No Finland is not officially a scandinavian country. Finland is a nordic country though.

Finland is a parliamentary republic

Finland is mostly made up of Finnish people but the number of immigrants is rising fast. If you go to Helsinki the capital of Finland you will see many people of different nationalities.

If you have a higher education degree you can get a good paying job. More easier if you speak a bit of Finnish too. If you dont have a higher education degree you will only get the lowest paying jobs in the country. LinkedIn shows availible jobs here in Finland.

What does Finnish beer taste like?

And what's the most popular brand over there?

Is prostitution legalized in Finland?

What is the charge for possession of hard-drugs like cocaine if arrested ?

Since you’ve been around Nairaland what are your perceived nuances between Nigeria and Finland on the following subjects:
1. Music.
2. Communication etiquette.
3. Subjects of discussion on Internet forum.

How did you find Nairaland? What do you find most interesting about Nigeria and Nigerians.

Thanks.

So what are the other regional countries that make up the nordic membership ?

What is the country's population ?

Are you Finish or an immigrant ?

Can you tell me something about the Finish culture ?

Thanks.

I think Finnish beer tastes ok it isn’t my favorite tho. Im not sure whats the most popular brand but probably Karjala, Koff or Karhu. Alcohol is very popular in Finland. We drink the most of all nordic countries. Another thing about Finnish alcohol culture is that we are not social drinkers we drink to get drunk. grin

Prostitution is legal in Finland if it doesn’t involve human trafficking or a love-vendor which it usually does. Most of the women are trafficked from eastern europe.

Maxinum sentence for a minor drug crime is 2 years. Finnish prison sentences are very short. The life sentence is only 20 years.

Finnish music is very depressive and we mostly sing about death, heartbreak, pain etc. Finnish pop music just doesn’t hit me not sure why. I dont understand all the words that is said in nigerian music but even when talking about different topics it just gives a different vibe. The music feels authentic and alive not like Finnish music that leaves you sad all the time.

I haven’t met much nigerians irl since i dont live in Helsinki so i cant really say anything about communication. However about internet behavior, Finnish people are very shy in real life but very unfiltered on the internet. So my question is do nigerians act the same way on the internet as they do irl or do they act differently like some of us do.

The subjects here are very different than what we would discuss in Finland. Its kind of sad to see that on the front page its always something about bandits or murder. I wish a peaceful Nigeria to yall.

I find many cultures interesting. African culture is something people really dont know here so i thought it would be interesting to find out about it. Since Nigeria is the most largest county in africa i looked it up and found nairaland.

I find diversity the most interesting about people. In Finland we only have a one ethnic group but in Nigeria you have many with their own culture and traditions.

The nordic countries are Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland.

Finlands population is 5,5 million.

Im Finnish.

We are very shy people and we like our personal space. Not when it comes to saunas though. Sauna is a very essential part of Finnish culture and every house has one. Basically its a hot room where you sit and sweat. When you sit in a sauna you go there naked. There is alot of public saunas here where people just sit naked with each other. In Helsinki there is a sauna that both men and women go to. Odd compared to the fact that we are scared to sit next to someone on a bus.
(Heres a sauna. Censored tho)

Hi there!
I'm curious to know which rabbit hole led you down to Nairaland.
Is English used as a medium of instruction in Finnish schools?
How receptive are Finns to Expats/Immigrants who have learnt the language? and do lots of Finns immigrate to other countries?

Wow ! That's interesting, the Sauna stuff.
I briefly heard something about it when i was in Britain in the early eighties but not in details like this.
I guess this must be due to your weather, right ?
How many months of warm weather do you experience in the year ?

Talking about public saunas, how do strangers of opposite gender manage to sit half-naked (not really naked, is it?)
It's interesting.

Your country-side must be a beauty to behold !

Thanks.

I dont remember exactly what I searched it was probably something about Lagos and I just stumbled upon this website.

English is not used as a medium of instruction in Finland. There are a few english language private schools. Finland has two official languages Finnish and Swedish thats why we have to study it in school. Its kinda useless since only a few people actually speak it in their home.

If you are a immigrant/expat who has learned the Finnish language we have the utmost respect for you since you have decided to learn one of the most hardest languages in the world.

Finns dont emigrate in big numbers but some finns move to Sweden for example because they have family there or they speak the language.

Saunas are not about the weather it’s just a bathing thing. Our weather is horrible though and we only have 4 months of warm weather (late may-august).

Saunas are deeply rooted in finnish culture so we just undestand that its not ok to act weird in the saunas. Still there has been a few sexual harrasment incidents in public saunas. And yes we sit fully naked in saunas.

I did visit a public sauna in London about a decade ago. An experience I will never forget, after a night of clubbing. I would have never thought a place like that existed. It was more or less like the picture of what the OP shared, without the towels.

Is financial achievement and possession deeply rooted in Finnish culture? In Nigeria, a person without money is a non-living thing.

Not really. The standards of living here are very high. Even the poorest person here has a house. Homelessness is basically non existent. We have this government institution called KELA that gives money away to people in need like unemployed people and students. Why some people here are poor usually stem from bad life decisions such as drug/alcohol abuse and gambling.

Beautiful.
Is this a rice field of something.

Does Finland have coastline, beaches, rivers and lakes ?

Nigeria is bordered in the south by the Actlantic ocean, have a lagoon in Lagos and several large rivers like Niger and Benuen. Very richly blessed with rivers all over.

Im not sure what they are farming there but probably cereal or grain.

Finland has a south coast and a west coast. From the east we are completely bordered by Russia as you can see from the pic. We have a lot of lakes thats why Finland is called the land of a thousand lakes. You can find a lake everywhere. There are some nice beaches but the water is usually cold. Heres a few pics of Helsinki beaches.

No. Carrying a gun in public is very illegal. There is not a need for guns for protection because its super safe here. The Finnish police is very reliable and its ranked the least corrupt in the world so its better to leave security matters to them.

Oh, how beautiful.
The land of a thousand lakes.
You must be a nation of happy people.

How's the society in terms of the rich and the poor. Do you have such sharp contrast between the rich and the poor or wealth is shared across the societal strata ?

What are the major sources of revenue for the nation as well as natural resources the nation is blessed with ?

Hi, does Finland operates a sort of CBI or golden visa programs for investors? If yes, can you share link.

What is one of the best if not the best investment type with high yielding returns in the country?

Being a Nordic region and with lesser black population, how do the finns relate with blacks on the streets and in public places like buses, beaches and pubs?

Kiitos
