Not Urhobo slaves, but the kingship in Urhobo land pays homage to the King in Benin.

In past time, when an Urhobo king dies, the head is cut off and sent to Bini kingdom for keeps. The new selected king has to go to Benin to pick his late fathers skull, if he picks the wrong one, he is killed.

lekki was initially called Ẹki, the esan word for market. That was where Yoruba slaves were sold. Idumagbo was initially idumuigbon the esan word for slave quatets.
