Abdul Samad Rabiu: Kwara’s N2.5bn Cancer Centre Ready In 12 Months
Construction of the N2.5bn oncology and diagnostic centre donated to Kwara State Government will begin in August and will be completed 12 months after, business mogul Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR), has said.

Founder of the ASR Initiative announced this on Tuesday, adding that the specialist facility would be the best in West Africa region for the treatment of cancer.
“ASR Initiative Africa was initiated with the sum of $100m for each year towards education, health and social development in Africa.

“We have decided to intervene in health care in four states in Nigeria with an investment of N2.5bn in each of the four states,” the businessman said in Ilorin when the firm presented the prototype of the facility to the government.

“The project in Kwara State interests us very well. What will be built in Ilorin, Kwara State, will be a stand -alone Hospital which will be the largest in West Africa.

“This will go a long way in reducing the pains of our people. We have seen the seriousness of this Kwara State Government. We are ready and we will move to site in August as directed by Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu. The project will be completed within 12 months.”

He was represented at the event by the Executive Director of the BUA Group Alhaji Kabir Rabiu.

The businessman said the facility would complement the “huge investments” of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in human capital development and the health sector, describing the recently concluded intensive care unit (ICU) facility of the administration as a watershed.

AbdulRazaq commended the ASR chief for his huge donations and other supports to the state, including another N1bn to the University of Ilorin.

The Governor said the administration has been deliberate in revamping the health sector to make the state the go-to place for medical tourism in the north and some southwestern states.

“This initiative will be another major attraction for the General Hospital Ilorin and the state. It is going to become a big deal for healthcare and Kwara will become the hub of medical tourism especially in specialist care for states like Niger, Kogi, Osun and some parts of southwest like Oyo and Ekiti States,” he said

He added: “We cannot quantify the huge benefits of these infrastructures we are putting in place. At the backend of it is the potential for the IGR of the state.

“We will also be attracting experts in this field, while the research that will be done in the facility will open new frontiers in cancer management. What we’re doing here is a whole lot of masterpiece that will make Kwara State a cancer centre in West Africa.

“So, health is our priority. Since we came in, we have made significant impacts. We have very good people managing our health facilities and we are seeing improvement in the health sector.

“In fact, on COVID-19 vaccination, we topped most of the indexes. I must commend our team in the health sector for the advocacy and good jobs and for the management of our health facilities. We have seen serious turnarounds in the date of patient attendance in our hospitals.”

You are so pained. It is not our fault that IPOB governors would rather invest in SW instead of SE. Yourbas and Northerners have been living together in Kwara for centuries. Continue to wail.

Radiation machine cost ₦1.5b converted,2 other other machines like MRI,linear accelerator would easily be up to ₦1billion converted.
It's a laudable move, but ₦2.5billion cannot in anyway build a truly best in West Africa cancer centre unless it's just the physical building and aesthetics they mean.

You guys should always read.
Anyways since its a harmless question, lemme answer it in a harmless way.

If Nnewi says they are Benin and they're using Oba of Benin title, does that implies that the whole Anambra are Benin people?

In rivers, is the whole rivers state Ijaws? Or Ikwerre? Or Igbos?

In Delta, just because The Asaba People are Igbo, does that implies that the whole delta state are Igbo people?

This thing is logic and common sense, its only 1 town (ilorin) that has emir, there are thousands of towns in Kwara even after Ilorin that uses Oba as a title.
Gosh

And lastly.
Emir is an Arabic or Muslim title for a leader not a Fulani title

My town oba can decide to be using Pope title if he wishes, does that implies that he's a Jewish or Italian or whatever?

Just like Igbos aew indigenous to rivers and Ijaws are also indigenous to rivers state.

Thank you!

Well let me tell the little I know.
It's actually not the whole of Kwara. It's mostly Ilorin (though there are some other parts of Kwara that have other ethnicities as well).
Ilorin was part of the old Oyo empire. It was ruled by an Alafin-installed governor named Afonja who was a great warrior. After some time came Hausa and Fulani settlers who were legitimately going about their businesses.
Then Afonja, drunk with power, wanted to become King (an independent ruler) and be free from Oyo. He then sought the help of the local Fulani ruler named Salih Janta, also called Shehu Alimi. Alimi came with his host of mainly Fulani fighters (Nupes and Hausas were also part of the crew) and went to war with the Oyo state. Afonja declared independence and Oyo responded. After some unsuccessful attempts to take Ilorin, the Alafin gave up. Afonja then lead Ilorin for a short stint.
Down the line, the Fulanis and others who came with Alimi started misbehaving and were no longer abiding by the laws of the land, neither were they loyal to Afonja. Prior to this time, it was said that Afonja had given many positions to Alimi and his team often sidelining his own people that has been with him. It was said that Afonja was warned about Alimi but because of his drive for power, he shut out many of his guys and agreed to Alimi's terms. Later on, there were many rifts between Alimi's people and Afonja's people which led to a rebellion against Afonja and the fulanis sought to dispose him. Many of Afonja's generals did not lift a hand in anger and Afonja fell. The Fulanis set up an emirate under Alimi's son and it has been like that till date.
However in the ruling council, there are Yoruba kingmakers and even the family/descendants of Afonja - the Mogaji Aare. But in all, the leadership of Ilorin rests with the sons of Alimi.
The Fulanis are like the Aro in Igboland (for those who know Igbo history).
