from South-East and South-West states should have and what the candidates from North should obtain.

According to the breakdown, Anambra has the highest cut-off of “139 marks for both males and females; Imo 138; Enugu 134, Lagos 133; Delta 131, Ogun 131, Abia 130 and Edo.”

Osun and Oyo also are among the 10 top with the highest cut-off marks with both of them having 127 marks.

SaharaReporters observed that the least 10 cut-off marks for Unity Schools are all northern states; Gombe 58; Nasarawa 58; Borno 45; Jigawa 44, Bauchi 35; Kebbi has 9 for males and 20 for females.

Also, Sokoto has 9 for males and 13 for females; Zamfara has 4 marks for males and 2 for females.

Taraba and Yobe are the least states with Taraba having 3 for males and 11 for females while Yobe has 2 for males and 27 for females.

The cut-off marks were reportedly released by the National Examination Council.

“Some pupils are admitted into Unity schools with as low as two marks in the common entrance examinations while some can only get into the same schools with at least 130 marks. Slowly mediocrity has crept in.

“While a candidate from Anambra State has to struggle for 139, a candidate from Zamfara is looking for just 4 marks. Yes, it is true that the quota system is meant to give educationally disadvantaged regions of the country an opportunity to access quality education, but that gap is ridiculous.

“Merit should also be a strong consideration,” an education expert, who did not want his name in print, explained.

What a country.

A time will come when we will have Zero (0) as cut-off mark...

I have a dream that a time will also come when Nigeria will have minus hundred (-100) as cut off mark.

So even if you didn't write the exam you are guaranteed admission under the negative cut-off mark.

Meanwhile Congratulations Mr President., PhD acquired.

And some useful idiots of southern extraction are still hell bent on one Nigeria. Imagine the huge gap in the cut off marks between the south and the north when it is still the same illiterates from the north that will still occupy and head all the juicy positions in the country. Southern Nigeria is the most cowardice region in the world

The DOT states are not doing badly at all.

Many people misunderstand the plight of poor Northern children in this cut-off point show of shame. The reality is that while Northern elite send their children to top-drawer private schools, these young poorly educated cut-off-point victims never make it at SSCE and UME. They generally drop out, doing odd jobs and many becoming drug addicts. The young people who use quota system to secure plum jobs are still children of the elite. Head or tail the rich and influential win.

That's why I keep saying the Fulanis/northerners are smart. Call it cunning if you like but you just have to give it to them. With such measures they will always be at the top in all the affairs of the country.

Woe to the divisive Southerners! While you fight against each other the north will continue to subdue you through quota system. So that after obtaining a doctorate degree you will work under one barely literate mallam and address him with "Sir". Modern Slavery 101. grin grin

Isn't it funny that when it gets to federal appointments, you realized that same states with very low cut-off marks are the same people that are heading the judiciary, military, administration, legislative and every other strategic post. Then a PMB will come out to tell you that he places competence above all, with the impression that southern regions may not have a competent candidate for his screwed appointments.
Nigeria is a case in study!
No nation will expect to be blessed with the grace of light where quota system, nepotism, religious affiliations, tribalism and bellicose patriotism is regarded above meritocracy.

When it suits them, they shout quota system.

But when it does not, they said where a person comes from does not matter as long as he is "performing".

I just read that the PIB been passed at NA gave 30% of NNPC to northern basins to "prospect for Oil"!!!

30 ffucking percent!!!

And Oh , they reduce money to oil producing communities from 5% to 3% and then even went ahead to define Oil communities to include areas through which oil pipeline passes(in other words, they will still benefit from it).

And there were southern senators and HOR members in that same NA!!!

Very sickening

I did my JSS class at Ado-Ekiti, once in a week we normally go to the school farm do some cultivation.

My SS class was at Yola Adamawa state, all through my senior secondary school days, we never for once raised a hoe.
