Read your own comment. The annual ish coincided with world wars. WW1 1914-1918, WW2 was around 1945. 1920-27 were years after the First World War.

During the most peaceful time in the 21st century national football tournaments were held less frequently. And football as we know it didn’t start in 1917 or 1946 when America was bombing the hell out of Hiroshima.

Well... This is another discourse entirely cos the person I'm refuting is claiming that
1... It has never been held annually
2... That it was staged every year cos of messi, thus it shouldn't be taken serious.
