So rams need a foreign exchange to purchase them? Are they imported?
Re: Sallah: Rams Everywhere, No Money To Buy by Splitmind: 4:49pm On Jul 11, 2021
This is fake news.

Please mods let us be careful when pushing fake stories.

Just the other day, a few friends of mine bought rams for just 50k, rams are cheap and plenty. I'm even glad our President has approved the new minimum wage so many of us can enjoy the celebrations. Cost of buying foodstuffs has also greatly reduced so I don't know what everyone is complaining about.

Economy is not smiling at all but Allah will surely make it easy for us to observe the feast in goodness and joy.

You are very right in your opinion but the difference between the date you compared and the recent is affordability, back then no matter how high they hike the price of food stuffs people will still buy in very large quantities because of the economy but today the problem is not the price but the lack of money
Beancounter93:
Things are bad.

But the problem with this article is that I have been seeing variants of this article for decades now. Infact i recall seeing reports from the 1990s 2000s and even ten years ago on the same theme. Price of ram shooting up.

Once it is holiday time, prices of stuff always go up. The average ram seller is probably trying to make enough cash to balance his books for the year, because in one months time the buyers won't come like before.

Infact most Nigerians do not buy rams except when holidays come up. The only customers for rams the rest of the year are probably butchers and maybe hotels.

All in all if you want cheap meat then we have to.change the way we practice agriculture in this country. Our population is too big to be fed by subsistence farming methods. Time we started things like ranching and other modern large scale farming methods

I have to stop reading halfway since am not interested in buying ram. Not only ram. Even the pepper, vegetable oil that they will use to fry the meat is expensive. Only God will see is through the current hardship

Depends.

In the 1980's we had many of the same problems we have now.

Nigeria relies on oil, and has done so since the 1970's. Once oil prices go up the economy 'looks good' , once prices drop, the economy goes with it.(Read about the resource curse...then you will get why our economy is bad now, and was bad in the past. In the 1980's people used to groan about Nigerians eating from the dustbin! Where Buhari fails is in his response to the problem).

At any rate, even back then, people did not buy ram enmasse. Looking back at my growing up years, we bought ram on the average once a year, maybe once every 2 years (Christian family)...this is the pre- indomie generation era by the by.

The problem with Nigeria's food production really is that subsistence farming cannot feed all of us. We gat to modernize our agriculture...to a point where we can get much out of little. That's why the USA, despite having less than 4% of its people in farming, is a net food exporter...including of beef.

We never experienced it this bad during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan...

I remember when GEJ distributed Sugar, Flour, Food Items and Love during the 2014 Sallah period, but under the leadership of General Buhari, who's currently the world most useless President, he's distributing Hardship, Sorrows, Pains and Insecurity at Sallah.

Lol..because under GEJ oil was between $91-130, especially over $100 per barrel in 2012-14 , and began falling in that same 2014 april due to the Saudis playing a game of chicken with US oil suppliers.

The income from oil was high enough to get away with all that.

We can't do that because oil has been below $80 since 2014...and even as low as $20-30 at some points. At the end of the day, we have to take loans to make up our losses. Which is why APC is a failure...they are busy waiting for oil to rise again. Instead of evolving solutions.

And as a child in the 1980's , I used to hear similar talk about how things were so good in the 1973-82 period...including how one could buy a fan for N16, and a car for N500-1000 !

Resource curse things. wink

okay now I get your point so you are trying to say the challenge is with our farming culture, well that's very true but I commented based on the title Rams everywhere but no money to buy that is to say the Rams are available but not very affordable

Lack of exposure dy worry many of you people, I'm sure you've never left your region for you to assume the south has more purchasing power than the north.
In the North, you'll see a man selling pepper and beans controlling millions, the only thing is you can't guess an hausa man's account balance just by his looks, xoo stop decieving yourself boy.
richmond500:
cost of items and purchasing power are two different things, while the south has a higher purshasing power than the north, cost of food items is also higher in the sou..... U know what, just forget it and do have a nice day.

Happy sunday
