Everything is going wrong for TeamNigeria. From disqualified athletes, to this one experiencing 'muscle pull' during a final race not forgetting the Male basketball team that did wonderfully well in friendlies prior to the Olympics but suffered 3 straight defeats.

Friendlies, especially before tournaments, are not a good way of assessing how well a team would do in the tournament proper.

1.Nigeria's dream team 1 before Atlanta 96 played a friendly against Shooting stars of Ibadan. Drew 1-1. Were dry in the match. Reason (as my dad told me back then)..they were playing to avoid injury.

2.Former East Germany 's football team used to win all their friendlies. And they qualified for, out of a possible 8 world cups, one. Just one.

A Nigerian made it to the 100m final for the first time but had a disappointing race. He's d second Nigerian Athlete to have muscle pull while racing

That's not the first time a Nigerian has made it to the 100m final at the Olympics.

1992...The Ezinwa brothers

1996...Oladape Adenekan

Even 2004...we had two guys of Nigerian descent , but no Nigerian in the final.

The winner of the 100m gold medal Marvell Jacobs is mixed race. African american father and italian mother.
Now social media is at war with both Americans and italian claiming him.
I thought it's only we Nigerians that like to do attache and claim other nations success.

Jamaica has a long and illustrious history in track events (google Arthur Wint ).

Also, they have a good structure /youth competition system. (Google boys and girls race).

Nigeria used to have some of that in the 1960's and 70's and even 1980's...but then we dismantled it.

But mind you, Jamaica is poor in most other sports (Football...atrocious, basketball, nowhere, field events...zero, boxing...zero) except cricket.

Everybody does it (David Alaba is claimed by Austria, the Phillipines, and Nigeria for example.)

Infact i saw an article in a Filipino online publication claiming that Alaba was a very successful Filipino athlete.

Every country does it...sports, entertainment, etc.

Just yesterday, I was reading on why black people seem to excel in athletics, particularly track and field. Its no surprise the Italian is also a black man!
As usual... the Jamaican women made it a clean sweep. The last two decades, US rack team de fumble.

No it is a sign of how African countries don't spend enough on athletics.

Like now, does your state, for example, have a year long, interschool athletics league that runs all year...(thought not).

Does your state have a basketball league that covers all the schools in your state...from primary to secondary school? (Thought not)

Is there a similar competition for the tertiary institutions in your state (nothing ).

And again, when your local government chairman is talking about sports development what does he mean ? (A) FOOTBALL, b) football c) football d) football e) Gymnastics .

How many of your youth play other sports (apart from football and possibly athletics ) in your state...and by youth I mean 5-18 year olds.?

How many coaches are there in your state for the following sports? Basketball, wrestling, volleyball, tabletennis, weightlifitnng, etc etc.

Does your state university or any provate indiuvidual have a sports research institute ?

What programme does your state have for training future statrs

Finally...how much does Nigeria spend on sports in a year a) 400 billion dollars or B) 4 BILLION dollars, or c 4 MILLION dollars. How much does that compare to medal winners like the US, Australia or Canada?

The problem is not the rotten state of the zoo. The problem is, like most African coutnries, we don't have the cash or the people or the expertise to win medals. Fixing that requires we stop relying on oil and diversify our economy, get more people interested in more sports from grassroots up, or train more people, and so on.

Even if we split Nigeria, I guarantee that Biafra would have the same problems, or OODUA or many other nations. As long as all we think of is football.

Tokyo2020

Unfortunately, Nigeria's hopeful, Enoch Adegoke limped off injured, in the last 30 metres of the race.

Also, in the 100m women's final, it was a clean sweep for the Jamaicans as Thompson-Herah clocked an Olympic record time of 10.61 seconds, beating compatriot and two-time Olympics 100m Champion, Fraser-Pryce.

Thompson-Herah beat Griffith Joyner's 10.62 secs record set at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

That Giannis' case...I gave up on him a long time ago

1.He has a very Greek first name (One of his brothers even has the very Greek name of Kostas self?)

2.He spells his surname Greek style...not Naija style.

3.He willingly pursued and got Greek citizenship (even when the right wingers were telling him that he could never be Greek and all that)

4.He even speaks the language, as do his brothers (I once watched Kostas being interviewed on line. jUST 30 Minutes of him speaking Greek. No English or yourba or ibo)

I just dey laugh at Nigerians claiming him. That one has been lost since childhood. Nothing we can do.

Even she herself couldn't believe it, I give it to the Jamaicans for the strength and agility which they exhibited so far in the race.

But kenyas are still the baba for running, my uncle once told me how they chased lions and other wild animals miles away from their residence on barefoot.
Running long distance, not short distance. Kenyans and Ethiopians dominate that field.
