It's also telling that the ambassador is comparing modern Nigeria to the China of the 1920s.

Dirt Poor and broke.

It shows how backward Nigeria is.

That means we are probably in the state that America was in the 19th century.

Maybe if China were the country that colonized Nigeria, they would have been giving a helping hand in times of insecurity in Nigeria especially now cos the English men the colonized Nigeria doesn't care about Nigeria.

Invitationn:

It's of mutual benefit because they're building infrastructures in our country with the loans and to them, they get their money back with interest. Also, more Chinese are doing businesses in Nigeria like never before.
Their construction companies are also the ones doing the projects.
To if Nigeria does not pay back.
Why won't we pay back??
If we don't pay back like you said, then the Chinese invokes the terms in our contracts.
Question now is, did we signed that our sovereignty be taken if we default?
Agreement is sacred!
If we did, then so be it!

You too haven't answered the simple question

Chinese, I thought they were setting new terms and conditions on a new loan request from Nigeria which made Nigeria to divert its search for creditors to UK.

I also think the Chinese ambassador is being economical with the truth here.

There are real life examples of China taking over nations.

Nations that are now sovereign in name only.

Go to Zambia, the Chinese run them there thanks to debt trap.
It's basically a Chinese colony in Africa.

Go to Sri lanka, China has taken the port of hambantota because they couldn't pay back.
China owns it for the next 100 years.

Go to Gambia, China has wrecked their beaches by industrial extraction of sand, and overfishing of their waterways.
They have taken over Gambia.

These are a few of the Countries in the China debt trap.

If Nigeria does not pay, China will collect one or way or the other.

The only thing that is stopping from being aggressive is because of the west.

The west is watching.
This is Africans keying into the western media anti-china propaganda.
Did you know that the US is the most indebted country in the world?
The US is owing China over a $Trillion.
It's funny how the US media houses be like; Yes we owe China over a $Trillion and our sovereignty is intact but countries like Nigeria owing China some meager few $Billion are walking into a debt trap.
The Chinese just acquired port Haifa in Israel to be managed and operated by them for a period of 25years.
The Israelis, just like many EU countries are also recipients of the BRI loans.
Yet they shout debt traps because they see African countries shunning the IMF and world bank.

They are certainty gunning for sovereignty but they won't do it in an obvious or official manner, but when they control important infrastructures and larger part of our economy. Then what next?

The big question is, who in their right senses borrows money without an intention to repay? Why should Nigeria borrow money with an intention to default on the loan? If we can't repay, CHina should hijack whatever they want to hijack; nonsense!

A few months ago, China bought massive size of land for 200 million $ in the costal area of Sierra Leone and wants to develope it into a Chinese city. Sierra Leone is rich in diamond and this could as well be their target. Their eyes might be on Niger Delta oil.

Aaaaahhhh

How are the loans of mutual benefit?

If Nigeria does not pay back what are your plans of getting your money back?

Mr chinko man, you didn't explain well.

There are hidden things in this explanation.

Is it not not the same money we use to pay back loans we will use to buy those items if we really want them?

Are you saying we should wait to save money for say 10 years before we have enough money to embark on the rail projects? Rather than have it now, use it, get the benefits and pay back gradually.

Why are you advocating the model that made Itakpe warri rail take 33 years to complete while the Chinese financed Lagos Ibadan double track rail took only 4 years.
Is it that you hate your country or yourself so much you don't like seeing things getting done?

Build the railway to Niger republic.

My cousins are there.

We will subsidize the ticket fares for them and owe China..

If China takes over our railways and run the sector for the next 100 years, why exactly should that be a concern to me, given the current status of things today? Would it stop ordinary Nigerians from using the trains?

If China takes over ownership of our airport buildings and run them for the next 100 years, how exactly does that affect me negatively in comparison with the way things are run now under the control of Nigerian govt? Will ordinary Nigerians be forced to sit in cargo compartments of planes? Wouldnt the airports and the trains even be managed better than they're currently run?

The so called sovereignty we keep worrying about, of what value has that sovereignty been to me or to any Nigerian in the last 60 years? PRIDE?

Meanwhile the amount Nigeria currently owes China is even less than $5bn; that amount can easily be repaid by even state governments. So why's there so much uproar about these Chinese loans?

I don't think china is planing to hijack our sovereignty, these loans can be paid in exchange of crude, the only thing i see is china taking any of our mult-naltional company when it passes the time to pay back the loan which is not anytime soon.

Don't mind those wishing for doom on their country. They are confused and shocked at the little progress.

Since 2017 when Abuja-Kaduna rail loan became due, we've paid 30% back. In 8 years from now only 10% will be left and the railway still has at least another 80 years of service left.
