What actually happened in 1980?

We may need to go back the memory lane and understand most of us ran away from this country in the 80s

Like Dangote, Like Elon Musk.

Until we put a stop to an economy that is creating so much wealth for one segment of the society who choose to borrow from the future while leaving the other segment stucked in an increasingly impoverished present, I’d take all our economic theories as a laughable joke.
There are new rules grin

Dangote o l’ori meji!

Give me $1bn and put me on a level playing ground with these guys and leave all those dollars has gone up, inflation, pandemic stories.

Remember I said this:

I’m so worried about the future of this country because we can’t grow this way.

Our markets and economies are getting the result for which it was designed for. That’s why it’s pretty easy for a man to move from $25bn to over $200bn in less than 12 months.

You are blaming the wrong people next
You are blaming the wrong people.

Dangote like every business man is busy taking advantage of loopholes and lack of action from govt against cooperations
If you are a business man. You will always take advantage of loopholes and acts of people not doing what they are supposed to do

Elon musk is way different.
People are shifting to electric vehicles
Especially in the Us and China
And he is producing the very best.
Plus his stocks are trading great.
He is doing what everybusiness man should do

You don't expect him not to grow

You yourself you are growing.

You keep mentioning dangote
Dangote has lost much of his wealth to this same govt that is not progressing.

Dangote is not the only business man in Nigeria

We are all just fixed on him.

Why is electric tarrifs increasing
Why is food price increasing
Why is everything increasing.
It cos people lost jobs

Production slowed
And everything was on standstill in 2020

Like someone said earlier
The amount you are billing people for duplex in 2018 and now is different
I am talking about the money you Bill not material things

Why have you not yourself stayed stagnat and not increase the bill

See
It's just that people need to work harder.
But we need to start electing the real people

That's why I consider China the best country on earth

They only appoint people who know and are ready and trained for the job

Not people getting the job because of popularity

He he!!!

The growing rate of imbalance between the wealthy and the rest of us is a reflection of how public policies are formulated to be more responsive to the preferences of the wealthy.

If we keep assuming Nigeria’s economy is something you can read up, you’re missing it completely.

As we are quick to mention the increase in prices of raw materials because of higher demand (higher productivity), inflation, pandemic etc we should not forget that the wages of over 80% of the populace have remain stagnant.

I’ll also not forget to remind us that corporations have become larger, more powerful, and more profitable within their less competitive market sectors, which has led to higher prices and zero innovative businesses, lower wages, and less worker autonomy.

Until we tackle and rebalance the extreme concentration of economic control in the hands of a small number of corporate and financial organizations, this problem will remain with us for much longer.

By the way, who do you think the newly proposed N380/ltr petroleum price will favour most? Nigerians or a Nigerian!

________

Chairman, don’t forget to post your 60 months not 6 months profit like your fellow Nigerians below. cheesy

Oga Brabus..

On one hand, you’re saying economic policies deliberately favor the rich. While this may be true, as we are in a capitalist society, another angle is that the Rich always adjust themselves and find avenues to makes money whatever the policies.

On another hand, you’re pinning it on Dangote - the inflation in the building market.. he’s not responsible for it. That’s my point.

He, as with all other big players, are simply adjusting for inflation.

When cement was 2500, dollar was 350 to 1 naira. That means 6.67$ for a bag.

Now, dollar is 520. Same 6.7$ is now about 3500 in naira.

I used to critic Dangote for bullying smaller companies but now I even pity Him. How can your business grow when inflation eats up all your growth. And if he increases prices, he sells lesser because of the reduced purchasing power of the people.

This is not completely true though.

I can share my BOQ for a duplex in 2014 and BOQ for the same in 2020.

I’ve done a job here that I had around N4.5m on carcass of a storey building in 2013. That’s almost half the cost of building a duplex in some area now.
Even if you’re building 7 flats, I doubt any contractor can hit that figure in today’s economy.

As a matter of fact, our costs have gone so low compared to what we used to charge 7 years ago.

I can share my documents though to compare our rates 10 years ago and now.

More importantly, now that we have too many entrants in the construction industry, you just have to lower your pricing in order to stay competitive.

Do you think I’m investing in tools and machinery just to show off? No, na!
That’s the only way I can stay competitive and remain relevant in the volatile market.

It’s not even now that every customer is looking for ways to save every penny on their projects that one will be talking of hefty price tags.

I’m not pinning egbon Dangote o or all the other unknown Dangotes in our economy.

Just help me tell him that I know why the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer in modern economies.
Both of them are actually living in two different economies, which operate by different rules.

One exists in a world where a dollar is a dollar like you’re telling me the dollar value of one bag of cement and iron rods in 2020 and 2021. He will have to work more to afford what he could easily buy 2 years ago.
The other lives in a world where a dollar is valued by its future value. He borrows interest free loans from the future to participate in a volatile market.

If you know, you know.

By the way, they’re in business to make profits.

Well done sir!

I’ve not but I’ve seen people do it and I’ve also some unique louvre design ideas in modern builds.

Thanks. These are rather fancy, would need to be bespoke, so much too expensive for a kobokobo project.

That’s what you think. I can source all the materials used here from building materials secondhand dealers.

I got some nice 1980 louvred windows with some 25mm iron burglar bars for just N4,700 2 months ago.

When polished and sprayed, you can achieve the above without breaking bank.

depends on the type of handrail is it plasma screen of wroungt iron(imported)?

( A) If any of those two then it can cost that much. (B) if stainless, wrought iron (local), mild steel or galvanized steel pipes those are cheaper and can be between 18-25/sqm

Pic 1and 2 if for category A and Pic 3and 4 for category B

it's not really that expensive if you factor in the current cost of materials and the value you are getting
