Again, America has a long standing tradition and they DON'T negotiate with terrorists (in reference to a captured soldier or in cases of hostages etc.. Unless you have a Top Secret Security Clearance and in the know, please say what you know. The Taliban/Afghan deal you're indirectly referring to is about America's troops withdrawal and to bring peace to the region, this has nothing to do with captured Americans.

Now you want to twist things. When the US landed in Afghanistan, one of its objectives was to COMPLETELY kick Taliban out of Afghanistan and they failed. Secondly, it wasn't all about withdrawal. They agreed to halt hostilities too, which was done through Negotiation.

Unless you have another definition of that word, everything is crystal clear. As for hostage situations, neither you nor I can know about that just like in the case of Nigeria and bandits/boko haram. It's usually top-secret

In modern warfare, invasion is no longer determined by number of troops, but by air dominance. Isreal can cripple Nigeria's military in hours and subdue the whole country, though policing the country might be difficult, but if the intent is to teach Nigeria a big lesson by hitting the military hard, they'll do it in a day.
