Please my people, on my i-20 family member is stated on it as my sponsor and I sent my sister's statement of account to the school. On filling my Visa application I'm confused with the option to choose which are a) child b) parent c) spouse d) other relative e) others. Please for those of us that used our sisters or aunty, which should i choose and since my i-20 has family can I changed from sister to aunty while attending my interview before the VO and it's also a different surname too that we bears. Please someone should assist in answering this question. Thanks. We shall all sing glory songs at the end of our struggle

Other relative is your best option and since the school use family fund, you can use either sister or aunt depending on the one you have her bank account document. You just need to have a cogent reason why she willing wish to support you.

If you didn't pick up for a long certain period, the document will be sent back to the embassy.

Hey there. That’s correct that there’s the 120 days rule which states that F-1 visas can’t be issued no more than 120 days before the start of program. However I came across some info which says it’s alright to go due to covid-19 issues. I’m not totally sure if you can bank on that. I’d advise you to send an email using the feedback on cgi portal to check if it’s OK to still attend in August or send an email to the NIV section of Lagos/Abuja embassy? The other option would be to reschedule.
Maybe some one else on here that has gone through this can give a better insight.

Thank you very much for your comment, I really appreciate it

Hello house! I got admission to for masters to a school in the USA early this month (august). Just finished up all i need to do, paid my SEVIS fee, submitted my DS-160 form and paid the fee. However on trying to book an appointment, i found out the earliest day is June of 2022. The resumption date for my classes is early January 2022. I decided to try emergency/expedite appointment; but on reading the instructions to qualify for that the resumption date has to be within 60days. I’m bewildered as I would think 3months plus is more than enough time to get a visa appointment
Please help!!!!!!

Don’t loose hope. You have to keep checking the page daily. Days comes out randomly. Try also to check at midnight and 5 a.m. Good luck

I started applying late june, that was when my i20 was approved, and since then none could get a date, after using at least 2 weeks each with it. I'm just tired

I'm a software engineer and I got accepted into an internship program in California. I applied for visa with my husband. We got married nine months ago. Exchange programs usually require that you have a visa sponsor, so you pretty much do all of your documentation with them first. Then they register you on the SEVIS database once you have competed all your documentation.

For the records, the marriage certificate we submitted was the one obtained from the mosque where we got married. And I didn't change my name after I got married.

Initial date scheduled: July 2022

First expedited request was submitted on 14th of July and it was rejected. I guessed it was because I didn't attach any document. Then I read online that you need to attach DS-2019 and SEVIS fee payment receipt. So a colleague in the US helped me with the payment and it reflected on the portal after three days because he used the mailing option. I sent in another emergency request and it was approved after one week.

Expedited date: August 19th 2021

VO: What are you studying
ME: Currently pursuing a degree in *** at UNILAG

VO: what type of degree
ME: Masters degree

VO: is ****** a company or a school?
ME: it's a company

VO: How long will this internship last?
ME: 1 year

VO: will you be leaving your degree and concluding it when you return?
ME: I am currently writing my research and I would be defending in a few weeks time.

VO: is this program part of your degree. Or a separate arrangement?
ME: Its a separate arrangement

VO: ***Types and looks at my DS-2019. Then hands me a booklet. And said: if your rights as an employee in the US is violated, feel free to contact this organisation. Ensure you go through it when you get home. I would be approving your Visa.

My husband want not asked any question.

All the best folks. Ensure you are confident during your interview. I posted this because there is limited information on exchange visitor visas on nairaland

Hey! Congrats on your approval. I started a thread on J1 exchange visitor visa info.
Could you please post your transcript on there?
Thanks.

You need a pre-med degree before you can go to medical school in the states.
Even their citizens take loans to go to med school. It would be difficult to find scholarships for US med schools.

But before anything, you need a pre-med major.

Hello guys, If one already has an interview date and the emergency request is no longer available in the cgi portal, can emergency approval be granted by sending mails to the embassy?

