For some time now, I have observed a gender war brewing here in nairaland. Guys and Ladies generalizing and insulting each other with derogatory words each time a thread involving a guy or girl is made. At first I thought it's not something to bother about, afterall, people come here to vent off and may not be as irritating offline as they seem online, but from the quality of comments these days, its something we need to discuss and address at least for the sake of our young ones who visit nairaland to get information. This gender war not only breeds a toxic online environment but it also hinders both male and female members from freely expressing themselves and others from getting reasonable advice. A good example of this is the case of a thread that asked ladies to relate experiences they've had with a lecturer demanding sex and how they handled the situation. The thread hitfront page but to my surprise the first, second and third page of that thread was filled with some male members generalizing and insulting ladies. How do we expect ladies to express themselves freely in such a thread? What do we want our young ladies and guys to gain from that thread? To learn how to Insult? The gender war also brainwashes young male and female members on this forum to have a totally wrong idea on certain important topics or issues. One of such is TheRedPill. Please, let me make this very clear to everyone reading this. Narcissism and Machiavellianism abound in BOTH sexes. TheRedPill simply teaches men most especially those who by nature have a very soft spot for women, how to identify, avoid or treat ladies that use their narcissistic and Machiavelli nature to destroy or tamper with a man's livelihood. It encourages men in general to focus on other productive goals and achievement rather than constantly dissipating energy and cash on women. Insulting, demeaning, degrading or assaulting women has NOTHING to do with TheRedPill. A guy will come here asking for simple advice on an issue in his relationship or marriage and the next thing some irritating male members do in this forum is flood the thread, insulting all women, the guys partner and insulting the guy as well and end their vomit of a comment with "take TRP", thereby making redpillers look like a bunch of dull individuals with no sense of logic or reason. Despite the anonymity that this forum gives to each member, some have to pretend that the issue is not theirs but that of a friend who knows a friend. Some even beg with "PLEASE NO INSULTS" at the end of their need for advice. Is anyone here perfect? Are we here to insult and mock each other for likes in these difficult times or rub minds and share knowledge and information? "You can't tell me what to post or comment". "Na your papa get nairaland?" Fine, I agree, Seun no be my papa, but that doesn't give you the right to brainwash our young ones and derail a thread by generalizing all men to be "s.c.u.m" and all women to be "u.s.e.less vag**a people". There is nothing to gain in all of that. You are killing the quality of the forum. Seun, your moderators are trying their best but please alot of work needs to be done in this area if not nairaland will keep increasing in quantity but decreasing in quality. |

Omo you just shared my thoughts on this whole gender war. Nairaland is a very toxic place just like twitter. The Internet is where people showcase the shittiest version of themselves. Make them anonymous like we have on nairaland and it becomes full blown toxic. The gender war and tribal bigotry on this forum makes me sick in the stomach sometimes. There are some gems on this forum though, that's why I keep visiting. |

Activist001:My fear is losing those gems. Some nairalanders I used to admire dearly no longer visit. One of them said he feels nairaland is for teenagers not for adults. Its very sad honestly. Seun lalasticlala I know threads like this don't deserve front page but please do the needful. |
