Good Afternoon House.

@fairheart @walspring @adetbecca and @tesla, please I joined nairaland because of this platform. And I have read a lot of about you guys and how you have been helping people through their interview.

I have been denial US Visa twice this year based on ties. Please I need your help. I need someone to help me check my transcript as well as my application, also help me though mock interview…so as to prepare for a better interview and also overcome my fear. Please I don’t know much about naira land, don’t even get to know if I have a notification or message from someone as well.
Would appreciate your response.
Many thanks.

Well that's not the only option but I noticed the dates available under regular are more recent and likely to be better than under 'previosuly denied' but of course my DS clearly states that I was previosuly denied. Moreso, I feel the visa appointment page is the only one that carries the visa priority thing and the VO shouldn't be concerned with it instead the focus should be on DS info. What do you think please? Do you know anyone that has used this approach before?

It's hard to say why you were denied but if i could hazard a guess, i would say 3 things:

1. Your age - it's not too common to see someone at 40 deciding to go for their masters.
2. You could not articulate why you chose this school. Much of what you said appears like it's rehearsed. There is nothing personalized - for example, at 40, you are at an age where career is super important to you, yet you cannot tell the VO in detail, exactly why this master's degree helps you further your career.
3. You don't seem to be able to clearly articulate what you do. Yes, you're the head of a powder coating department, but exactly what does that mean? What do you do? How passionate are you about your current career? How does your educational pursuit further that career?

This is why I don't subscribe to mock interviews... you all end up spouting the same tired rehearsed lines, forgetting that every circumstance is different. It's hard to convince a VO when you have no personal attachment to what you claim you want to do.

I don’t know any one that has used that approach if you are seeing previously refused you are obligated to pick it since you have been denied within two months it’s not a matter of earlier dates of regular
Unless you didn’t see the option of previously refused then you go with what ever you saw

VO: I see you're going to Missouri State University for your master's degree in computer science
Me: yes ma'am
VO: did you apply to other Schools
Me: Yes, I applied to 4, (I mentioned the 4 and said one rejected me)
VO: so why did you pick Missouri State?
Me: (I went blank after all the practice I've done, I couldn't recall my rehearsed answer, so I freestyled)

Missouri State seemed very interested in my career goals, immediately after admission I was offered an advisor who read my SOP and advised me on the best courses for my career.

VO: who's sponsoring you?
Me: my mum, she runs the family hospitality business with 3 hotels

VO: What will you do when you return?
Me: The Nigerian fintech sector is currently booming and we have two unicorns, with this boom there will be a requirement requirement for labour. With my background in financial services and the skills I will be acquiring through this program, I will be able to get a role in the fintech sector.

VO: I see you have a sibling there?
Me: Yes, my brother is there on a basketball scholarship (I was still talking, VO cuts in)
VO: where does he stay? (I kept on talking tangential to the question)
VO: Where!!!
Me: SD

She typed for a long time and then gave me the white paper.

Please always look them in the eye while speaking, it helps to display confidence. I have never been a cramming person, so while doing my mocks I suspected a blank out. During that time, I worked on a freestyle alternative and this saved me a lot. The VO never smiled all through just kept a neutral face. When you see this, don't be discouraged - it's part of the job.

I want to say I am really glad and i don’t know how to express my joy. Because what God can not do does not exist. God has helped me and I am really thankful to Akeem Ajao, for always encouraging me and being by my side. I am indeed grateful for my fairheart. For all of the advice he has given me, I was not worried again after receiving all of this advices and counsels. Now I know even if we had made mistakes in the past, there is still a way to correct this mistakes, we should never be frustrated or try to give up because of this. I know I already shared my transcripts on my first, second and third interview. I will be sharing the fourth one today. The VO that interviewed me in Abuja today was the same VO that interviewed me during my 3rd attempt. Just a month ago after I was denied. Visa approved
Visa approved Abuja embassy 28th June 2021. Fourth attempt.

VO: pass me your documents, he was kind of typing in his system. He said sorry hold on.
Me: with boldness I was not really smiling at all. I said here is my documents. There is no problem you can continue doing what you are doing.
VO: checked my passport, so he said what did you went to do in the Democratic republic of Congo.
Me: I went to the DRC for a missionary service, which I did for my church for two years. This service is required for every male member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint from the age of 18-25. Because of this service I was able to go to Kenya, Ghana and Togo. I then handle over my missionary photos and my missionary certificate for prove of the service.
VO: don’t worry I believe you. With a smile. So I see you are going to Missouri.
Me: yes I will be going to Missouri state university for my bachelor’s degree in chemistry and I am going to be concentrating on biochemistry.
VO: he checked his system and then he said how come so soon you reapplied again and how did you got this date seeing that there are no available dates?
Me: I found out that I don’t need to give up on my dreams, so after being denied on that last day. I went straight forward to purchase another mrv fee and then started my application again. So I had to request for emergency appointment. Because I came to find out that student going for f1 visas are been granted emergency request. So I had to do mine and I was given this date.
VO: nodded his head and then he said that’s fine. I see you have a scholarship of $5,000 how are you going to be paying the remaining fees.
Me: my parents have always been sponsoring my activities and they were the one who sponsored my missionary program and they will be paying for my education.
VO: okay what do they do?
Me: for my dad he works in a micro finance bank and he also has an automobile business in my home city whereby he deals on used Nigeria vehicles and my mom she is a pharmacist.
VO: okay so what will you do with this degree?
Me: first of all after the completion of this degree with the amount of knowledge I am going to acquire in this field. I will be able to pursue a career someday in becoming a biomedical scientist. Because i love to know how our plants and animals can resist diseases, droughts and other afflictions. I will then be able to carried out biological and laboratory test on tissue fluids so that clinicians can be able to diagnose and treat diseases in plants and animals.
VO: he kept on typing and typing for like 1 minute. He added my passport to the others and said I will be keeping your passport and I will be returning this i-20 to you, you need this at the point of entry. He thé gave me the white paper.
Me: I was like really surprise and I said thank you sir. God bless you.
VO: don’t worry you are good to go, just prepare your travel and always maintain COVID19 guidelines to always stay safe.

I left and I was really happy and was kind of confuse because it looked like a dream to me. I am really thankful to God and I can’t really express my joy.

Congratulations!!
Please can you remember how long it took before you got an admission to Missouri State university after submitting your application? And how soon was your visa interview date from the date you submitted visa application. I am about to submit an application for Masters in Accounting at Missouri State university and I want to know if I can still meet up with Fall Admission.
Thank you

I know someone that has used the approach. She was denied in April & she chose regular & got date for 2nd June which was later rescheduled by the embassy to 17th June & she got her visa approved. Someone on this thread has done same too

good point and I have also seen scenarios where the option to pick previously refused was not there just regular…
But in his case he says the option is there for both regular and previously refused so it’s tricky if you ask me