CelinaAK:
I just want to give hope to anyone here. I applied for EA in Abuja about 2weeks ago and I got approved but I was not lucky enough then because the earliest available date then was 17th August, Yesterday I applied to another EA because I still had that on my profile and I got my EA approved again that same yesterday, was not even up to 30 minutes in Abuja and got a favorable date in 11 August. I got two EA approvals in a space of 1 week. Please if you still have EA in your portal, request for another immediately especially if it’s in ABUJA. You meant just get it this time around. If they are yet to respond to you, keep sending emails. They surely do read our emails.

I need advice.
A friend wants to apply for PTA. He had already booked flight with Delta airline and he booked one way ticket. Now he is told that he has to book return ticket and money isn't really available.
Please is there any bank he can apply for PTA without this return ticket?
As it is becoming a huge challenge

No bank will give you pta without return ticket.

What some people do (I strongly advice against such) they book a flight with return tkt, then after getting the PTA, they cancel the flight. Albeit the airline may refund the money back to them, excluding some charges though.

Visa approved at Abuja embassy this morning.
Transcripts.
I have been blessed by the members of this forum and I thank everyone that have shared their Transcripts or have answered questions here. I have been a silent participant in the forum. In April 2021, I got admission with full funding to University of Wyoming to do M.A history.
Fast forward to June 29 when my i-20 arrived, tye available dates for interview were in 2022. I asked for emergency appointment but when it was not forthcoming, I engaged an agent to find dates with the reschedule appointment tool for me and I got August 20 appointment. My resumption nis august 18 on my i-20. It was on this forum that I learnt that I can get a revised i-20. In short my revised i-20 reached my email in the midnight of August 20.
Now I must print but my appointment is 7.30 am. I got to the Abuja embassy before 6am. Omo entrepreneurial NIgerians are already on ground! Printing was expensive but I was happy to pay. They also scammed me by saying that my DS 160 submission confirmation read Lagos instead of Abuja and so I must change it to Lagos otherwise they will send me back. I said no but being my first time , I ended up paying. The gate hustlers also condemned my passport photo graph. Anyway Sha I snapped another one. In all I was milked of 22k naira.
I joined the queue at 7.15am. I have read all transcripts here and I was prepared with responses. Someone also coached me the day before interview. I have with me two company certificates, landed property, marriage certificate and many rehearsed speeches on why I will return to Nigeria.
I entered the interview and it was then I knew that my Lagos information for DS 160 is to be transferred to Abuja and I must wait Another 1 hour. It was then I knew that gate hustlers don scam me. While I wait only two approvals were granted and about six denials. At that moment, like a person given life imprisonment sentence, I started imagining how beautiful life under NIgeria and Buhari can be if one accept your fate.
Then I was called to enter again for interview.
V.o good morning
Me: good morning ma'am.
V.o I can see you are going to the University of Wyoming
Me: that's correct.
V.o: what do you do here in Nigeria?
Me: I'm a teacher and I teach History. ( In the cubicle there was a male white guy standing near the white female interviewer observing the computer screen. The white guy nodded at my response). She typed.
V.o: said something I could not pick. And I told her that please come again. She Held up a slip on which 'thesis was written'.
Me: yes my masters is thesis masters.
V.o: no, I mean what is your proposed thesis topic?
Me: oh, I shall working on prostitution during the colonial period of Nigeria

V.o : oh colonial prostitution.
Me: yes, that's correct.
V.o what will you be using this degree to do.
Me: I shall be coming back to teach History at the University of Ibadan.
V.o: teach at University of Ibadan?
Me: yes, I've been promised a position there.( The white guy beside her nodded at this)
V.o: I shall be approving your visa....
Me: I became deaf.to other things she was saying but I picked transit and pick up. I was given a white paper and she bid me best of luck.
My interview was less than a minute. Please prayer works! I prayed. My pastor prayed. While at the interview my mum, my dad, my wife, my mother in law and an aunt, my children were praying for me. This is the first time in my life that things that is supposed to be difficult became absolutely easy!
Ebami yin oluwo logo oooooo!
