Hey Man,

I had to go to my old mails and search for my password, just so i can give u this advice, i barely have time for this stuff, y because i am in the so called abroad, where to find time to do any thing part from work is a luxury. I live in the UK , and i and my husbands daily prayer is for him to get a job like urs in naija so we can relocate,
you are talking bout relocating with four kids, how old are they ? do u think your wife and u can cop with bringing up kids abroad, do u know the cost of childcare, nannies and childminders,
have you ever seen a 10 year old boy smoke and do drugs or a twelve or thirteen year old single mum?
ps the only advice i have for u is think carefully, u can never eat ur cake and have it,
u earn 300 000 its ur money: minimal tax , and bills, u can eat decent meals, in the UK, yam is about 1500 naira per tuber,
so its not rosy here.
Buy land build a good house with space and enjoy your life, pray to God to protect u from armed robbers and kidnapping, its home, whatever you find in ur home its ur home. every blessed day is agift from God, die anyday happily knowing you spent your life enjoying the company of ur wife, kids and kinsmen, not in some God forsaken strange land looking at stiff lipped white people that feel you are cramping their space.
So ps that your job if you dont want when you want to leave ps send me a mail so i dont mind managing it to leave here and move to naija for my husband to do the job, thank you.

aND EHM IN CASE I FORGET
All those ignorant people talking bout high quality education ps do urself afavor and go to www. notcanada.com,

what is quality about high quality education that cannot get you a high quality job like he has now? high quality education that has left millions of doctors and phd holderrs stranded in canada as cab drivers and security people.
ps if you have not lived abroad before be careful bout the kind of advice given, i emphasize the fact that going abroad should never NEVER be at the expense of a well paying decent professional job in Nigeria,
He that has ears let him heed the advice of they that have gone before him.
thank you

Canada is not the de facto Promised Land it's made out to be. After 10 years here, I can attest to that fact.

However, it may the Promised Land for your life aspiration. If relocating doesn't fit, find a way to land in Canada, go back, and still obtain your citizenship after 3 years.

Earning over equiv. of N300K/month is not herculean in Canada, but a new 45-yr old finds it tougher to earn N70K/month!

All the best!

PS: Hmmm, I see you've decided to ship your wife and kids to Canada, Sofly, softly o, Quiet, godly Nigerian men/women have been known to turn to ashawos when their partners remain back home. They blame it on the c-o-l-d weather smiley

I will not advise you to come and stay, I am in Canada trust me it's not the best.
I will suggest you come and get your citizenship and then decide for yourself.

Lots of people relocate back because the system is not the best
Get ready to use all your pay for rents or mortgage and be ready for lots of bills

Apart from those expenses, if you want to live a better live be ready to pay high insurance for your car.
Infact, life is not the same over here o, it's a bit depressing if you have to use all your money to pay bills and co

I will not discourage you but if you have good money, you can enjoy it here

I see most of the discouragement arises because of the poster's age.
To be honest, I was alarmed myself !!!! I thought only a hopeless person at that age (with a family) would consider the immigration.

How about if the poster were 30 years old and single, and with the job ?

People talk of bills as if someone is forcing them? Bills are what they are. They are meant to be paid no matter how inconvenient.
You pay water, gas, electricity bills etc. . .it is the norm. These are services you used, so pay for them.
I think most folks are maybe spoilt in Nigeria because people hardly pay their bills but do you care to look at how this is affecting the standard of living?
Would you not rather pay your bills for services used rather than paying bills for something you rarely enjoy (NEPA)?

Don't you pay house rent in Nigeria - Agreed the prices maybe higher but what about the comfort and security? And when you say mortgage, it means you sort of "own" a house. You are living good but you must always remember that there are responsibilities that comes with it (the mortgage).

Life itself is a battle but we all can only pray to make the right choices.

Happy New Yr to All! grin grin

Based on my experience, Canada is a good country. It welcomes immigrants no matter where you came from. However, if you have a decent job and live a life in dignity in your country of origin, don't migrate here in Canada. I have nothing against Canada but I feel deceived believing that when the immigration authorities screened your qualifications matching the job opportunities in need here, you thought you will get at least same or almost at same level of opportunity in relation to the profession you had(with very extensive experience) back in your country of origin. All these are not true. Your education and professional experience is not recognized here. You have to start from the bottom again, especially if you do not have that "Canadian experience". Canada do not need doctors, engineers, Masters or PhD's. They already have them here. What they need are labourers. These are the kind of immigrants they need which will also translate to lots of opportunities for the aging population who is retiring. The new immigrants will work to pay the pension of the aging population. This ia the very secret why they need more immigrants. Another reason for attracting immigrants is the money they are bringing in. Just imagine a family of 3, they need to bring in around $12,000 to sustain them while they look for job. Imagine again if there are millions of families migrating a year? Canada will gain a lot of $$. It doesn't matter to the government if you new immigrants will be able to find a decent job or not.

My advise for those who plan to migrate here:
1. Migrate here if you are really poor and many mouths depend on you;
2. If you are still in your early 30's or younger;
3. If you have lots of money (acquired legally or not)and/or wanted in your country, you can come and invest it here;
4. If your country is lawless, people have no respect for life, then Canada is a good place to escape those atrocities.

In fairness to the government of Canada, I suggest that:
1. It will give those immigrants a chance to challenge the licensure exam whose profession are considered regulated, instead of telling them to go to school again plus the apprenticeship time. Most of the immigrants who come here doesn't have the luxury to go to school because the primary concern is to feed their families, pay bills, rents etc. Maybe give them 3 chances to take the exam and if they still fail, then that's the time they will be advised to go back to school.
2. Advertise that what you actually need are skilled labourers for the warehouse, construction industries or just entry level jobs for hospitality, cleaning or health services so that those who are engineers, doctors, IT's and other white collar professionals will be aware of and it will be up to them whether to migrate or not. The important thing is to tell them what to expect and don't give high hopes that they will land a job similar to their profession in their country of origin.
Thanks for giving me the chance to tell the true story! The choice still lies on you who plan to migrate. God bless!

PS. I have been here for 3 years now but I only land a temporary job, like having weekend jobs or those on-call, seasonal basis- mostly in the level of laborers. No true permanent job yet. The stress and anxiety will kill you. Be prepared for that Too! shocked shocked

This is a Million- Naira/Dollar Matter, @ Poster; Thank God u have an Amazing Profession here in Nigeria and coupled with that God has Bless u with Canadian visa travel opportunity, with your Family. Well, u can Strike the Gold by sending your Family over to Canada, get them settled, stay back in Nigeria and work for some more time ( but travel occasionally to see them) when your instincts tells you it is Time to Join them, Move. ( under 2 conditions; 1. That u can get an equal or adequately same type of work offer in Canada. 2.If the Canadian visa process has a limitation, that can say when you need to leave Nigeria for Canada, or the status of the visa process/your Family condition. of course you know, that without Father positions the kids might start misbehaving.

Wish You Luck Sir.

Hello All,

I am a man of 42years with 3 kids. I am currently working with Nigerian biggest Gas company as a contract staff and

on monthly salary of around 300K/month. There is no chance of being converted to staff position, but there is job

security and pension contribution by employer.

Before I got the job five years ago, i started this Canadian immigration process. I haveĀ  lost interest in the whole

process then all of sudden they said my visa is ready.

I have some other investments in Nigeria.

Should I abandon all these and migrate to Canada to start afresh?

Gas is the future, keep your current job, save for a higher degree or a relevant certification and apply to your competitors, you never know, you may become a staff.
