I know it's shameful and painful that your lowly and cowardly ancestors were sold like okrika by the tiny Itshekiri grin cheesy

Ignorance go kill you,who told you Ikas were ever slaves to benins?

We are not benin,Esans,Igalas,Ndokwa,Aniocha and Igbos were are Ikas

We only acknowledge our amcestry from those group.

Ikas were never slave not even the benins will say that. Many Ikas are most royalties, warrors and farmers from benin.

Look I know what I am saying Ikas were already existing even before Oramiyan came from Uhe(ile-ife).

We were already existing as at the time of ogisos.

Just because we refuse to drop our Identity and pick Igbo identity,Igbos have decided to use their propaganda against us........

Ika people must be special for Igbos to take our matter for head....

You must be stupid, way did he say Ika people?

Look blood relationship,we have with benin is too deep.We were never slaves,we even fought the benins sometimes when we have disagreement.

Your hatred for Ika people will destroy you.

It is only Ika people who were able to fight and give our bini brothers trouble....

Mhennnn you're talking story o. Reno is very learned and is a royal descendant. The people who fits the description we all know is Ika people and some other groups in Anioma. You are all descended from Bini slaves gosh.

Ask around, only Ika people were good at fighting the Oba and even when it comes to diabolism, binis are very careful with Ikas because we are too good at it.

In past when there is a threat to binis, they will seek assistance from Ika worriors to join them to fight.Like the benin/Idah war.
Ikas assisted the benins.

It is Ika that Reno is talking about, that is rather obvious. If Bini came to ask their former slaves to assist then it means the slaves remained loyal to Bini even in freedom. Very shocking.

Many Ikas you see today especially the elite are from mainly ancient royal houses Even right from the time of Ogisos.

In agbor today, after the dein then Jim Ovia family is the most powerful by tradition .Jim Ovia himself is an Ika man of bini ancestry.

Even Okowa, their family came from benin.

The founders of Idumesah are Esan people from Ugboha led by a certain man I can't remember his name now.....My mother is that lineage.

Later Ndokwa and Aniocha people settled among the esan who came first.

In Idumesah today, there is one quarter that produce the Okparu-Uku(Big Okpara) and the 3 quarters will produce their okpara to lead them.

Even there are older people in other three quarter, they can be crown okpara-uku.It is only people from my quarters that must get that position.Once you crown the okpara of that my mum quarter, authomatically you become Okpara-Uku of them entire Idumesah.

Other okparas in the other 3 quarters may be your senior by age but they must pay homage to you as their new leader.Just like in UAE were the king of abu-dhabi becomes the president of the country automatically when he become the king.

Initially Idumesah was made up of 7 quarters, but people in the three quarter letter return to were they came from, some remained and resettled among the modern 4 quarters of today.

My mother and her people are given that priviledge because their ancestor from ughoha settled first before the Ndokwa and aniocha people..

That's very good. Your first 3 paragraphs actually somehow confirm what Reno says. They were slaves to Bini. This talk of being royal blood in Bini is a big fat lie. The Bini are not like that at all to accept slaves as royal bloodline. Big fat lie and very disgusting behavior from you.

I'll be blunt here. Na una, Ika people he is referring to as the slaves.
No need to write long grammar, we all know. Even Uniben teach it in GST124 (Nigeria people and culture)
You people put up a rebellion and decided not pay tribute one time and the Oba sent his son to put you slaves in line.

This narrative is totally correct as buttressed by the narrative of Olaudah Equaino (Olaudeh Ekweano) who stated that his Igbo community had to pay tributes to the Bini king

The next question is "And so what?" These things happen. Nations conquered others.
Did the British nation not come later and make a total mess of the Bini Empire - destroyed 95% of their buildings and looted them to stupor. It happens. SO WHAT?

Lesson here is it is time for Igbos to Unify and Rise. Be your brother's keeper. The sky is your starting point

We should change the name of this site to IgboStoryLand, it seems the level of bias against Igbos is astronomical.
The stories that drive traffic here are Igbo related, Nigerians are really intrigued by that beautiful tribe cheesy
This story will get to page 5 in a few minutes of posting with lots of anti Igbo vitriol.

When they thought that Igbos were down Obi Cubana and his friends pulled a surprise and grounded every other events in the country and focused it on Oba, Anambra for a whole week.

Nnamdi Kanu makes news here every despite being in detention, tomorrow Nigeria plays Argentina in the Olympic basketball games both men and women, the language of those games will be Igbo as 13 out of 15 players are Igbos with 6 playing in the NBA.

IGBO SLAVES AMONG THE ITSEKIRI?

So yesterday, an Itsekiri fellow on Facebook made the interesting claim that his people had many (emphasis on 'many') Igbo slaves. He went further to say that some of the descendants of these Igbo slaves still live in Delta State, and speak a hybrid language which he refused to mention. In the interest of intellectual discourse he probably should have mentioned it, and given interested parties the opportunity to verify or debunk the claims.

As far as the ethnic backgrounds of slaves in Itsekiri land is concerned, this is what the historian P. C. Lloyd wrote in his paper, "The Itsekiri in the Nineteenth Century: An Outline Social History":

Lloyd wrote: "A further change in Itsekiri social structure during the century was the development of domestic slavery. At the turn of the century the king held a large number of slaves, but the number owned by the chiefs is not known. The kingdom must have exported at least a thousand slaves annually. But with the decline of the slave trade, the supply did not cease, and slaves were integrated into the Itsekiri economy. Thus of Jakpa's 5000 people, Burton estimated that 600 - 700 were slaves of Diare. Olomu's slaves were variously numbered at 1000, 3000 and 4000.

"The slaves were never Itsekiri, rarely Ijoh. Most were Urhobo, often being men and women expelled from their communities for serious offences and sold in the riverside markets. Some were given to the Itsekiri as pledges for debts. The Itsekiri usually equate the price of a slave with a puncheon of oil. They assert that they never went to a war to capture slaves, though a favourite method of settling a debt or a quarrel was to seize a man's slaves. Other slaves came through the trade routes from Benin and Yoruba country where they had been captured in inter-tribal wars. Nana's most senior slaves were Ologun, a Yoruba, and Sagay, a Benin."

*Sagay is very clearly a corruption of the Bini name Osagie.

So there you have it. Itsekiri's slaves came primarily from the Urhobo; secondarily from the Yoruba and the Bini; and sometimes (though rarely) from the Ijọ. These are the people in the same geographical area as the Itsekiri and the people with whom they were involved in regular interactions. But our Itsekiri friend went over the heads of his neighbours to look for slaves among the Igbos located farther away.

I was going to just laugh at the story and go on with my business, but I realized there are Igbo people who may not be informed enough to see that this man lied through his teeth, hence my decision to talk about it here.

For foolish ones among us following #RenoOmokri

The problem with Igbos is unity. With unity and great unselfish leadership, they can become formidable in Africa. This statement is not a call to seccession please.
