A player saying he is fit and him being really fit are 2 different things. Rashford should have thought you a lesson.

If we rush him and he gets injured for 4-6 weeks it would be worse. There is a reason why players have 2-3 weeks preseason.

Thats the reason why he won’t be fit. His last full match was nearly 3 months ago.

Maguire who has taken just a 1 month break would be sharper earlier on compared to a player who took 3 months off.

The reality is plenty of title-winning teams have a position where there may be question marks of some description. When Liverpool won the league in 2020, they didn’t have anyone scoring goals from midfield but Klopp made it work.

Chelsea won the title in 2016/17 after Antonio Conte switched to a back three and improvised with Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso at wing-back. It’s almost like there’s this idea that United have got to spend over £50m in every position before they get to a point where they say: “Oh right, now we can win the league”.

But there will always be some sort of imperfection. There are always areas where you feel you could and should do better.

There’s talk of Solskjaer operating with a more adventurous midfield set-up and playing less frequently with a double pivot, but I find that a little strange to hear.

When Guardiola and Klopp came in, they imposed their vision for the team straight away. They may not have had the players to deliver exactly what they wanted immediately but they had their way and went with it.

Good point but you are omitting some things.

If you don’t have a good squad depth and your competition does and also have a good manager, na luck you go take win the league- unless you have a genius manager.

Your chances of winning are as good as your depth squad- compared with your competitors.

United having the most expensive starting XI is just a statement. It doesn’t mean that they have the best squad. It would’ve been better to scrape off like 2-3m from the purchase of each player and get a good, capable bench option.

Your starting XI might win you games but your squad depth wins you the league.

When Pep lost the league to Klopp, he went and bought more defenders. That’s where he had problems. And Ruben Diaz won him last season’s EPL title.

If Ole fails to get us playing very well in a set up that masks the main deficiency in the team assuming we fail to sign a DM, it's solely on him.
