Hello all, I know I am allowed to work more than 20hrs during term break.. pls I'd like to know if this work-time rule also applies within my 1month entry(after quarantine of course) into the UK but prior to my resumption in September. I have a family friend that owns a restaurant and she is willing to let me work for her. But I want to be careful I am not doing anything wrong . Cc. @justwise, other snrs in the house Thanks. |

With humility, I passionately wish to know the likely job or career someone with Bsc in Economics, Msc Economics and practising Lawyer in Nigeria will pursue in UK as a new comer in UK before probably doing a graduate certificate program to enable her fit into UK system? Thanks for your anticipated response. |

moson0821:Let me scratch the surface on the car. What type of hustle do you want to do with the car? The car may be cheap but you need a driving licence and then you need to insure the car for the purpose which you intend to use it. Will your "hustle" cover the cost of owning and maintaining the vehicle while on a student visa? That will be tough in my opinion. |

moson0821: Re jobs, of course you can apply for anything that will fit into your 20 hours limit, and not only jobs in care. Register with job agencies in your city (I remember Blue Arrow and Reed), follow the online job boards, spread the word among people you know and see what turns up. Re the car, go to page 626 and read all that was said about the utility of owning a car and the process for doing so. Best of luck. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) rules for Temporary staff in the UK Since 2011, after 3 months in a Temp role, the Agency have to BY LAW increase your hourly pay rate to what they would pay someone doing a comparable job on a permanent basis. So, lets say that out of desperation you accepted a job for £10 per hour on a Temp basis through an Agency, after you have been in the same Temp role with the same hirer for 12 calendar weeks, the agency has to increase your hourly pay rate to the same pay and upgrade your working conditions to that of a comparable direct employee of the hirer. So if for instance a direct employee of the hirer is being pad £40,000 per annum which equates to £20.51 per hour if you do a 37.5 hour week then after you have been in the same Temp role with the same hirer for 12 calendar weeks, the agency is required BY LAW to increase your hourly pay rate from £10 per hour to £20.51 per hour although some agencies will keep quiet about this as not many Temp's know about these AWR regulations. Its called (Agency Workers Regulations) AWR rules. Under the AWR, temporary agency workers become entitled, after they have been in the same role with the same hirer for 12 calendar weeks, to the same pay and working conditions as a comparable direct employee of the hirer. If you've been in a Temp fole with the same employer for at least 12 calendar weeks and you feel your rate is much lower than the equivalent rate for a comparable direct employee of the hirer just tell your agency that you just about something called AWR and they should increase your rates and possibly backdate it too if they don't want to run foul of the law. An agency I once worked with some time ago lost its NHS contract to a cheaper Agency. The new agency I was transferred to increased my rates immediately and when I was puzzled about this, they said it was because AWR kicked in but the old Agency kept quiet about this until I mentioned AWR to them and they had to back pay me the increased rate they previously kept quiet about. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agency_Workers_Regulations_2010#Scope https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporary_Agency_Work_Directive_2008 7 Likes 7 Shares |

Bourne007: They're much of a muchness - Butlins and Centre Parcs is much more better than both. If forced to choose between both, I'd choose Haven through gritted teeth. The only upside of these places is the built in entertainment and sometimes, they're a bit hit and miss. Look on Airbnb and Booking.com for a full house and negotiate the rate and create your own entertainment. On BDC, you can sometimes find the contact details of the owner and contact them directly. We now almost exclusively travel through house swaps - wish I discovered it earlier! |

Ilekokonit: Very true, but some agencies get around this by bouncing their temps at 11 weeks and rehiring to reset the clock. |

Flying from London Heathrow to Abuja, Nigeria. 1. Pre -Departure PCR test (less than 72 hours): Check 2. Bags packed. Passports Ready. Chocolates purchased. Check. Please, anyone with a very recent experience of travelling INTO Nigeria? Am I expected to book and pay for a PCR CoViD test in Nigeria before departure? If yes. How May I go about it please? I seem to have lost my way trying to get the required information. This is kinda urgent, please. |

moson0821: Bro start considering those care work, super market, warehouse or security jobs. As a student those are the sort of jobs you are most likely to get. Remember that even citizens do those jobs the difference is that they can work full time with full benefits. I wouldn’t encourage you to buy a car now for whatever hustle you have in mind, consider dustydee’s points seriously. You can buy a car for hustle after your graduation and you get the PSW, then you have no restrictions so as to make full use of that car and your time . On a side note … don’t disregard any job if you want to make money and survive in this country. Good luck 3 Likes 2 Shares |

KOVIC19COVID20: Yes. You won’t be allowed to board if you don’t have it. The guide on how to go about it is in the pop up you’ll see when you get on NCDC COVID-19 portal: https://covid19.ncdc.gov.ng/ Try to get this sorted as soon as possible, because there’s been several complaints that the online payment can take too long to reflect. 1 Like 1 Share |
