Good evening everyone,

I have an urgent request....

I got an undergraduate full tuition and fees scholarship to a College in Little Rock, Arkansas but the problem is, I don't have the money to pay for the room and board fees and it is required of me to pay the fees before I get my form I-20. The only option I have is if I have a relative or if I know someone who would be willing to vouch for me that I would be staying with them.

This is really important and I would be open to any other suggestions also.... Time is not on my side because I could get the scholarship taken away from me..

The deficit is $8000, My course of study is Psychology, I left secondary school in 2017, and I have a sponsor who is willing to pay for my cost of feeding and upkeep including utility bills for 2months and another who is willing to pay for another 4 months
Thank you.

How much is the deficit? What’s your program? When did you finish Secondary school? How do you intend to fund yourself after getting the I-20?

Try and give more info about yourself and someone might help.

Don't be offended Sha but if nah Lagos, you are on a long thing. I applied for EA at the Lagos embassy since last month. Till date no response. I had to switch to Abuja. Take my candid advice. If you can, switch go Abuja

Choose student or exchange.

Although, I made a mistake when I did mine, I had submitted before realizing I didn't change it from "ESTA denied" to "Student or Exchange".

My emergency application was approved nonetheless.

Just write a good cover note and upload the right set of documents.

Tega1986:
When applying for emergency date, is it ESTA denied is the right to choose for F-1 student or what please?
I'm confused here.

Please advice. Thanks

I got to the embassy  very early. I was checked at different entrance and all the securities demeanor speaks good for me and was lovely. I had to sit and watch while the ones that got earlier time went in and when it got to my time and turn, the passport photo I took along was rejected and i had to rush out to snap another one for 1500 which was okay for me as the ultimate goal here is not going back with my passport. After fulfilling all the basic checking in and requirements, we started moving on the seat bit by bit till i was ushered in with some set of people. Immediately I got in there were three VOs at the counter attending to Applicants, there this particular VO i saw and my spirit said this is your VO. She was attending to a lady going to Cambridge and i said to myself at a point in the lady's interview this girl will get the white paper, God let me also get the white paper...Then it dawned on me when her visa delayed based on 214b. All I noticed was the VO's range of questions were easy to manipulate. And behold, she waved me to come i was overwhelmed with confidence because I knew my case will be different.

V.O: Good Morning

Me: Good morning Ma'am

VO: pass me your passport, DS160 and I-20

Me: Passed ( Did the thumb checking phase)

VO: She quickly scanned through my i20 and was like you are going to NCAT for your Masters in Physics?
Me: Yes ma'am
VO: I can see you have an assistantship from the department
Me: Yes ma'am from the department of Physics
V.O: Tell me about what your research is about? (i talked alot about researches on my Ds160).
Me: I wanted to start running down what my professor does and what the research is about (then she cuts in)
V.O: The Research in relation to your course
Me: Just gave her what I always felt was too  casual ( sperm motility in biophysics)
VO: Come again...
Me: Sperm Motility; an aspect under biophysics.
VO: Oh!! Sperm Motility ( I guess my pronunciation was whack ) So who's Sperm ?
Me: Mammalian Sperm.
VO: What will this Course do for you?
Me: It will give me the requisite skill and knowledge to be an astute Reearcher and Lecturer( Ds160 is important).
VO: You want to be an academician?
Me: Yes I want to work in the academics.
VO: (she looked at me and nodded)VO: (Types for like some long seconds) picked the white paper then gives it to me and started telling to make sure I go with my I20 blabla. I fixed my eyes on her like i was listening but menohearshishi .
Me: Thank you ma'am.

I just want to appreciate you all for all the  love and support during the entire process and wait times. The calls, support and care was just too much. I love you all fam. One Love.

Please, Save yourself the stress of asking archaic questions that have previously been answered by reading up previous pages.

Reciprocity fees has long been rescinded. You no longer have to pay.

I hate to say it but the obvious reality is you don't have the financial resources to school in the US. Your plan isn't well thought out:

1. Get a relative to pay your room and board - probably your best option. However, be aware that "room and board" does not include the cost of incidentals - phone bills, transportation costs etc. Also "room and board" is only for 9 months. You will need to find a place to stay and take care of yourself during the summer holidays. In other words, you do need a relative who is willing to provide you the funds you need on a monthly basis to take care of yourself.

2. Someone willing to vouch for you that you will be staying with them - If the idea is just to find someone to help you get your I-20, you're only shooting yourself in the foot. When you get the visa, what will you do about "room and board"? You still have to pay. If the idea is to find someone to stay with, how long is that person willing to put up with you? The entire 4 years? Is your intent to never have to pay rent, food utility bills?

3. Sponsor willing to pay - First you have a sponsor willing to pay for costs of feeding for 2 months and another for 4 months. This is not a serious option. Feeding is not the only thing you need - you'll need to pay phone bills, buy incidentals and pay for transport. What will you do then?

Bottomline - you have not thought this through at all. Getting a visa should not be your first priority, making sure you have the funds to survive and thrive here is it. Take it from me, I have seen folks who came here without counting the costs, it was not pretty. The last thing you want to do is skip out on bills, it will basically ruin your credit score and some can even sue you to court to get their money - it is an offense in many states.
