In early 19 centuries igbo have started going for competitions abroad

Evidence are there
The first Nigeria flag by Britain
Star of David was inscribed on it
It was a symbol of authority in igbo religion and culture
Gad brought it
Till now it is still a symbol of authority in some part of igbo land

Delusion, you have been in your region for thousand of years. You are not gad or David, DNA doesn't agree with your claim

Benin territory
Though there was nothing like benin in those days
Igodomigodo is an ancient name far more older than the name benin
And igodomigodo are igbo people
That migrated towards west on expansion
During the fracas in that kingdom they left in drove,
Some stop at the road known as
Igbo bi nu uzo (igbo uzo)
Now called ibuza
Some made ways towards the east
Stop At onitsha
Some went further into anambra
Ozu ubulu
Some went into river state

Igbo started travel early 80s when they were introduced to drugs trafficking.
SlyDev:
When we are talking about civilizations and commerce. Hausa Yoruba and Bini no be Igbo mate at all! Hausa and yoruba for example control trade route from here to Timbuku to Tripoli. Oyo had relationship with Gobir, nupe, igala hausa kanuri and even fulani, Google this and find out. The highest igbo trader had travel was into their conqueror kingdom Igala and into Cameroon.

Don't start what you can't finish. It's rain(lugard) that brought bird and hen together, them no be mate.

I agree with you, more reason history should be returned to the academic curriculum.

History can only make sense if it goes side by side with anthropology and archaeology. It has to be traced, tracked, observe and proven for it to make sense. Understanding the past helps to illuminate the present and the future.

This is good thread but please can you stop the Yoruba and Bini banters.
The title of this thread isn’t doing much justice to very educative content.

Okpogo or okpogho is a term I’ve heard and I’ve used in the past to refer to money. I thought it was just some ordinary slang. I didn’t know the meaning was deeper than that. People from Imo/Abia use it a lot even till date.

I just read that the name means money in Efik...

However in the 40s, the British had problem trying to phase it out. The campaign met with lots of difficulties as Igbos continued to use it. It wasn’t until 1949 that the effort to discontinue its use became successful.

Pls change the title. It’s ruining the thread.
