@OP
why don't you just ask your employer directly?. . .far better to me than maaking a blind decision. Roughly 80K per month + or- 10k IMO.

blank: 30k a month

For Federal University, the salary grade is from CONUASS 1 to 7. 1 being Graduate Assistant and 7 being Professor. A Graduate Assistant is entitled to N57,000/month basic salary. There are other allowances that can get it to N80k-N90k/month. Professors earn 400k-450k/month.

It takes up to 23yrs to move to professorship position for a regularly promoted lecturer which is a minimum of three years and if your Head of Department is notjealous. But you need to write scholarly papers locally and internationally published. you can't go pass the Senior Lecturer position( CONUASS 5) if you dont have a PhD especially now. In Nigeria universities, people have been known to do a PhD for 10yrs!

Polytechnics lecturers are started with 75-80k/month.

If you ever get into academics, change lives and your life will be changed! There are pleasure to be derived from building lives than monetary gains. It does come anyway! Goodluck in your endeavour.

dirtymoney: depends actually on ur qualification. Ma mum works in a bursary department of a polytechnic, while preparing salaries for staffs, i usually help in sorting out some stuffs at d office. I cnt really be sure, but d hnd grad starts wit 90+, while a bsc holder 110 and above. Like i said, thats wot i usually see.. I dnt knw d breakdwn and i dnt tink there is a specifix amount sir.

That's cool with me o.

most of the responses given are correct or close. I graduated 1st class and was retained. the salary plus allowances added up to about 70k (that was in 2008). i left for a multinational which offered 3x for a start plus lots of perks. though it is painful to see students at home, i now fully understand and support lecturers strikes. it's unfair for one to have studied hard and graduated well and be paid pea nuts to teach when the lay abouts and half seriuos students who graduated with 3rd class, pass and 2'2s are cruising in banks and big companies through connections. though in the long run, lecturing will pay off and guarantees a better retirement (but like someone stated, u have to acquire higher degrees and write alot) i am of the school of thought that lecturers are highly underpaid.
