Lawyers are the one's you contact to help you win Land case, house rent matter, small family problem, phone and domestic animal theft.


Barristers are the one's you go to their air-conditioned office to help you fight for your political mandates, Libel, and slandering suits, Human rights abuse and Rich domestic violence.

They all refer to one thing- someone duly called to practice in a particular jurisdiction(country). However in certain countries, a lawyer may be a barrister or a solicitor. A barrister is licensed to appear before a court as an advocate for a party while a solicitor offers legal services but does not appear before a court. In nigeria both are fused, so a lawyer is both a barrister and a solictor.
However do note that merely graduating from the university doesn't make you a lawyer. To be a lawyer you must have graduated from the law school and have your name enrolled in the supreme court register(see Legal Practitioners act for more clarity)

Lol, this is very wrong.
A person who has graduated from the University after studying law but hasn't been called to the Bar is a Law graduate. No more, no less.

If that person went to the law school and didn't pass, he is still a law graduate. Until he passes the Bar 2 exams, gets called to the Bar and gets enrolled at the Supreme Court before he becomes a Lawyer/Barrister.

Someone already gave the difference between Barrister or Solicitor up there in this thread.
